Well, this might be a more personal experience; but when I was growing up, in middleschool and highschool, if you could do a backflip on command, you were instantly the "cool kid". It just brought a smile to my face. :)

I'm attributing it to creators slowly creeping closer to realism without shocking the "true fans" who are attached to the unrealistic original. Back when aunt May was first created they didn't know that Spider-Man would be one of the most beloved of the company's heroes, so it didn't matter what age aunt May was as long as she was obviously older than her nephew. You can't get much more obvious than white hair and wrinkles.

What really struck me is that when he saved Vulture, he didn't tell people. Peter is just a kid, who could have easily bigged himself up to Tony to impress him. I don't know, the whole end of that scene just felt so humble

He DID tell though: did you not read the note he left on the rubble right by where Vulture was tied up at the end? He signed it "Spider-Man". In any case, Tony definitely knew it was him because THAT'S what made Tony offer Peter the new suit. Were you even paying attention at all? That's kind of hard to miss.

There are only 2 wins I feel you forgot to mention. 1. The young Aunt May actually makes more sense than her previous incarnations. Think about it, it makes no sense for Peter's mother to have a sister that looks like she's in her 80's. Plus, it's his Aunt May, not his _Great_ Aunt May. 2. "I'm.....loooking......at porn."

His mom's sister? No, Aunt May is Peter's father's older brother's wife (which is why Ben and May were older). Ben was Peter's uncle by blood, while May was his aunt by marriage, hence why she has the same last name as her nephew.

Probably very late to the party, but I love how they leaned into Vulture's whole aesthetic by making him a villain whose whole business is built on picking apart dead bodies. Just like how real vultures mostly scavenge for food rather than hunting. Edit: got to the end of the video. He totally addressed this already. Oops.

I also really loved how vulnerable peter is. A lot of times with male characters they aren't allowed to show any emotion beyond anger or strength, but this peter didn't follow that. I thought it was really refreshing to see a character who cries, messes up and feels sorry, shows his emotions, and genuinely cares about his friends while still being strong and saving lives in the process

You know, I really love how distinctive each MCU film is, doctor strange is a fantasy film, winter soilder feels like a spy mystery thriller, and homecoming feels well.... Like a highschool movie. No one movie in this entire saga feels beat beat for beat the same. And I really like that.

that hug where tony was just trying to open the door, it was unscripted. tom holland just thought it would be funny if peter thought tony was trying to hug him, and rdj being, well, rdj, played off of that and it made for one of my favorite clips ever ((edit: also, tom holland did as many of his own stunts as possible. he's also trained in gymnastics and i just love him so much. tom holland is the best spiderman, imo.

@@alyssa2807 That's the story of the whole MCU baby. John Favreau's insane directing in Iron Man is what made the MCU what it is. Iron Man 1 had basically no script. Favreau just worked with the actors to make it happen. Even the insane ending line "I am Iron Man." was RDJ making shit up on the fly. Just think of how much one actor's ad-lib affected the MCU. The fact that they don't have secret identities is all because of one improvised line.

There is no inside source that confirms that this scene is improvised. This scene was used to contrast Tony and Peter’s relationship from the end of civil war to the end of homecoming. It could have been improvised, but i highly doubt this because its a such a perfect comedic/deeper nod to character development and their relationships.

The scariest part of the scene with Vulture in the car is that given Peter’s enhanced senses even if he didn’t see the gun he would have heard it being cocked,and he would have been able to smell the gunpowder plus the whole thing is a stark reminder that Peter really is just a kid. Sidenote I actually found Vulture more terrifying when he was out of the Vulture suit and was just being Toome’s, he was actually super intimidating just as a normal guy.

It's also so raw and packed full of untold emotions. There's nothing held back with it; it's just pure, genuine fear at the situation. It's just pure shock, fear, and sorrow rolled into one beautiful masterful moment that just speaks volumes to Peter's helpless panic at the situation. It also makes his turnaround a lot more triumphant.

Agreed. I'm normally somewhat emotionally detached towards film characters because, you know, they're not real, but that scene made me genuinely distressed. I felt like I was listening to a real human being feeling terror and despair and it brought out a primal reaction in me. Full respect to Tom Holland.

