I’m glad he came around to it! My kids are super in to it so re watching as an adult shows you how great a man and dad he is portrayed as. The man was a war hero but hated war and conflict in the movie, he loved his kids and missed their mother, he dressed well, he could sing, he could dance and he went for true love over the expected love. he wasn’t afraid to fight what was wrong and show his kids why the Nazis shouldn’t be followed (he didn’t quietly talk about it and keep it from his kids). And he got his family out of there, leaving behind a naval command, their home and riches to escape evil. I would say his character is the epitome of a man and a dad!

That was amazing. Have you seen him.as the villain in The Fall of the Roman Empire. Not the greatest sword-and-sandal film ever made, only poor performance I've ever seen from Stephen Boyd, but Plummer and James Mason make it still worth a watch. Get your facts! And don’t spread negativity! He never said he hates the movie! When asked if he hated the movie he said he didn’t hate the movie, that it’s cruel to say that as it gives so many people pleasure! He didn’t resent the movie’s popularity, he was grateful for it . He did find his role lacking character, but he worked hard to change that. He was an award winning Shakespearean actor and wanted to be recognized for more complex roles. But that doesn’t mean he hated the movie! He thought it was wonderful of its kind! And in later times even came to be proud of being a part of it .

It is indeed over sentimental. But that’s sort of the purpose
@joeydoherty36811 ай бұрын
It’s good to sometimes have realistic movies, but most movies are sentimental and dramatic, hence why they’re movies! His character likely lacked development due to him not being the main character and the fact that it was a musical.
@MaryRosebud Жыл бұрын
Of course, I was a teenager, about 15, and inclined to appreciate the romantic aspects of this movie as well as the dramatic, but all in all it was an excellent film. Not in the least resembling the life of Maria Von Trapp, but had the producers gone that route, the movie would have fallen flat.

How sad. It sounds like he died with a bitter heart. How could anyone say anything derogatory about The Sound of Music!! If he only knew how valuable his performance was and his part was in the whole thing and how valuable the entire production was to people like myself who look back on it with fond memories, and allows me to think back on a better time when people were generous and loved their neighbors. A time when families felt it was important to stay close, and not only to each other but to the Lord. Sounds like Christopher Plummer who I had adored since childhood from that movie I didn't follow him or anything after that but just remembering him in that movie and every time I heard His Name a smile and a warm countenance would come upon my face because it would remind me of the sound of music and how much joy brought to my life and still does this day in fact that's why I'm here right now. It's pouring cats and dogs outside and the day is dark the sun hasn't even shown its face yet its 9:30 in the morning Eastern standard time, and the songs from The Sound of Music, came to my mind. So I wanted to see if there was a soundtrack I could put on at least. 🙏

According to my film buff sister, Christopher Plummer simply wasn't very comfortable as a non-musical actor in a musical film. It wasn't his usual kind of movie. But it was very important for the role of Captain von Trapp that he be played by a non-musical actor, and I'm sure Plummer appreciated that. Just because something isn't your thing doesn't mean you can't respect it - and he clearly did; he gave a fabulous performance!

@oliviarogers2808 Жыл бұрын
she was in the movie, and came on Julie Andrews show after it came out praising her performance.
@marjorieong21129 ай бұрын
Hmm the real Maria loved that Christopher Plummer was playing her husband because he was ' more handsome' than her husband. It was the daughter who didn't like her father, Captain Von Trapp portrayed as not a loving father. Christopher Plummer was in his early 30s during that time and didn't want to be seen as a sissy father, so he helped the script writer rewrite his role to make the whole movie sounded less sickly, his character more meaningful than the Broadway version. But he admired Julie Andrews and wanted to work with her. Thus the chemistry in the movie and the success. The children were all marvellous because Julie Andrew worked hard at getting to know them and relatable to them. A wonderful story of love and grit, especially the real life story of Georg Von Trapp.
@sambascom28846 ай бұрын
Not to mention how it diverged from the true story in numerous ways. Maria came to be a tutor for his daughter Maria who had scarlet fever in 1926. The captain was engaged to Princess Yvonne but broke it off and he married Maria in November 1927. They lost a lot of their money in 1935 and took in borders to make money. Father Wasner recognized their talent and said they should sing. When the Nazis rose to power they felt stressed. They decided to leave and they had a tour booked. They left by train to Italy during the day. I wish they could make a more accurate movie and keep some of the musical numbers.
