Cipolletti es una hermosa ciudad de la Patagonia Argentina, en la provincia de Río Negro, más precisamente en el Valle de Río Negro, a orillas del Rio Neuquén y en la confluencia de éste río, con el Río Limay, unión de la que nace el Río Negro.
Separada de la ciudad de Neuquén, y de la provincia de Neuquén, por el Río Neuquén, se puede cruzar por el puente carretero hacia la capital neuquina por automóvil, bus o tren.
Las ciudades más cercanas son, por supuesto, Neuquén, luego Allen, General Roca a unos 40 kilómetros, Cinco Saltos.
Si bien no cuenta con aeropuerto propio, su vecina ciudad de Neuquén, si lo tiene con conexiones a varias ciudades del país.
En cuanto a la historia, su fundación fue llevada a cabo por el General Manuel Fernández Oro, que había comprado algunas hectáreas en el lugar al Estado Nacional, de las que el 3 de Octubre de 1903 comenzó a vender en forma de lotes y se considera fecha de su fundación. Sin embargo, en 1909, el ferrocarril y la ciudad, adoptaron el nombre del Ingeniero Hidráulico Italiano Cesar Cipolletti, que realizó todas las obras de riego en la zona que permitieron el desarrollo de sus actividades de cultivo y el rápido crecimiento de la ciudad. Hasta entonces se llamó Colonia Lucinda, en honor a la esposa del General Fernández Oro.
Un dato curioso, el 12 de Septiembre de 1969 el intendente de Cipolletti fue desplazado del cargo por el Gobernador de facto de la provincia de Río de Neugro, la población se opuso a la medida y surgió un conflicto que llamó el “Cipolletazo”, en la que la ciudad de paralizó, se hicieron barricadas en el municipio y finalizó el 17 de septiembre de 1969, costándole la renuncia al Gobernador unos días después.
La actividad productiva se vincula fundamentalmente a la frutícola y vitivinícola, la ciudad tiene un área comercial muy desarrollada, y también una actividad industrial relacionada a la construcción, alimentación y petrolera.
Como información relevante, tiene una facultad de medicina de la Universidad Nacional del Comahue, que permite a los estudiantes luego realizar las prácticas en las Clínicas o Hospitales de la zona.
En relación a la oferta turística, en primer lugar, se puede conocer la confluencia de los Ríos Limay y Neuquén, con un mirador que se puede recorrer cercano a la Isla Jordán, haciendo senderismo. En la misma Isla Jordán, ya sobre el Río Negro, se pueden practicar actividades recreativas, con recorridos en lanchas, kayaks, etc.
