Civil War and the Superhuman Registration Act has always been such a cool thing to read about for me. From a meta standpoint, I like to compare it to how Japanese superhero societies are commonly depicted in manga. Whether it's One Punch Man or My Hero Academia, the heroes are already (for the most part) registered in the government. It's always intriguing to see how two different cultures interact with the problem of heroism differently.

Personally I thought the unmasking fell flat, sure in a vacuum it’s a good moment for Peter and the tie in explore a lot of Peters big decision. But in context of the comic it made absolutely no sense, the Superhero registration act is explicitly stated that you only need to reveal your identity to the government, so Peter did not need to unmask himself in public. It was all Ironman pressuring him to do it. So both in and out of universe the whole thing was just a giant publicity stunt that unnecessarily made Peter and his family into targets for no reason.

@@tyuk5107 Not worth the sacrifice. It just reset spiderman into a bachelor until they put him back with MJ yet again which begs the question of why? As well as why such a long term circle jerk to change the status quo to then reestablish it? Its like just keep it that way or break it off permanently. But if you know the readers will riot then just make it permanent and dont be a coward and show characters growing up and maturing. Like I understand spiderman being introduced to every new generation but I'm tired of the constant rebooted movie series and the semi reboots in the comics. Like I'll read stand alone stories here and there but I wont stay interested if every 5 or 7 years theres a reset and suddenly all the changes whether good or bad are thrown out the window.

This is much deeper than the movies. Everyone sided with Tony, not knowing the full context of the situation. That those who didn't sign up would end up in jail, indefinitely, without any trial or due process and die, even those "superheroes" who didn't have powers. The worst part is Tony KNEW the implications of this law and still went along with it.

Oh, when I said potentially controversial opinion, I meant in relation to the main Civil War event being overrated (because of Mark Millar's writing and structuring), especially in comparison. Odds are, I think the Spider-man Civil War tie-in issues were well-loved and were definitely a highlight for me too. And, yeah, for me a lot of Mark Millar's Marvel works have not aged well. I wish the Ultimates was as good as I had remembered, especially since the Ultimate character designs for the Avengers were great. Buuuut it's just kind of alright. At least Ultimate Spider-man is still amazing! Great new video, btw!

@discolullaby5777
@discolullaby5777 2 жыл бұрын
There have been plenty of Spider-Man who have worked with others. Take Spider-Man and his fantastic friends. Hell, look at most cartoons now. All these avengers and people exist in the world and although people cry about accuracy. Those same guys screeching about it say that they don’t like Toms first movies because they feel too small scale. Everyone just recites what they hear the majority shouting. When they say Peter is suppose to be a nerd or this super nice kid. that isn’t true, Peter was an doutsider who got bullied who when he received his power bullied his bullies. He would think to himself how he doesn’t care if random strangers die and all these assholeish things, but it all changed after his uncle died. It took him time to grow and even then he still fell back into those earlier mindsets because people don’t just change right away. Also him being quipy I’ve read that it’s because it helps him with his fear and maybe that’s true now, but in the comics he did it to fuck with his enemies. He literally talked shit to get them to become emotional and make mistakes. Everyone thinks they know Peter but there are so many variations that it doesn’t matter.
@MarioSonicBee
@MarioSonicBee 2 жыл бұрын
@@KrisTermincho ofc well first I would like to say that High School Spider-Man is absolutely nothing like the Raimi movies. But if we look past that Peter’s arc in both the early days and in the MCU is about a boy finally becoming a man. Peter in the comics has a lot of similarities to MCU Spider-Man except for the anger, but the tone they both share is the same. Both are kinda like sitcoms that take on humorous stories with sprinkles of serious moments. For example in issue 8, Peter and Flash get into an argument which leads to the teacher telling them to settle things in a boxing match which ends with Peter destroying Flash. As for civil war Peter (before Aunt May gets shot) sees Tony almost as a father because of all the kind things Tony has done for him up until that point. The only reason why MCU Spider-Man doesn’t betray Tony is because he had no idea what was really going on. MCU Spider-Man overall is about a teen struggling with confidence in himself learning that he has the power to surpass everyone. It is the superhero version of puberty. Honestly if you take Andrew’s characterization of Spider-Man and combine it with the arc of MCU Spider-Man you get the most accurate Spider-Man to date even surpassing PS4 or Spectacular. If I didn’t convince you I am sorry I recommend Implicitly Pretentious, he has a way better way of explaining everything.

