You are a life saver (and money). Your garden building is the exact same size as the one I am building. I haven't poured the slab yet. I have been pondering how to build my building. I am going with a stud wall construction, but the rest is exactly what I will be doing. Half the price of what I was going to do. No roof trusses, and so much quicker and easier to build. It's Looking Better and Better every day! I've built a 7m x 5m garage over a year ago using those isolated boards/panels and it's great. Keeps me nice and warm in winter and cool in summer, not even mentioning the sound proofing the place. Great stuff and great work mate... Can't wait what you will do inside. All the Best

Fantastic result!!! 10 out of 10 for having the courage to think outside the box and then put your money where your mouth is. A great result and you’ll be nice and warm in the winter too! 👍👍👍 I’ve recently attached a few hardwood door frames to a green oak building . Instead of using screws I used 8mm s/steel dowels approx 100mm long. Drilled a 7.5mm hole into the green oak & 8mm hole into the frame. Tapped them in with a hammer creating a nice friction fit, then plugged them as you would a screw. Idea being, as the green oak shrinks it tightens up even more on the dowel and pulls it (like a piston) out of the door frame by just a few mm. I also used expanding foam tape between the frame and the green oak. The result for me has been solid and one of the frames has 4 opening doors on it. I can send you some photo’s if you would like to see the result, just let me know where to send them. All the best and keep up the good work.

Hey Man, just a quick tip I use. It may be worth setting up your battery chargers in a fearly dust free environment, as it the the fan cooled chargers suck in the air and the dust can cause the fan to get unnecessarily dirty. Just thought it might be worth you knowing.

I built an entire home out of similar Cold Room around 9 years ago. Didn't use anything to line inside, nor to clad on the outside and even in the Australian harsh tropical climate they are still like new panels. Also used off-cuts as walls for raised garden bed, placed directly into the ground without any protection from the elements and those garden beds are still solid as a rock to this very day. So personally, I see cladding as a purely aesthetic addition which is both expensive and unnecessary.

Because of its tendency to shrink, we blind-nail cladding like that here. Also, I use a handheld jig instead of measuring and marking for every piece. It saves a lot of time.

Really interesting videos !! You made a really nice job of the cladding. If I wanted to do a more basic job, would it be possible to fix some sort of cladding directly on to the panels. I have seen some builds use a nice red or even black corrugated panel. Thanks 👍

I like when you say "for a bit of added strength" - not building things strong enough is not something I associate with your projects, especially this one!

Yeah nice. One thing I always do on cladding like this is staple a strip of 150mm wide DPC downover the battens behind the ends of the cladding where it butts up to the douglas boards. That way if any rain does get in the joint between the cladding and the boards it will run harmlessly down and out the bottom without doing any damage. Maybe belt and braces but for the sake of what? £4 a roll and a handfull of staples it seems to make sense.

Nice to see the cladding, do you know the final cost yet?, I have an old asbestos garage about 60 years old and needs replacing. I'm thinking a slightly different approach. Build separate frames, insulate, and clad, then move into position and frame up/fix to the slab. I have designed apartment buildings using this cladding and are familiar with the speed of getting a wall insulated, plus its very light(before the timber cladding) I would then paint the cladding black using BEDEC paint. The reason for my approach is simple, working between tow existing neighbours garages so access is none existent!

Workshop looks ace Tim, looks like your mitre saw might need a new blade - I can recommend Saxon blades from Amazon, dead cheap and seem to cut much nicer for longer than the multi purpose Evo blades (who cuts through nails anyway!?)👍🏻

Hello mate. What are you doing with the back edge that butts up to the fence? Did you leave a big enough gap for battens and feather edge? I made a boo boo on my shed and put it too close to my fence so I can’t get battens in there now. Also you didn’t mention where you got the feather edge from, you mentioned what it was etc. I’m only about an hour from you (south-west of you) so wondered if you got it from down here. Cheers 👍

I'm planning on building a garden room using SIP panels. When cladding, should I be using battens to attach the boards too, or is it ok to just attach the cladding directly to the OSB boards of the SIP panels? I am going to use a breathable membrane to wrap the building before the cladding. Appreciate any advice.

What a damn shame I thought when I came to watch this video. You made such a cracking job of the timber then covered it up on the outside, what were you thinking? It would of looked so amazing if you'd stuck with tradition and filled the beams with the insulating panel instead of covering them up. You have your reasons and you still made a great job of it but as a young man I worked a few years restoring timber frame houses and still have a soft spot for them.....

it obviously looks better but isn't really worth using the panels