This one was really good. Tom Holland is excellent! The "teenagers" were, overall, fairly great. Marisa Tomei doesn't try to expand a rather small role, but packs very much into it. Michael Keaton brings psychological realism to comicbook villainy. He is definitely a bad guy, he's just a principled eye-for-an-eye guy: if you help him or at least don't mess with him, you are safe. Threaten his plans, you are dead. RDJ performs a high-schooler's idea of an adult: doesn't help, doesn't listen, doesn't appreciate, doesn't realize that in your own eyes you already are what you are striving to become. And, ultimately, someone who actually cares, tries to help without keeping you from growing, and who you really should have listened to.

5:36 I'm an only child, and I got bunk beds for both sleep overs, and also because the bunk bed I got, the bottom bunk folded into a couch, which made playing videos games a lot more comfortable.

People need to stop hating on MJ. You need to understand she is NOT Mary Jane from the Spiderman trilogy. She is Michelle Jones, her own unique character, and her saying she went by MJ in homecoming was just a little reference that marvel wanted us to have fun with. Don't hate homecoming MJ because she isn't like the original MJ!

When I heard that line, I immediately thought it was said in direct relation to uncle Ben's death, which was never specifically noted, and if it did happen, it was off-screen, but I imagined that line encapsulated that entire arc within just one extremely meaningful sentence, because it is literally just a paraphrase of "with great power, comes great responsibility".

There's also another subtle nod to Uncle Ben and what happened with him when Ned finds out he's Spider-Man and says he'll have trouble keeping the secret. "Ned, May cannot know. I cannot do that to her right now, you know? I mean, everything that’s happened with her, I... Please." And then Ned and Peter share a very specific look that tells you Peter isn't saying something that directly relates to this reason, but Ned knows what it is, and understands why Peter wouldn't want to say anything about it. My guess is Ned heard what had happened to Uncle Ben (and was likely friends with Peter at the time) and helped Peter through it (though probably isn't aware that Peter feels guilty for it). If Ned didn't know about Uncle Ben, they wouldn't have shared this look. Peter doesn't even mention what happened with May, but Ned doesn't even question it.

My favorite scene is in the bank, where Spider-man confronts the robbers wearing Avengers masks, because the poster behind him says, “Identity theft? @youtube account Recently I rewatched the Raimi's trilogy and… as movies they're not very good imo. The acting are quite bad, some lines are cringy, the story is okay… but I'll admit that they're fun to watch. Dr Octopus doesn't resemble his comic counterpart but still lovable. MJ is seriously the worst character and Aunt May is too rude in those. As a trailblazer it opened up a genre but the quality doesn't hold up to the standard now. I don't think in any means they're bad tho. Walking out of the theatre after watching Homecoming and FFH left me wanting more Spiderman. This version of Spiderman is friendly, funny but not cringy. Now I'm wishing Marvel to reboot the Fant4stic so that Spiderman got some buds. Change my mind.

@youtube account I haven't sussed if you're trolling, being a contrarian for the sake of it, or are genuinely this deluded. You obviously have a right to your opinion, but there is something about the level of misplaced passion for what are essentially schlocky camp-tastic and undeniably flawed films that spawned from the tail end of an age when comic book films were (at the time) C-quality novelties whose only saving grace was their charm that came from the godawful acting, cringe dialogue, cheap costumes, and admittedly loving direction despite the end result. You are blinded by nostalgia. The Tom Holland films aren't perfect, but compared to Raimi? Well, it doesn't even need to be said. It's not the love you have for the Raimi trilogy that irks and confuses me. It's the hatred for the Holland films that leaves me at a complete and utter loss.

WeSuckAt Games No, Spider-Man’s death was part of the script, but the hug was not. Tom Holland did not know about his death until they filmed that scene. When he learned that he was going to die, he improvised from the “I don’t feel so good” to the dusting.

By far, my favorite part of Marvel's spidey is that he's a KID. They need to write him like one. Peter is supposed to be my age, and in these movies (as in civil war, infinity war, and obviously this one) he behaves exactly how I and a bunch of my classmates and friends would. He's excited, he's happy to be part of something, he's dorky and nervous but he lets himself have fun, and he's confident in himself even when he messes up. I ADORE Tom Holland's portrayal.

2:55 great point. There are definitely cliques, and people hang out with their typical groups, but there’s no set boundaries might get you ostracized if you cross them. My best friend plays smash during lunch, but sometimes I go to sit with another friend of mine, who was homecoming royalty. After school I might hang out with my friends before their track practice starts, but only if I don’t see my theater friends first. We don’t just talk to the same 5 people every day

I like Zendaya's character both in her own right and as a love interest for Peter, I just have a hard time seeing her as MJ in anything but name. That said, the fact that her real name is Michelle Jones and not Mary Jane tells me that they're aware of this and just gave her the nickname as a nod to the comics, which I can appreciate.

