I always thought people were joking when they wondered why Link would ever try to find Navi. the player hates her, but obviously Link doesn't.

I'm pretty sure he wanted to find Navi because she's Link's friend...that's it...a friendship that was built through an epic quest, not a sentimental mark of status.

I totally agree with Emile as to why Link would go looking for Navi, but I always expanded upon it in my head. In Ocarina, Link travels between time and has an experience that no one else can understand- not even Zelda- once he returns to his own timeline. He has all these memories that only Navi experienced with him. I'd go looking for the only other person who knows about my time-travel, too.

That totally makes sense. Link was all alone before Navi showed up. Thanks to her, Link was able to on that epic adventure that was considered the greatest Zelda of all time by a lot of fans, except the likes of MatPat and Brentalfloss.

I neither like or disliked navi but I thought she wasn't al that useful outside of locking on to enemies or dimly illuminating a room. At least shes better then fi as shes only good for telling you when the batteries were running low, I read that people cried at the end of skyward sword but personally I think that you can't get rid of her quick enough after she wasn't useful to you anymore.

I always sort liked Navi too. I actually sad to see her leave at the end of OoT. To me, I always just thought of the Hey Listen thing as an iconic and memorable Sound Clip that just became an meme for long time Zelda fans. I agree with Emile whole-heartedly, mostly because of my constant bullying in school which helps put me in Link's shoes when he was the Kokori laughing stock. Not to mention, I have seen a lot of people play Oot and I have played short snippets here and there, and I have never had Navi interupt me like people said I would. Her sound clips never nagged me, and the only time I ever remeber her inturpt gameplay was during times during the Great Deku Tree and then in the Forest Temple at the infamous "Wall Master hallway of 'wonder'." Fi on the other hand, is the one who I believe is more "interupting". She states the obvious much more than Navi (It was a joke of the developers as stated in the Hyrule Historia) and nags you about battery power when I can easily fit in another Play session before I run out, and even if I do, I can just use my brother's wii remote. Back on Navi, think about all the things in game you couldn't do without her: Auto-Targeting, learn about your quest, Enemy and Character Bios (Without her, Zelda Wiki would have no idea how to make detailed articles!), subtle tips to solve puzzles, let alone LEAVE the Kokori Forest! Also, Navi shows her true strides of bravery and loyalty at the end of the game. Ganondorf's dark power scared her off at the start, but then she comes back to you! She could of easily escaped the burning and collapsing tower alone, but she came back to you. In the Final battle with Ganon, she flew through fire and flames to help you. Navi knew Ganon was scarier and more intimidating then ever, but she stood by your side, as you two bravely finished off Ganon. (The final battle would of been h*ll other wise with no tageting) She shows the true traits of aa worthy side kick, and that is why I like Navi.

The thing that I have to keep reminding myself with Navi is that she's also the only one who's there for him the WHOLE journey. Someone to talk to, console him, guide him, and generally keep him going on this grand adventure. Not only was she the start of everything, she was the guiding force (besides destiny and possibly zelda) for him. And it's easy to forget that when she gets a bit annoying in the game.

Well chuggaconroy, i believe we are on the same page. I always found Navi to be a little annoying but only in the way that your best friend is annoying to you. Navi played a huge part in Ocarina of Time and when I got Majoras Mask I was a little upset Navi was missing. Now I understand why Link would go through all of this to find his partner. If I was a Kokiri (which is obviously impossible) I would probably feel the same way about losing my best friend.

Navi always reminded me of my little childhood dog, Trixie. She was small and had the most annoying little bark, but she followed me everywhere and was always there to be cute and cheer me up. I would definitely go through all that trouble to find her if she was missing. Navi was Link's best friend :)

Navi was present in Majora's Mask, just not in any form you'd recognize. Remember the rocky outcropping by the entrance to Great Bay in Termina Field? Well, slightly south of there, there's a rock formation on the wall. But it's not just a random rock formation, it's actually the constellation Cassiopeia, just mirrored. This may not seem like it has anything to do with OoT at all, but if you do a little research you'll find out that one of the stars in this constellation his a lesser known nickname. What is that nickname, you ask? It's... Navi. Yup. She was there all along. And we just couldn't tell.

I know this was years ago, but at this point I have the manga versions of Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. I love Navi. And it's because of this game, oddly enough. When I was a kid, I knew the name. I knew she was a fairy. I didn't know what she looked like though. And then I saw the opening of Majora's Mask, and I saw Tael. I loved Tael's color. I found white a very boring color, so I was happy to see a fairy of a different color. For some reason, I thought he was Navi. That's where it started. I would use the name in almost every game I played since. Even after seeing the real Navi, I love her.

