Christy uses the Ventrac with the power rake attachment to move and level dirt that was displaced when the geothermal heating system was dug. Tractor Time with Tim uses the John Deere 1025R with 4-in-1 bucket to help repair the lawn.

We put our geothermal system in last year and couldn't be happier. I was given the task of digging about 800' of trench (3x 200' + a 200' feeder) 5' deep with a Yanmar 55 mini. because of my vast experience with an excavator. (About 40 minutes total time prior) Our ground is sandy clay, but the water table is about 30' and I dug the trenches in July At the same time we also installed a whole house solar system. Heating and electric used to be about $4500 a year w/o AC now it is about $400with AC. Tax credits negated all income tax for 2019 and left some carryover for 2020. We are 70ish so we may not recoup all of the cost.

@@TractorTimewithTim , thanks for getting back to me on that Tim. I like the Ventrac and think that it is a very interesting machine. It certainly cost a lot. It seems to be priced more for the commercial landscaper instead on the homeowner or landowner. How is the machine for mowing compared to a zero turn and what do you like AND dislike about the Ventrac. I know that it handles a bank twice as steep as a zero turn and does well over wet terrain but how about relatively flat yards with considerable obstacles such as tress? Also who is the target buyer for this (i.e. golf courses, landscapers, large landowners)? Thanks, I am a big fan of the show!
@TractorTimewithTim
@TractorTimewithTim 5 жыл бұрын
I’m probably not the best guy to be answering all of those questions. I do not have experience with a zero turn in real world mowing. The Ventrac rides quite smoothly. That is one unexpected plus. Overall, we really like it.

Sorry to hear about all your issues and overruns with the geothermal system. But once you get everything ironed out your going to love it. We had issues with ours in the beginning trying to run it like a regular gas furnace by lowering the temp in the house when we were gone and then bumping it up when we got home. Thats a no no and a sure way to kick on your supplemental heat because the system is trying to bump the temp up quickly. It took talking to our hvac guy to tell us that you just need to leave it at a steady temperature to make it the most efficient in the way it operates. I hope they finally got everything straightened out so you can start to enjoy your new home. GOD Bless and have a great day Tim and Christy and keep up making great videos

Hi tim and Christie! I have zero experience on a ventrac. But I have a power rake (Harley rake) for both the 3pt hitch and a skid loader... they are awesome tools, if u ever come to western pa your more then welcome to come try both out! So here in south Florida a company by the name of Bruno heating & air conditioning, were called to peoples homes to see how their systems were running. People would sign a paper that they had shown up. When really Bruno used their signature on them getting credit through some high percent outfit for a new unit whether they need it or not. One guy that was on the local news would have to pay $50,000. on his bill. There were more people going through same deal. Glad for you two getting it all fixed

If it makes you feel any better Tim, it cost us ~$40K to fix our heating issues in our newly purchased house a couple of years ago. $20K for various energy improvements and another $20K to upgrade the hydronic system add a mini-split heat pump on a house built in 2005. I'm so glad that your heating problems are behind you so that you can focus on tractors!

I use my Ventracs for our family business and every customer says how they can't believe how smooth and polished the grading looks! This is my next purchase... that power rake does wonders. I saw you haven't used the stump grinder yet... Be aware. The mirror mount on the stump grinder can get in the way of other attachments as you raise them. Specifically the tiller! I trashed mine pretty good and the dealer and company were great with the replacement parts, but the solution is to remove the bracket every time. Not a fan of this idea, but it's not exactly hard to take off either. I don't know what other attachments interfere, but the power rake looks like it could be one of them. Interested to see if you have the same issues and what kind of solution you come up with. Yard looks great! Have a good one!

On demand water heater, initial cost more than a standard water heater, long term saves on operating cost = win. Christy + Ventrac and that power rake = Win Win. New house = new challenges and unknowns. Until 2016 we had oil heat in Alaska, here in SC we have electric heat pump, not real crazy about it. Wish the auxiliary heat was oil or gas. Never gets cold enough here long enough for a wood stove or I’d install one. A wood stove in your shop would be nice, maybe in a section walled off and insulated. Yard looks good.

Looks like you learned pretty quick Christy. I'm sure sorry you had all that trouble with the geothermal system. I guess the installers didn't take any responsibility for the bad settings that caused the secondary electric heaters to come on constantly. But all that is behind you now, next winter will be warm, toasty and affordable. Two things: You do know not to let the heat drop at night and bring it back up during the day when you are awake with geothermal right? Geothermal, like radiant floor heat, has a slow recovery rate. And if you are going to use it for A/C, I hope they insulated the ductwork.

I really hate to hear about the geothermal unit. I have had them installed in just about every home I have built for the last ten years and they work great. I think your installers had a hand in the issues! We just completed a 2,500 sq’ home the total cost of the install was 25,000 for everything including a vertical bore, which is more efficient than horizontal. Plus they still get the 7,000.00 tax credit. It was also the mid grade geothermal unit the estimated heat and cooling cost is 40.00 per month. They are really accurate with there estimated cost per month. We are located not to far from you in southern Illinois. I highly recommend geothermal. Tell your daughter she can really play that piano!

The hole point of Geothermal is your pulling heat from the ground (obviously). Something is wrong with the system if the backup heat is still coming on. If you had an air source heat pump, yes you might want something for backup. But most of them are VRF systems now and can handle down to -10F. The only real reason to have backup heat with a Geothermal system is just in case the compressor or pumps have an issue. So if the backup heat is still coming on something is wrong with the system, or it's under sizes.
