I'm a private locator and when we have to do surveys and have to mark public utilities when it comes to Comcast if I have a pedestal with three or more cables coming up into it and no other pedestal insight, I will normally clamp all of them to better isolate each signal.

That's fine, as long as you don't exceed 8 kilohertz when clamping onto each cable. For locating purposes and preventing damage, it’s best practice to bring everything back to the pedestal to ensure all cables are accounted for and that you didn't bleed over to a different utility while clamping the cables.

@@811chicago5 yeah normally I would definitely love to be able to bring everything back to the pad but on the private side, we normally never get any type of prints when we do surveys so gotta do everything by looking around. But that's a nice thing about surveys there because they normally take a while and, they are low risk since they do not dig.

Just a lay person that finds this stuff interesting, I've seen other locator videos send a fish tape down the duct and direct connect to get a heading going I suppose if it really was crucial

Whenever you see someone using fish tape on a duct system or a conduit run, it indicates that the cable is dielectric, containing no metallic materials that can produce a tone. Therefore, it is essential to fishtape the duct or conduit run to accurately mark out the dielectric cable.