Yeah, I don't think she's supposed to be Mary' Jane Watson in any way. There is really zero connection. I see her as a character completely original to the movies, and the MJ tag was just to confirm that yes she's going to be the love interest. Though in that regard, I do wish they would have just called her Michelle even after the "My friends call me MJ" to emphasize the fact she's not Mary Jane.

She's not even young, Marisa Tomei was in her 50s when the movie came out. The people that are complaining think she's 20 something and don't know any better. She's supposed to be his aunt, not grandmother. She's his aunt by marriage, so Uncle Ben was his blood uncle and she was his wife before his death.

Gotta love how they made Vulture almost an actual Vulture in this movie. The Avengers took down the main threats, then Vulture and his team went in and took the goodies from the carcasses, all the while keeping themselves far away from major threats that they surely would not be able to beat, like the Avengers.

Easily my favorite live action. All the performances, the pacing, and the scale are all perfect for a real "First Spider-Man" outing. Keaton and Holland KILLED their roles and this is the first time I can say I really liked The Vulture of all villains! Loved the video as a quick little catch up for the new movie! Thank you!

What I loved about Tom's Spiderman is the fact that as a kid I can relate to him the same way older fans related to the character back when the marvel cinematic universe wasn't even an idea. The Spider man role has been passed like a torch and people have grown up with it from to the people who watched the Maguire's movies as children who are now adults to the children who are currently watching Tom's iteration brings a sense that as viewers Spiderman has come full circle and the older audience can share something with their children that they treasured which can then can be passed on Edit: Woah didn't expect many likes but thanks guys😁

I don't think Garfield ruined Spidey. He just didn't seem like a kid who would get bullied in highschool. The movies also suffered from the writers trying to cram too much stuff into one movie.

I don't know why people say that Peter's tech is too "out of character", or, "too overpowered." The spider tracer is actually one of his gadgets in the comics. So he is just being more like the comic counterpart than other incarnations.

I don't think people realize how much tech Peter actually uses in the comics. Literally the only thing they didn't go right is that he makes 90% of his own tech. They forget he has an IQ of 250...

I completely missed it in many, many rewatches too. But this actually makes me wonder if we'll be getting Miles in later phases, since they DID introduce Aaron Davis casually and make mention of Miles indirectly. It wouldn't surprise me terribly if they did or didn't, but it would be a welcome surprise bringing two Spideys into the MCU.

One thing I think needs to be pointed out more about Zendaya's character is that through out the movie, she is called "Michelle," so while at the end she gives herself the nickname "MJ," she is not the same Mary Jane Watson as from the comics. Also, this is the MCU, Earth-1999999, not Earth-616 from the comics. Characters are going to be different from what people are used to, for example on Earth-50101 Spider-Man is a young boy from India and on Earth-1610 Norman Osborn turns himself and Harry into actual goblins-monsters

I love how this Spiderman film subverts every trope that happens in the previous Spiderman films. The villain doesn't kill himself at the end, there's no funeral, and Peter doesn't struggle with his powers. EDIT: I'm referencing Honest Trailers by the way. Although given recent events, it probably wasn't the best time.

I get your point but he does struggle with his powers. In the "giving directions to old ladys and webbing people trying to get in their own cars" montage, he does fall flat on his face by mistake. And after he "unlocks" his suit he does struggle A LOT to use it. But I agree with you, a lot of people blame this movie for being "yet another spiderman movie", but it was a really fresh take on the character.

Yep. Let's get rid of everything that made Spider-Man memorable. As much as I am glad that a villian doesn't commit suicide again, I feel like Peter NOT struggling with his new found powers just turns it off for me. That's what makes Spider-Man so memorable. The fact that he strugles with dealing with his powers, balancing both his social life and superhero life and keeping his identity a secret. It would make more sence if Peter was a lot older, then he wouldn't strugle with his powers, but if this movie showed us anything, is that Peter just got his powers, so he has a lot to learn.

idk why ppl complained about a young aunt may. in the other spider mans she's old enough to be peters grandma. in this one she's like 50-55 years old. im 16 years old and my aunts are 53 and 58, its a realistic age for a teenagers aunt to be.
