This year is our first year going 1:1 with chromebooks. Everything you talked about, that caused you frustration throughout the year, are the same concerns that I have. Thank you for sharing your tips and how to help avoid these situations.

Oh thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! I have been implementing 1:1 Chromebooks in my 6th grade and do I have things I want to change for this year! I loved hearing your experience (similar in many ways 😉). I am definitely interested if you want to make more videos about this. Happy BTS!

These are great tips! We have 1:1 iPads so similar issues. Do you mind if I use your rules but put them into iPad friendly graphics?

Thank you for sharing this. We went 1:1 last year and I have already been thinking about these same rules (some of which I started using last year out of sheer desperation). You mentioned a thing you use called School Branch which allows you to see the screens of your students? We did not have that luxury last year. Is this a Google product? Thank you for all that you share on this channel!

We are 1:1 in ELA classes. I have a class set of 32 and kids don't get to take them home. Our WIFI is also super controlled. They have K-3 permissions and I teach 7/8. All video streaming apps and social media are blocked. It's super convenient.

Thank you for this! We piloted chromebooks last year in our 8th grade and you just took all the words in my brain and put it in a nice video. All of the things I found myself repeating have now become my expectations too :)

Thank you for this video!! I am a first-year teacher, starting in August and my number one goal is having clear, communicable procedures. I plan to use this exact set of rules for my 7th grade English class, because they make great sense! Not sure if you keep up with comments from older videos, but I was trying to find the info from one of your videos on having a classroom "tech support" student who helps students with technical issues... I would love more info on this if you can! How do you select these students? I was thinking about putting together a quiz or something for them to take as an application of sorts. Hope to hear back! Love your content! :)

I taught in a school with 1:1 devices from Year 5 up. My Year 5's were having their first experience, so when I came in, in the middle of the year I set some much firmer boundaries. Our iPads didn't go home at Year 5, so my rules were: iPads stay in the cabinet until you need them (it was locked, they had to ask for the key) iPads must be on the desk when in use If you do something other than what was directed it will be confiscated for a period of time You must plug your iPad in when you put it away - if it goes flat because you didn't do that, that's your problem As a parent, we have rules for our son that weren't necessary for our girls. All his devices come out of his room at night. Until he got to VCE (Yr 11 & 12) he had to use a computer out in the family area of the house. And I have the right to check in with anything I want until he turns 18...yep, no right to privacy when they're using my internet and I am legally responsible for how it gets used. Technology are definitely a privilege and not a right!!!!

I thought there were admins for that! Where the chromebooks could be setup so the kids can't play games. And they could only the authorized websites so to speak? That said I do like your rules!

I love these procedures! :) BUT, i feel like once i become a teacher I wouldn’t personally let kids use ANY technology in my class unless it was required of me. I’d rather stand at the copier forever and a day that deal with that nonsense you mentioned xD plus my home printer is amazing and i want to actually get use out of all of its functions (including copying :3). That said, i think you’re doing an awesome job in my humble childless, not yet a teacher, college student (history teaching major, brownie points? Lol) opinion xD

I agree devices shouldn't be used during break time. Kids get so much screen time- at home and now at school. They should be able to function and socialize with their peers during break time. They need a break from the computer.

Are you seriously telling me most TEACHERS and PARENTS who can operate SMARTPHONES, can't figure out how to log in to there kid's laptop and monitor what they do? are we really at that point in life where we can't do SIMPLE stuff anymore?
