I can explain the plot of Can't Stop the Music. It's the same plot as The Muppet Movie: A bunch of lovable misfits form a friendship based on shared dreams of fame and fortune, go on a journey to realize that dream, and overcome several obstacles before succeeding beyond their wildest dreams. The difference is that The Muppet Movie was good.

And also the simple fact that there was a road trip needed to realize said dream in “The Muppet Movie,” and in “Can’t Stop the Music,” there’s nothing really needed to do to realize it aside from stalling for comedy.

But as Brad Jones pointed out, the movie never bothers with how becoming a singing group or becoming famous effects any of them. They're a product and the movie only cares about the people getting rich off them. Kind of like the Will Smith movie King Richard.

Being released on exactly the same day as "The Blues Brothers" (June 20, 1980) was not the wisest move for "Can't Stop the Music", among other things. Granted, "Blues Brothers 2000" received mixed reviews and underperformed commercially upon release in 1998, and Sean should definitely cover that film.

Disco was nothing but a fad. An oudated product of the seventies. Disco Demolition Night on July 12, 1979 was considered to be the day Disco died. In fact, the 1980 film Airplane, even made fun of Disco with one scene where the airplane flew into the radio antenna of WZAZ. WZAZ has the claim, "disco lives forever". Around the turn of the decade, disco was out and rock was back in. And to top it all off, Baskin Robbins had a promotional tie-in with Can't Stop The Music with a flavor of the month called "Can't Stop The Nuts". Yep, you've read it right.

People always get this concept wrong about when things actually occurred in time but disco was still really big in 1980. A lot of the whole flower power 1960's stuff happened after 1970 but that's another thing that people get wrong. Of course there was backlash against disco but that started happening as soon as disco started happening.

Great video Sean. "Can't Stop the Music" is deserving of the Razzie for Worst Picture, but there is another movie that was infinitely worse that I am surprised was overlooked by the Golden Raspberry Award Foundation. I am talking about the 1980 musical "The Apple". Produced by Cannon Films and directed by the late Menahem Golan, it makes "Can't Stop the Music" and "Xanadu" look Oscar worthy by comparison. It was the motion picture debut of Catherine Mary Stewart who is best known as Maggie from "The Last Starfighter".

Easy! He described himself as Sean "Smeghead" Moore in his closing credits. "Smeghead" is the derogatory term uttered by Dave Lister(played by Craig Charles) as a put-down to the smarmy, unctuous Arnold Rimmer(played by Chris Barrie). Rimmer also cops it from The "Cat"(played by Danny John-Jules) though not so much from Kryten(played by Robert Llewellen). Check the series out. I guarantee it will have you rolling on the floor with laughter.

wow, i gotta watch this movie. ha. from the clips you showed. One has to be really high to get this movie. Those slow moments you mention, could be mini movies embedded to one.

I assume that they put Neil diamond in blackface for The jazz Singer because the original movie also had blackface. It was a bad call both times but wasn't considered all that outrageous in the original.

“That’d be like if they made a film about nickelback in the year...nah, That probably would’ve failed any year.” Okay, I’ll admit. I like nickelback (they aren’t perfect, i mean “Dark Horse” and “No Fixed Address” are disgusting as hell and boring as hell respectively, but at least give “The State” and “Feed The Machine” a chance.), but even I have to agree that it will fail.

Yeah, much as I like the band, I don't think a movie about them would turn out well. I think it's best they left a song on a movie's soundtrack than be in a feature film.

Amane Suou well they did. Burn It To The Ground for Transformers ROTF, Savin Me for The Condemned, Breathe for Clockstoppers, Slow Motion for Punisher, and if you want to get technical, Hero for Spider-Man even though that was just Chad Kroeger.

Thanks to Wikipedia, I can tell "Mommie Dearest" is next! Plus, I know what to look forward to in the next 25 episodes or so! I hope that you'll review a lot of the stinkers some people haven't had the guts to review (and I think you've either overlooked or put off for too long) like "Leonard: Part 6", "Gigli", "Showgirls", "Movie 43", and "Howard the Duck"!

Apparently only Victor Willis/Ray Simpson (and the Soldier as well as Glenn "the Leatherman" Hughes) were straight (feel free to correct me otherwise) There were 3 actual gays in the line-up...the Construction guy and, ironically, the Cowboy and the Native American. Talk about awkward.

Hey Sean, I really applaud you on this project, but just a heads up expect hurdles ahead. For one thing the 1982 worst picture winner Inchon has never been released on home video and that includes VHS and Betamax, It sometimes appears on torrents or in chunks on youtube, but those are usually claimed by MGM out of what I assume is embarrassment and shame, because it sure as hell isn't about lost revenue as they won't release the damn movie.

I did manage to find a full version of the movie on KZfaq. He could use this if it stays up by the time he finishes the 1981 worst picture winner, but he will have to deal with the 240p quality and the Bandicam logo at the top. Link: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e9egprObsbreh6M.html

I don't know. Considering that the video was uploaded on June 29th of last year, maybe the bots have been slacking on their job. That isn't a bad thing, though.

Can't argue with you on that one. I've been trying to get SOMEONE to review that movie for what seems like ages, my go to was originally Cinema Snob as he does what he calls "what the fuck!" Hollywood movies, but it'll be nice just to have someone review it finally.
