some people may see this as "foreshadowing" on martha kent's part, but i see this as martha being the reason clark fulfilled her dream. to see her son fly. it's fantastic how superman & lois gave clark's birth and adoptive parents so much influence, hammering home the fact that Superman can't be Superman without the ones he loves.

I'm surprised that very few people seem to have caught that "My Mom made it." Is the same line Dean Cain's Superman used in the Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman pilot (to a kid Cain's Superman is saving, who comments on the costume). The great thing is all the brilliantly done callbacks-- to the Fleischer cartoons, Action Comics 1, "like a bird or a plane", "My Mom made it" is they're great bonuses but the emotional beats of the scene still work if you don't know them, and it's beautiful.

This is what so many creators don't understand about what Superman's suit should be. If you're an entity powerful enough to obliterate every army on earth, how do you get people to trust that you're only here to help? You use a homemade circus strongman suit with underwear over your pants, not some tactical "badass" suit with alien technology. Zack Snyder said in so many interviews "we tried to make the red trunks work, we really tried, but it just doesn't work." No Zack, it does work, and it will always work. I have nothing personal against Zack Snyder but he has a fundamental misunderstanding of this character

Although they tried to be a little to meta in this episode when they have the woman come up to him and describe what happened saying how he flew like a "bird or aa plane' or something. I don't have a problem with that. The problem is she's pointing in the direction she's running towards, not away from, where it happened.