Damn, J. Michael Straczynski knows his shit. I'm just getting into comics and, well, when I started reading the first issues of Spider-Man, it felt boring. I mean, it was funny and all, but when I was reading the text I was getting so damn bored because characters would just say stuff they did out loud, and that made me stop reading it. Then I saw your video on USM, and when I started it, I couldn't stop reading. I'm on issue 53 right now. That being said, where would you recommend starting to read the main universe of Spidey? By the way, I watched Owen Likes Comics video on the ultimate universe's downfall, and it's a damn shame that writers thought that being dark and edgy for the sake of being dark and edgy was more "grounded". Richard Parker literally summed up the whole ultimate universe, lmfao. Bendis had a good strategy. He made his ultimate run more grounded by getting a shitload of stuff on Peter, and instead of giving up, he made hope guide Peter to be strong. Genius.

The story is amazing. Although there are things I can nitpick here and there about this story, and where it eventually leads us to, the story for spider-man himself is amazing. It's a great demonstration of who is his as a character and where he stands on the right and wrong scale law vs morality wise. It encapsulates emotion and moral obligation to a wide level and I love it for that.

It’s kind of ironic. At the start of the Civil War, Iron Man compromises on his beliefs to preserve the future, and Captain America stands his ground to protect people. Then at the end of the war, Captain America compromises his ideals to protect people and Iron Man stands his ground to protect the future. He still believes he did the right thing, but he secretly says that losing Cap made it not worth it. And then there’s Spider-Man. He trusts his father figure to take care of his family, and not betray his trust, so he compromises to lead by example and ensure a better future. But then Tony ropes him into betraying his friends and playing with things he doesn’t understand. Not only does his monster with Thor’s face kill a friend, but Tony treats good people like monsters in a cage. And he makes Peter complicit in all of this. And he is too stubborn to even apologize for it. Peter can’t stand it anymore. So he tells the truth and runs. And his family suffers for it. And when he has no one to help him when he needs it the most, he turns to Tony one last time. He even brings up how Tony was like a father to him, and that this was all his fault. And Tony still pushes him away because he’s afraid that everything he’s done will unravel if he admits he was wrong and people see it.

My predictions for the next spidey film is; Ned becomes hobgoblin. -Since Peter is technically non existent, Neds only friend has ever been MJ. He has feelings for MJ as he doesn’t talk to anyone else. -Felicia Hardy introduced in college, but not yet as Black Cat -Pete gets venom suit -gains confidence. Pete and Mj start to rekindle, while being flirtatious with Felicia. -Ned gets jealous and doesn’t like Peter. -Ned has is now completely lonely as he feels he’s losing MJ. -somehow becomes Hobgoblin (don’t know how). Maybe left over goblin tech. -Pete and Ned fight. -Pete almost kills Ned with venom suit, and realises it’s turning him into something he’s not. -Takes suit off -maybe Ned flees with venom ooze attached.

i recall hearing that civil war was originally an ultimate universe story. it makes sense, not just because millar was writing the mini-series, but the political allegories fit thematically with the ultimates, and the premise makes more sense in a world where superheroes are still a relatively new thing. also there's this newspaper in argentina called "el clarin" (which is what the daily bugle is called in the spanish dub of the raimi movies lol) that released a collection of spidey comics back in 2009. one of those stories was civil war and yeah, spider-man introduced me to the word "porn" lmao.
