Thank you to Justin Dillon from Cirrus Aircraft (and Ken Goble) for showing us their new jet at the Santa Monica Airport.
The Cirrus Vision SF50, also called the "Vision Jet", is a single-engine, low-wing, seven-seat, very light jet aircraft designed and produced by Cirrus Aircraft. It is the first civilian single-engine jet to achieve certification with the FAA. This makes it the smallest and least expensive certified jet currently on the market. It is also equipped with the company's Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS) (which deploys from the nose of the aircraft), making it the first jet of any kind to come with a whole-aircraft ballistic parachute.

if you're in the left seat, you are restricted to left hand control only. that's the absolute dumbest thing i've ever seen in an aircraft. i watched a video of a very experienced and skilled pilot take off in the jet and he nearly clipped both wings when he rotated cause he had to do it with his left hand and at a 45 fucking degree angle at that. stupid. cirrus should be destroyed.

@@MrCrackheadst for the left seat, yes. but like you said, the stick is oriented vertically.. i witnessed a very experienced test pilot nearly crash the damn plane on his first rotation in it because up isn't up with that stick. it's ridiculous.

I like the parachute feature. You know you're not going to crash and burn in any case. If something malfunctions while in the air you know you're going home for sure. Very cool.

Not true..it's a very over-promised feature. Google the many times people have pulled it and either it didn't work or outside the very small envelope it deploys successfully. Essentially if you lose control and overspeed or plane is upside down - it's not going to work. It works well when you're high enough and have an engine out...slow down and then deploy. But then unless you're flying at night, an average pilot should be able to land successfully - with better odds of less damage to the airframe.

I enjoyed 4 years at Cirrus. Lots of fond memories and people I still think about often. I was fortunate enough to be trained by BRS people and installed the first production SR20. Nice to see Cirrus is still has their head in the clouds and moving forward. Hello to all of the old clan. Miss you

Another good video on the SF50. It seems that all these videos have one thing in common, posters trying to grasp any little thing they can find to talk about how useless this thing is. It really cracks me up. I like the concept and design of the all VLJ's and there is definitely a market for them, and I think they are here to stay. I hope some day to be in the right place at the right time to take one for a Demo ride..

I am thrilled too see this finally come about. I saw and took pictures in a mock up in Las Vegas at one of the airshows and in Denver for a prelude. I expect it to be a most marvelous aircraft to fly and am looking forward to a test flight soon.

Just stumbled on this video by accident. Ah yes, Santa Monica Airport. Learned to fly there with Gunnel Aviation from 1977-79 (was only 18-19 years old then). Man that was a long time ago. Gave up flying in the late 80's because I simply couldn't afford it any longer. Great memories.

I saw a several (at least three) Cirrus Jets taking off from Oshkosh in person and some on KZfaq of Vids of Oshkosh departures. Cirrus jets seemed to have low initial rate of climb... I don't know if they were heavy or the pilot had reduced thrust takeoff? Being single engine they don't need balanced field length and engine out climb gradients. Compared to other small light twin engine jets taking off, the twin jets got up and went.

The engine exhaust is cooking the V-tail. To place an engine at an upward angle of about 20 degrees is inefficient because the vertical component will o ly push the nose down

More planes don't have the option because they don't need a parachute to legally fly. The FAA wouldn't certify Cirrus airplanes without the parachute.

Is it right that orders for the Gen1 automatically get upgrade for the Gen2 and discount between the costs. Am really considering going on the list for the Gen2 and aware a long wait but very cool aircraft and would prob be the only owner in south east asia. PS nice video

There is a reason V-tails are not common. Seems a great idea on paper...less so in practice (all else being equal you would not want one...there is a reason you don't see a lot of them). Of course, they need one on this plane with a single jet engine placed where it is and that's fine. It makes sense for this plane and it works (obviously).
