There's a lot of that self-hatred among black folks. Scott, Thomas, Owens, Colin Noir... the list goes on. Sad but it's always been that way. Some of us look at our own and think "I want nothing to do with that" and ally themselves with the very group that would love to see the end of us. Funny thing... If the right ever obtain total dictatorial power, those black folks wouldn't have any share in it. The black women especially probably wouldn't like the roles the new fascists would have for them.

11 years ago I made a career change and moved to DC and soon after I started I was able to go to a SCOTUS hearing through my job. I never agreed with Thomas on much of anything & didn't think he was a good appointment to the Court however I did at least think he took his job seriously. As the hearing was going on I began to notice that Thomas wasn't even paying attention to either argument. He was staring at the ceiling and playing with his pen. I was doing my best to see what was going on but for a moment I looked up at the ceiling to see if something was up there. I know it was only a moment in time but my actual live impression of him was that he just didn't care to be there & it was more of a bother to him. I don't care where you are at on the political spectrum this man is a disgrace to the Court.

All that matters now is reasonable doubts about integrity. Lawyers generally, and judges in particular, are supposed to conduct themselves in ways that doubts about integrity can't even arise. And Thomas' most recent defense turns all that on it's head - saying that it's not important what it looks like as long as he thinks it's within the letter of the law. He's just got to go.

'Caesar's wife' doesn't seem to be a term that the American judiciary are familiar with - because THEY KNOW they are expected to slavishly follow the expectations of their political appointers. Nothing except part loyalty will ever matter to the supreme court of today. Supreme court justices of hte past must be looking down in horror. The recently and fraudulently appointed right wing judges of today will only be looking UP to see what's happening, once they're dead.

I've met other Black men who were in a rush to differentiate themselves from what they perceived to be a stereotype of Black liberalism and progressivism lumped all in with one of a lack of self reliance or ambition. They were "not like the other Black people" (to paraphrase a common media troupe) and would go to great, hateful and ridiculous lengths to show it. It was odious. I get the impression from this interview that Thomas felt rejected by other Black students, felt very lost... and I wonder if perhaps he was disappointed by the Black Panther movement, which had its failings there at the end. Tho I can't imagine he was bothered by the sexism 🫤 Idk... I think there are always rich, right wing white people in a hurry to prove they're not racist by picking "a good one" and it sounds like he was looking to get picked and belong somewhere. It's, as Rev Sharpton said, depressing.

Clarence Thomas' world view is built entirely from his resentments. I was an undergrad at Yale College and had a job bussing tables at the Law School when Thomas was a student there. He was regarded as an average (I would say, mediocre) student at best. I worked at EEOC while Thomas was director. At the time the agency had a huge surplus, enough to give out raises and promotions to employees. Thomas' solution? Spend the money on upgrades to the HQ building in Washington. Those upgrades conveniently ate up ALL of the surplus, was not needed immediately and could have been delayed for years. He has always considered employees and citizens to be his enemy.

I never knew about Thomas' radical past! It's amazing really. So Thomas, rejected and alone, finds solace on the right and then proceeds to enact policies that hurt the people he was initially allied to. Revenge? Or just trying to fit in with his new crowd? Yeah, I'm looking forward to this documentary.

Watching the documentary about the Thomas' early childhoods was disturbing, really sad yet diffucult to watch. I feel badly for Clarence Thomas and what he endured, but it still doesn't excuse how he allowed Harlan Crow to use him like he did. It did reveal how Ginni was raised, brain washed in her upbringing, so it looks as if she used Clarence as well.

I'm into politics. When I was going to school, when I was in my American history class, I was impressed about the Supreme Court. They have to question a bill that is approved by the House of Representative so it can become a law. I like that America's system is created very well. The Supreme Court has to question how a bill will cause violence, progress, and justice. I wish I was able to learn how to become a member of the Supreme Court.
