Christian Eriksen: Denmark manager struggles to hold back tears during press conference

Denmark's manager Kasper Hjulmand understandably struggled to hold back his tears during the post-match press conference following Christian Eriksen collapsing on the pitch.
Inter Milan midfielder Christian Eriksen suddenly fell to the floor near the end of the first half during his side's clash with Finland at the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen. Eriksen - a former-Tottenham player - was given CPR by frantic medics who sprinted onto the pitch as his sobbing teammates formed a protective barrier around him. The player was then carried off the pitch in a stretcher while receiving oxygen shortly after 6pm - as medics held up white sheets to shield him from prying eyes. Pictures later showed Eriksen sitting up on the stretcher with his eyes open - as UEFA confirmed he 'has been stabilised' in hospital.

Simon Kjær who is the team captain, said afterwards that he did try to carry on, but had to ask to be subbed out because it was impossible for him to focus on the game.

I was proud when we won the Euro 1992, but this is almost even bigger.. Can't even express how proud I am of the team.. Go for gold!! For Eriksen! For Denmark.

Looking at this I feel like everyone should be trained in CPR, and think more should be done in schools on this subject as it does saves lives

In Sweden we all are trained as young adults in CPR and saving people from drowning.

I. Was thinking the same thing. They give courses in cpr with the defribiliator. Every team should have some players trained in it.

I absolutely agree 100% with this. I think every person should be trained and know how to do CPR in an emergency situation. Anybody could witness something like this happen anywhere and could save someone's life. I work as a volunteer in a BHF charity shop and fortunately was shown a video on how to perform CPR to learn what to do in an emergency situation. It should also be made a compulsory part of the curriculum in schools too. Everyone should learn CPR.

You can't go through school or get a drivers license in Denmark without being trained in this CPR and first aid in general.

He won’t ever again play professionally and if he does this is bound to happen in another 10 years time unfortunately football lost a great player that’s the reality

i am glad that being in a highly paid and famous profession, these people are rawly expressing their emotions and being human. I have worked in fields where sickness was looked down upon and seen as a weakness that should be dealt with on ones own, it was your fault to fall sick and give time to doctors appointments, i have seen bosses insult and humiliate the sick in front of the team and this man is really someone my former colleagues should learn from

at this point , who cares about a game , all that matters is life, family and friends, wishing a speed recovery to Eriksen. FIFA should look into this, not the first time this is happening, others had lost their life in the pitch.

I think the most respectful thing is to allow Danemark to do what they want, whether it is stopping or continuing the match. For the rest they don't have much of a choice , it's the league who decides.
