Brother Gavin, my granddaughter, her husband, and my great granddaughter attend Immanuel in Nashville. I sent her the following text after watching the message. Lauren, I got a very special pleasant surprise this morning. I've been following Gavin Ortlund for several years. He has a new video posted on KZfaq. He has a new video posted on KZfaq. A sermon preached in September 2023 at Immanuel in Nashville... Gavin is amazing in his theology, he knows church history, he is an excellent communicator, he is passionate, he is humble an loving. If I lived within 50 miles of the church where he is the pastor that's where I would be going. This is a wonderful sermon that will make you feel great. Gavin, FYI, I'm 83 years old, I'm in my 23rd year of missionary work in the Czech Republic. Please pray for me that I will be faithful to God's call on my life... To love people and tell them the truth about Jesus....

This sermon made me tear up. Often I will feel like I’ve sinned myself into the status of a reprobate, or that Im damned like pharoah or that this sin cycle will never break and I’m doomed. But there is no need to despair, for jesus conquered the world, conquered death itself, overcame the worst of the worst when he was put to death.

Sigh, I really needed to hear that today. I've spent my whole life constantly doubting my salvation, my motives, if my heart is really in Christ, if I really trust Him for my safety and forgiveness and lately its been crippling. Painful days of anxiety and anguish, thank you for this encouraging message.

Gavin, I am close to having a prima scriptura view. I was once a catholic monk (not final vows). I realised that thomists view of predestination is just calvinism without saying the double predestination part out loud (God saves some yet let's other go to their sins) Anyway I still hold a very high mariology due to the early church seemingly high view there must be a reason. Can you give me some points on Sola fide in the church early?

Quis, the Catholic Church also has a prima Scriptura view, but not Scripture ALONE, as that is not found in Holy Scripture, as the manifold wisdom of God is revealed through the CHURCH! The same Church authority that existed way before the new testament was ever written! Plus, many early Church Fathers taught obedience to the commandments is necessary as well, for even if one has ALL FAITH, but does not LOVE, IT IS USELESS, for it is by WORKS and NOT BY FAITH ALONE that we are JUSTIFIED! Gavin Ortlund has admitted that Protestants can never know with infallible certitude what Jesus Christ meant by "this IS MY BODY ", or who the Woman is in Revelation 12, according to their view on Holy Scriptures! I agree with you regarding the Mother of God, even the blameless before God Elizabeth felt unworthy as the Mother of the Lord approached her! Peace always in Jesus Christ our Great and Kind God and Savior, He whose Flesh is true food and Blood true drink

@@matthewbroderick6287 To me, it seems as if the Catholic Church has a Prima Magisterium view, as the Bible only says what the Magisterium interprets it to say. If there is a conflict between the Bible and the Magisterium, the Magisterium wins.

You hear a lot of hedonists say with a twinkle in their eye, "I'd rather rule with Satan in hell than be a servant in heaven." Well, I'm not sure they know how it's gonna go. Satan is the prince of the power of the air and darkness right now. But, his dethroning is already written. He's going to be an inmate in the fiery pit right along with the rest of humanity who choose to reject Jesus.

So what Gavin is saying (in a round-a-bout sort of way): Satan has been stripped of his "battle standard" (i.e., "war flag") and is now fleeing the battlefield in his undies. What a coward. Let the bawking commence!