Plus, it was possible to make Navi useful but in order to do so Navi needs to be autonomously triggered to get the help you need. This is mostly useful when you fight a new monster for the first time but probably the reason why most people see her as a gnat is because they expect to pull something out of their ass when they try and fight someone. Zelda is supposed to be a game full of those, A-Ha moments. And Navi is in the game to help when you over think the problems and need a hint.

Not only was Navi an inspiration to Link, she also offered truly helpful targeting assistance. Also, she was the only other person who was with Link the entire time on his adventure. I still have my Official Perfect Guide for this game from Versus Books. It is so much better than the Prima guide in my opinion, and I really like the way it's written. Whoever wrote it had a sense of humor. One of my favorite bits is where he acknowledges how many times he tells you to "light the brazier" and how patronizing it sounds.

I fully agree with chuggaa. I vaguely understood navi hate, but to me she was just full of helpful information and enemy descriptions, which I love. And whenI found out about this games opening,it made me sad. And Chuggaa's description really plucked at my heartstrings. And bambi didn't pluck at my heartstrings. Also, considering that to hylians and terminians, the day is as long as ours, navi and tatl actually spoke very little, and only when you seemed lost or in need of help.

Hey buddy. I don't think the owl is that bad. And at least Navi isn't a bitch like Midna or a jerkass like Tatl (in the beginning) or Captain Obvious like Fi.

2:40 Argeed! That's why I liked the Lanayru Mining Facility in Skyward Sword; especially the one room where it looks like there's a neon sign on the wall. Heck, I loved the whole Timeshift Stone mechanic as a whole; the Lanayru Desert was bar none my favorite Overworld area of Skyward Sword (even though the other 2 areas tie for a *very* close second)!

I agree with Navi being a great character. Yes its fun to have jokes about the "hey" and the "listen" but overall Navi really helped Link in his adventures in Ocarina of Time and like Chugga said, when he got her he finally fit in with the Kokiri. So by all means Navi is amazing and in my opinion one of the best companions in the Zelda series.

I like how while your talking about Link's desire to find Navi and how he had always wanted a fairy you have 2 kidnapped fairy's in you jars. Maybe Links insecurities got the best of him and now he is hoping to have every fairy

Emile, you're not the only person who likes Navi. I never really thought that she was this "annoying, waste of a character" like 90% of people do. Just like you said, she gave Link the confidence to stand up to Mido and speak to the Great Deku Tree, Link was no longer a subject of ridicule in the Kokiri Forest, and she basically sent him on this long, treacherous journey to save Hyrule. She was a very good motivator for Link. If anything, Fi is *WAY* more annoying because she always points out the most obvious things.

Nice job playing devil's advocate, Chugga. Not even being sarcastic, you really put it into perspective. To be honest, I never really hated Navi, but she did get on my nerves from time to time with her repetitive sound bytes and random chiming in about your objectives. But if that's really how Link felt about her, then she really must be an invaluable partner to him. Really makes you question if the fandom's hatred of her is all that justified...

OMG, I had the players guide for Majora's Mask too. But unlike other people, I wasn't dumb enough to just play the song of time without questioning the guide and just manually went back to the start of the dungeon. I'm glad I didn't or I would've raged so hard.

Navi felt that due to Link's fulfilling his destiny, she could no longer be with him since she had fulfilled her purpose as well. Navi was sad that Link wouldn't need her anymore and left. Ironically, Link searching for the missing Navi was what led him to his next heroic adventure.

Wow, I never knew the Prima guide had such a huge error. XD I've seen their handiwork before though, like the Phantasy Star Online guide which has separate strategies for each class for the bosses and basically every strategy for mages is 'use support magic on your friends while they kill it.' XD

I'm pleasantly surprised to see so many positive comments about Navi here. Sure, the advice she gave wasn't always that helpful, and she said a lot of the same things over and over again. But her heart was always in the right place, and was undoubtedly Link's truest companion throughout OoT. She might not be my favorite Zelda sidekick character (that would be Midna), but I don't think she deserves the hate she gets either.

Considering I went as far as to make Navi's "hey listen" my notification ringtone on my phone, I didn't think she was annoying at all. In fact, she's one of my favorite characters in the zelda universe, and definitely my favorite companion Link's had so far.

I agree. Navi may be overzealous with information but she's such and awesome companion to have since Link would be alone otherwise. Plus, she helps with aiming at an enemy, flies over to someplace important that you should take note of and lets you talk from a distance. (That Z targeting wouldn't be possible without her)
