I bought the CLE learning to read program for my almost 8 year old son. We are only on 102-4 and I'm already seeing improvement and he seems to be gaining confidence. Its a little too easy for him but it seems to be helping. In the different reading programs we have tried, he seems to do well for a while and then kind of hit a wall so I'm interested to see how he does. It seems like his handwriting is improving too. I also decided to get Abekas Phonics and Language 2 to either use with my almost 9 year old daughter or my son. We have definitely struggled in the reading department so my kids are a little "behind" but I know we will figure it out and get caught up. Thanks for all the videos you do, they have been SO helpful for me and my kids on this homeschool journey.

Yes. No worries or pressure. As long as they get a great foundation they can do anything in life. I feel like there shouldn’t be rushing through the first grade years. Because if they don’t get the concept, and they get pushed along it can cause soo much troubles later on. Take your time. See how it goes, and you can decide what’s best down the road. Our girl’s are a bit behind but it’s ok because they are getting a great education and this is not a sprint. We have until they are 18 to figure out what works best for them, and what direction they will go. As long as they are good in math, spelling, writing, reading, etc they can do anything.

Thank you, thank you. I just wish it was in color... We love abeka and bob jones math as we do both. Your advice not to push reading is really helpful. The two curriculums we enjoy there reading programs seem very overwhelming in what manuals, guides you need.

Yeah we haven’t done things traditionally. We ended up having to change Abeka up in K to work for us and we aren’t done her technical grade 1. For me I feel like I don’t want to rush this part of her schooling because it’s her foundation. Technically in my state we just need to be learning. So I want to make sure my daughter is a strong reader and not overwhelm ourselves with a bunch of fluff. Like grade 1 I don’t care so much about science or history textbooks. We can watch videos or do other things to learn that. I care more about them learning to write well, read well, do their math, and learn about God. I might do a video showing what we have been doing lately. Keep in mind that we are behind where I’d like to be but I remind myself that this isn’t a thing to rush. We also understand that all curriculums are different so it’s hard to compare all kids in grade 1 because they might be learning differently based on where they are receiving their education. Some curriculums are teaching different things at different times than others and in different styles.

I have heard from quite a few very well known Educators.. not to rush the "Learning to Read process". I've also had a handful of very well seasoned homeschool mums say the same.

What if your child knows all the sounds of each letter do they start with learning to read?

I would guess that you go through it quickly and not spend much time on it. But I’m not an expert.

@@lifewithashleynoah9893 I'm sorry. I'm considering CLE for first grade reading/phonics/language arts. My 5 year old is doing CLE K 2 and Get Ready for the Code this year ( I might do Memoria Press if he finishes before the year is done). I'm now researching what to use in 1st grade for Language Arts/Reading/Phonics. Like I said, I'm leaning towards CLE, but am researching Abeka, BJU, and maybe Memoria Press.

@@user-yb8oy2ez2r ok. I have some other videos with Abeka in the title. And I’m there I talk about different things that we found helpful. I do like the Abeka flash cards. I’m not huge on telling people to buy the extra stuff but they come in handy. And the blend ladder handbook and handbook for reading. I personally like Cle and Abeka for this but I can’t speak for bju for that grade. Check out my other videos with Cle and Abeka in the title. I did some flip throughs too.

@@user-yb8oy2ez2r I will say. I don’t like Abeka lesson plans. Not into it. I like Cle better with the teachers guides but I think we have found a way that we tweak Abeka to a way we like ourselves and we vary off a bit but use the tools they offer.

@@lifewithashleynoah9893 Thank you. I really do think I'm going to stick with CLE and Explode the Code. I want to look into Abeka Science thought. Masterbooks is always my top pick for science, but I like the way the Abeka text looks. Do you think it's possible to do Abeka Science 6 or 7 without the videos? My oldest ones are use to just having a text, reading, then answering the questions.
