When you showed the completed bag at the start, I thought "wait a mineute, Christine doesn's like binding". And then you had a genius method for binding the pockets. Thanks for sharing.

This bag came out great. Easy Peasy 😁. Last year I sewed a similar bag, custom size to fit an antique Singer 24 in a bentwood case inside, so I could take it as a carry-on on my flight home from Amsterdam to Raleigh, NC. The bag also has a waterproofed canvas bottom because I didn't want the fabric to get all nasty while setting it down during travel. I sewed the bag on my vintage Singer 221 Featherweight machine. I've found that as long as we use metal machines, they can handle just about anything we throw at them.
@ChristinesHomeAffairs

Totally agree Heike. The old vintage machines are far better than the newer lightweight machines being made now😁

Christine, your timing is perfect in that I am 3-1/2 weeks post open heart surgery🫣 and in August I will be starting cardiac rehabilitation and I think this will be great! I will go a little smaller for a cardio bag to drag back n forth and then I think I will challenge myself to go to the size you show which will force me to stop overpacking!!! Today, July 13th is the first day I feel like I’ve not been kicked to the curb or ran over by a bus and I’m sharing it with you. Thank you Elly from Wisconsin, USA

Mud map? That is a new term! I will have to have a look at the entomology of that phrase! xoxo
@ChristinesHomeAffairs
@ChristinesHomeAffairs 16 күн бұрын
Haha, i just had to look it up. I had no idea it was an Australianism. 😄 Mud map is an Australian term for an informal map, intended to assist, but with no pretentions to accuracy or completeness. The term originates in such a map drawn in mud or dust with a stick, perhaps in response to a query by a stranger.

Christine, have you ever upcycled burlap coffee bags? The material can also be called hessian or jute. I am thinking of making a messenger bag. But I am hung up on what to use for the straps. I live in the USA and at first considered buying leather straps, but the price seemed steep. I then considered cutting up a leather coat that I don't wear. Right now, I plan to try to use mill felt - felt that was used in a paper plant that an older gentleman really wants me to upcycle and I now have 200 pounds of! If you have read this far, thank you! Do you, or anyone else have any thoughts? I love, love, love your videos and I am deeply thankful for you.

Hey Christine, I'm wary of putting my card details loose onto the Web, but would like to "buy you coffee". Any chance of you adding PayPal as an option??

That's a good point Cathy, and something I hadn't considered. I've now added the Paypal option to the video. Thanks so much for the thought😊

Wow, what a huge project & lovely fabric. Great tute and how you trouble shoot as problems pop up. Very interesting how you design with paper first. Thanks for sharing

Thanks Dorothy. I love playing with paper to create my projects. It gives me an idea of how they will look😁
