Always been a sucker for a project car. Especially a C6 Z06! Was fortunate enough to come across this 2008 Z06 in need of some serious mechanical love. The LS7 has left the chat! Follow along as I bring it back to better than showroom condition! Should be a fun series!

Man these vids are aesthetically pleasing, informative, and fun to watch! No bs, no childish stuff, and no clickbait or rambling on about stuff that doesn’t have anything to do with the vid, just pure informative content. This man is awesome and I can’t wait to see this channel blow up cause he deserves it🙏🏽🔥

I like guys like you, You remind me of guys like me. I restored a 1969 Z28 with my best friend. He had been looking for a Z for months. One day while driving our way to Austin from Killeen he spotted the roof of a camaro next to what looked like a warehouse, which turned out to be a barn. We turned back to take a look and it was a 69 Z28, all original. It had been rolled in a drag race, the original motor was in the trunk. We made an offer he accepted, and we were off to the restoration. We had to replace the roof, hood and both rear fenders, all parts we were able to purchase off of car magazines at the time (1978). It took us 2 years of working on weekends and holidays. I taught myself how to weld and he did most of the mechanic work while I assisted. I haven't seen him in years (I moved away). I hear he still drives it daily, red with white stripes. Then we resorted my 1969 427/390hp Corvette. I sold it years later. Then we restored my brothers 1971 Challenger 340 with 202 heads, Plum Purple...what a blast. I'm old now, but those are some of my most cherrished memories.

Awesome project. Personally, I wouldnt do black wheels and black roof. My Z06 was V.yellow and I had factory competition grey wheels that looked great. Maybe a silver/grey paint? I think that would look clean and much better.

Subscribed Chris. You seem very level headed and knowledgeable and I look forward to your rebuild of one of the great performance cars, the C6 Z06. I am in the stock is best camp but I prefer originality...especially if the plan is to flip the car....consider that if changing the wheel finish or wrapping the roof. PS. No telling why the motor grenaded. Previous owner could have run it out of oil which is common if an eye isn't kept on it running high RPM at the track, could have missed a shift etc. Will be real curious to see the status of the heads...how you pull the motor out with the torque tube etc. Best of luck

As a detailer, my head started to spin about mach 1 when I saw the bottle of Dawn, and then I remembered "Oh yeah, there is a ton of oil residue to strip off the paint, cool" lol. And please, PLEASE no black wheels!!!!! IF you are set on changing them and are getting them refinished, have them done hyper black, or what used to be known as black chrome.

2015 Z28 Camaro Ls7 427, bought it with 5k miles, put maybe 10k on it and started hearing valve noise. Now I have 60k and noise is way passed a issue, now it's parked and waiting for me removed the heads. I also have a 2009 Zo6 with 50k, removed heads very sloppy worn intake guides. The car has been waiting for a head change as well. Really interesting how a 2015 Z28 has same issues, didn't GM fix the problem??? Nope, but otherwise the cars are awesome but do require replacing guides which is minimal if you catch it before you lose a valve. On my Z28 I really enjoyed driving it and took a chance nothing would happen but now the noise is too loud and I'm not willing to drive it until I fix the heads. Hopefully that's the only issue. Congrats on your buy, that's a great deal! Look forward to your build!

Z06 with some of the cheapest Sparcos. Makes no sense. They are not uncomfortable as everyone thinks. I have Sparco Grid Q in my Hellcat and they are light-years better than the factory lounge chairs. Also get brackets that allow a tilt and you will love it. The Sprint model is not what you want for sure. Maybe in a V6 Mustang or a Civic. Want to go all out get you some Tillet Carbon seats. Very nice

i was always under the impression it was the guides. american heritage worked on these a lot back in the day with katech. they had success with refurbishing the stock ti intake and a hollow ferrera exhaust with bronze guides or those really high end F1 style guides but who knows 100% it's an aggressive valve angle with a very long valve coupled in a high rpm engine. other guys tried stainless valves all around but that requires a lot more spring pressure and lowers the redline all else equal. i think inspections every 10k would be the way i would go. pull a retainer or two with compressed air in the cylinder and see if you have any wiggle present. really doesn't take that long to do random inspections. doing 2 cylinders every 10k would work through all 16 guides every 40k

The 427 is a 505hp very finely tuned engine. The tolerances are super close. It is designed and engineered for specific air flow all the way to 7000rpms. That is already fantastic! When you add high-performance parts to this engine, you change the math and stress levels of the engineering, and the components used to rev to 7000rpms. Cold-air intake? Not engineered for that. Headers? Not engineered for that. Titanium and stainless steel valves are light weight and strong, but require special valve guides. Brass valve guides and titanium valves are a bad match. Outside of 2006, when Chevrolet acknowledged they had a bunch of bad heads, from 2007-2013 that engine is fantastically dependable ***if*** you leave it stock. "Lean is mean' is also hot. Don't want to burn a hole in a piston, don't chip it. A 'tracked' 427 ZO6 almost certainly was modded. I have an LS3 2012 Grand Sport Centennial Edition convertible. Interesting channel as I am also building a 1969 Nova with an LS3 swap. I was more interested in your Camaro. LOL Peace

What? The dropped valve issue effects all LS7’s. Whether they are modded or not at some point. This is well known. Replacement valve guides are the fix. Katech has been fixing them for years with bronze guides. 0 failures after 50k miles. Heads/cams/nitrous/power added cars are perfectly fine within reason. Just have the heads addressed properly and you’re good to go.

I'm here from the future. The carnage was caused by a dropped exhaust valve. Complete disintigration of the piston was the result. Did the valve break off? It makes me wonder why he did not see the missing valve when he pulled the valve covers.
