People need to understand this was not a "performance" for accolades. This was a tribute from a grieving mother to her deceased daughter. She did a beautiful job especially considering the circumstances. I personally would have fallen apart. I think anyone looking to criticize need to just back away from the keyboard...

something about a older voice really puts the meaning of a gospel song on shine. . .im sure everyone felt her pain in that room. even if they honestly didnt give a damn about whitney or the tribute. this would have stopped everyone from playing with their phones.

Do you understand the strength that it takes for a mother to have to perform a tribute for her daughter in front of hundreds of people, with a slideshow of their memories playing behind her & only a couple months after her child’s death? Bless you then and bless you now to the illustrious Cissy. Whitney? I love you forever 💜 hope to see you in Heaven some day baby girl💜

I think Cissy did great on this tribute to Whitney. For all the people saying she sounds horrible and needs to sit down. She is in her 70s and still sounds great. For once would people stop being haters. Who post heartless comments about a performance that she put her heart into. That was here daughter and I personally think she went out there and killed it in a great way.

Simple minded people don't understand that in Gospel music it's not about what note you hit, or if you are sharp or flat, it's about how an audience is affected and moved, Cissy did just fine for her age and if this was in church people would be shouting in the aisles

Better talk! You can be sharp and flat a quarter of the song but if you are singing with FEELING AND DEEP SOUL, and the audience is moved, people are crying, people are dancing then thats what its all about! To me thats better than u singing in absolute perfect pitch and people are sitting there unmoved and untouched.

Some of you should hang your head in pure shame for all the negative comments about Mother Cissy Houston. Please believe and never get it twisted...this woman is a Gospel/Soul legend in her own right!! Yall better check her resume straight up. First of all she is a woman in her 80's and her voice and vigor is not as strong as it once was but trust her spirit in Faith has NEVER lost its power...please believe. And second of all she is a woman grieving the death of her daughter still. Some of yall bone heads will never experience what she has gone through. Again I say shame on you all who make such negative comments.

@dombon9783 where do you think Whitney Houston, got it from?! Mrs. Houston Cissy, that is was an amazing Soprano, who with and for the best of the best. Let's start with the Queen Of Soul Ms. Aretha L. Franklin's "Ain't No Way" the entire album. The long note being held in the background is non other than Mrs. Cissy Houston. So, paying tribute to only daughter at her age is absolutely beautiful considering the circumstances.

Bullshit. You don't have to sound like if you're still 20, But you at least have to be in tune. You can't be so off key. Just don't sing then. I don't care if she's old, the passion and soul are totally there, but she's out of tune anyway. Check out Shirley Bassey at the Oscars. Magnificent.

+Just Love It was not off-key. You are the one who is way off. Her voice was a little shaky because she was singing to her daughter who recently died. If you had a heart you would have taken that into consideration and kept your ignorant, negative comments to yourself. Some of us with hearts felt the emotion in her voice. This song nearly brought me to tears because as a mother of three daughters I don't want to even think about having to bury one. I certainly wouldn't be able to sing as well as she did.

Oh my God, this is so REAL! Music isn't about sounds, hitting the right notes, or any such thing as some sort of one persons idea of perfection. Music is feeling! That is why people can be touched by music without even understanding the language, the words ... because it is the emotion we understand. Cissy Houston sang beautifully! Yes God, Praise Him anyhow! It gives me great joy to see her in this time pay tribute to her child Whitney (Nippy) Houston. May God continue to bless Cissy, Bobbi Kristina, Donnie and evryone whom embraced Whitney for who she was a True Iconic Voice.

Mama still got it! I wonder if Whitney's death has changed the road to many of those following that drug addicted road. Such a total waste if not. A great loss to us all, so sad to see the last few years of her trying to cope end in tragedy. Please if you even think about taking a drug, watch all of the Whitney downloads on here, and rethink your decision, because after the first time, come others and your life will change and never be your own again. For anyone who thinks Cissy can't sing, listen to her background high notes on Aretha Franklins "Ain't no way" (it's a early B&W cover)... She will knock your sox's off. I don't know how after loosing her daughter like that, that she was even able to get one note out. My hats off to her and her strength at that terrible time in her life.

Applepiebetty This is a stellar performance from a strong and living mother. You could feel the pain in her voice. My cousin became a meth addict. His mind is too far gone. It's tough to know the person you've always cherished will never be the same.

Sissy is an icon singing to her only baby girl that has left this world and her baby's daughter too. The pain is felt in her voice, she is without merit or position just running notes so her girls hear her. God bless you Whitney and Bobbie Christina. Thank you for the music and for all it's glory, we did not live without it because of Whitney Houston.

I had no idea how good this lady was, her soprano backup for so many, is absolutely gorgeous, her range, control, inflection, true perfection.. As a soprano, I have always been frustrated, that the only way to make a living outside of Opera, for those who's best voice is in the upper range, were and still are forced to sing in alto range, which often, to me sounds more like shouting. As a young women I was regularly relegated to ohs and ahs rather than words, When I found a small group where I got to sing WORDS, I was thrilled. Still singing today at 82, and described as the lady who sings in the stratosphere. Now I just smile, the joy of making music is enough.
