Aww man. Yeah, a lot of the commentary is technically correct, and a lot of your zingers are good, but... this movie is low-brow, dumb humor, and it is exactly what it set out to be. That doesn't excuse any of its problems, but it does explain or obviate most of them. "Watch it on its own terms" doesn't work for a lot of things, but for something like this with no message or agenda, it seems like it deserves a little more leeway. I see a lot of other commenters here with the same "I grew up with this" experience, so that's likely part of it. Still, this seems excessive.

Pixar, please dont go down this path of making only sequels and stuff related to existing properties instad of making cool personal original movies. That being said if you make an Inside Out 3, i will gladly see it in theaters cause this movie was so good and i felt so seen and every time i thought they were gonna do something to really bad and obvious that would undercut the mental health stuff, they didn't. Making anxiety not evil but just genuinely trying to help Riley and the anxiety attack scene was perfect. You have my blessing to keep making more stories in this world (especially if Riley comes out 😂)

I am glad to see people are going to the cinema to see both Bad Boys 4 [nearly $300 million in two weeks] and Inside Out 2 [already the highest grossing film so far this year passing Dune part 2] given May was a bit of a negative month for cinema [with only Plant of the Apes doing good numbers and even then it's the lowest grossing of the 'reboot' series] and I want to see the theatrical experience survive. Even 'Dune part 2' director Denis Villeneuve seemed bothered his film was still No.1 coming into June.

The original Inside Out was a very obvious ripoff of Herman's Head, and the sequel seems to expand on the ripoff. And I liked Herman's Head a lot. I never saw the first film, and, truthfully, I have no real desire to see the second.

I don’t think Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling are big stars. Besides, Disney and Pixar are generally very good at casting actors that fit the character rather than just for name recognition.

Gotta admit, I have my doubts, but after seeing it, my brother and I are eagerly looking forward for an eventual 3rd installment. 3:03 - it’s revealed in the post credits scene 3:43 - Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling did not return because of a pay dispute - and hey, at least John Ratzenberger got to say one line of dialogue again (after a 5 (technically 4) film absence): he’ll probably only return as characters he previously voiced moving forward (like the Yeti in Monsters at Work, Fritz in this film and hopefully Hamm for Toy Story 5)

Main compliment. The “villain” is not evil. It is presented as a well intentioned coping mechanism, and the message is that a whole person’s normal expressions can range on a spectrum, not a static internal message of “I’m a good person”, as Joy wanted at the start. It is amazingly positive as it does not punish the viewer by rooting for emotions that are purely good then reminding them they personally can’t live up to that standard themselves. We make decisions we regret. We make choices that aren’t always in our best interest. That doesn’t make us bad people… just people. We live, we learn, we grow. Still loving the reviews, Smeghead. Keep making us laugh!
@paisleyturtle70276 күн бұрын
While the deep-dark secret is “revealed” in the post credit sequence, two secrets are revealed, one of which Deep Dark confesses, the other is speculated on by Joy, which send Deep Dark into a fit of humiliated anger. Not sure if it meant he was angry about exposing this or frustrated his answer wasn’t believed. Going with the former, but the latter is also a possibility.

It was still enjoyable for me, but there were a few things I disliked (and it might only be me, so, whatever). 1) Anger, Fear, and Disgust were pushed in the background. More than in the first movie. There they tried to manage things in the Head Quarters; here they just tag along with Joy. That's it. 2) Riley was quite a tomboy in the first movie. Here she moved to a feminine side. It's totally fine on its own; after all, children are supposed to change quickly. My problem is that it happened off-screen. I'd rather prefer we see that transformation. 3) The whole thing revolves around a sport, which knocks my interest down quite a bit. 4) Anxiety's journey was pretty close to Joy's one in the first movie. She assumed she knew what Riley needs, and everybody else was there just to follow her lead; and some other emotions she considers harmful and tries to isolate. She learns at the end that all emotions are valuable. 5) Val was one foot in the Uncanny Valley for me. I can't pinpoint it, but something bothered me about her figure. Update: 6) I really hate it when characters are made to surrender their phones, and they just comply. But here it wasn't even relevant to the plot!

The first Inside Out is one of my favorite movies of all time, so I was very anxious about how this would turn out. No, it wasn't the first one in a lot of ways, but I still absolutely loved it. Here's hoping this is a sign that Pixar is at the top of their game again. And like everyone else is saying, the panic attack scene was unbelievable. Movies aimed at adults don't go that hard.

I wouldn’t say Anxiety is a villain, more of an antagonist, because I get the feeling that anxiety doesn’t necessarily want to do what she does, but feels that she has to, and those goals not only are a contrast to what Joy wanted, but is mostly a misguided way to ensure Riley’s success at camp while maintaining a positive relationship with her coach and her friends without realizing that the actions caused by anxiety while with good intentions made things worse

I'm honestly glad it wasn't a rehash, but more of an evolved continuation. It builds upon the previous film, which is what a sequel should do. Joy is more mature and lets the other emotions do their jobs, and the concept of the "sense of self" is very interesting and thought provoking. As someone who's had panic attacks as a kid, I thought it was very spot on in that depiction. It may not be as "impactful" as the first film, but it's still just as good.
@trinaq6 күн бұрын
I appreciated that they didn't make Anxiety a full out villain. She's a regular emotion, like the others, but she goes too far in her pursuits. Maya Hawke was fantastic, and it reminded me of Joy from the original, in that they both tried to protect Riley.

It could start as a small statured character and then begin to grow as the years go by, y’know? EDIT: also, is someone who actually does suffer from severe anxiety and has had anxiety attacks before, this one was close but not as close as the Puss in boots panic attack. Your anxiety attack may vary depending on who you are.
