Titles read: "PATHE GAZETTE SPECIAL - CHURCHILL IN USA - FIRST PICTURES".
Washington DC, United States of America.
Various shots of Prime Minister Winston Churchill sitting and talking with US President Franklin D Roosevelt in the Cabinet Room of the White House on the eve of Churchill's speech to Congress. Roosevelt's special advisor Harry Hopkins and the President's personal and naval assistants stand behind them.
General view establishing shot of The Capitol. Several shots of Churchill's arrival at The Capitol.
Various shots with natural sound of Churchill addressing the Senate. He talks of the honour of being invited to speak at the House of Representatives and mentions his family link with America, saying if his mother had been British and his father American instead of the other way round, he might have got there on his own (laughs and applause).
He goes on to talk of how Britain can offer America the proof that with proper weapons and proper organisation we are able to beat the life out of the savage Nazis. He says "Twice in our lifetime has the arm of fate reached out across the ocean to bring the United States to the forefront of the battle". He goes on to says that if we had got together after the last war this renewal of the curse need never have fallen upon us. He ends by saying "... in the days to come, the British and American people will for their own safety and for the good of all, walk together in majesty, in justice, and in peace".
The Senate stands and applauds Churchill.
Note: file contains transcript of Churchill's speech showing that quite a lot of it was cut.

@@Nediac800 it's a French mitrailleuse developed and used in between 1862 and 1870 it was experimental and no been mass produced. It was later used in the Franco-prussian war but it was not used effectively. New York has one of the possessions and later used by Churchill's Grandfather in the post office.
