I put the Ecovacs T8 AIVI and the Roborock S6 MaxV through 9 challenges to determine which is better for your needs.
UPDATE: I was mistaken, the S6 MaxV does have electronically controlled water flow in its mopping attachment via a pump. This doesn't make the stock mop any better, so doesn't really affect anything, especially the outcome. Nevertheless, I apologize for the error.

This was so good and helpful! I was thinking about those two, and knowing my sofa has a 10 cm space under it, and that the Roborock doesn’t take less than 15cm spaces very well, I wasn’t sure about the T8. You made me feel now very comfortable with the T8, and I have to say that was the best video I’ve seen up to this moment. Thank you so much!

I have been putting up with it for months and even though I sometimes want to chuck it out the window, it is still my favorite robot. @@kristinekerr3688 It’s great so far! No complaints from me. I haven’t had any mapping or navigation issues. The auto empty station is amazing. It vacuums for me and I don’t even need to do a thing - the app notifies me when it’s starting its cleaning cycle and when it ends. The only issues I’ve had are sometimes it gets stuck on things but the app lets me know that it’s stuck which is convenient. Being able to tell it to clean certain zones via Alexa is a nice feature as well. I also followed Mr. Roombato’s suggestion and bought the Pro Mop. It’s definitely better than the regular mop attachment but it’s not life-changing like the vacuum itself - more for maintenance mopping and not deep cleaning. I’ve purchased a bunch of cleaning pads and auto-empty bags from AliExpress - cheaper and essentially the same quality as from Deebot for a fraction of the price. Hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Great video. 👍. I think the T8 ran over the poop when it was returning to the charger after cleaning - ours seems to go brain dead when it’s finished a clean and it doesn’t seem to use it’s map to go home, but just sort of bumbles back in the right direction and ploughs into pretty much everything on its way home like a drunk. Love it overall though. The dustbin emptying issue with the pet hair is easy to overcome as well by blocking one of the ports, but it’s a bad design trying to empty from both sides at once.
@MrRoombato

Loved the video. I am about to purchase and this has helped a lot. I was also thinking about getting the auto empty station. Have you done any reviews on that?
@MrRoombato
@MrRoombato 3 жыл бұрын
Not that specifically, not yet. I can tell you it's a pretty good empty station. It does very well with all debris types except hair (in my case pet hair). The reason for that is, the hair tangles up into a solid clump, and since there are two extraction ports on either side of the bin, the suction is pulling at the hair clump from both sides. So in order for it to be emptied, the suction has to be strong enough to tear it in half, and it isn't. This is only a problem if you have a LOT of pet hair. So if you clean daily, for example, it would only affect the first day's hair clump. It's a very good bin though, and that's not enough of an issue to reconsider buying one. What IS an issue is the absurdly buggy app. It will drive you nuts. If you don't need AI, don't buy the T8. Buy a Neabot. If you don't need the auto empty station but need AI, buy a Roborock S6 MaxV.
@kristinekerr3688

Today is also Prime Day so I’m feeling the pressure to get something on sale😩
@MrRoombato
@MrRoombato 3 жыл бұрын
@@kristinekerr3688 Sorry I replied too late for Prime Day, but I didn't see any sales on Ecovacs products, and the sales they had on robovacs weren't that great. You're confusing Neabot with Deebot...Deebot is Ecovacs, Neabot is a different company. None of the hybrid robots mop well, so if you just want an okay mop that you have to set up every time you use it, the T8 is your robot, but then you also have to buy the pro-mopping attachment. The stock mop only drags a wet pad around, lightly touching the floor. For the money you would spend on a T8 with auto-empty docking station and the pro-mop, I recommend a Neabot N1 and an iRobot Braava Jet M6 (or iLife W400 if you have room dividers that rise more than a few millimeters and the M6 would have problems crossing them). If you're set on Ecovacs, the regular T8 is fine. I'm not sure if the pro mop is available for the N8, but if it, you'll save some money there.

Nice video, thanks for sharing. I am currently waiting to see how the new roborock s7 turns out. I would like to buy a second robot to go with my i7 since it takes several hours with charging inbetween to clean my house of 1800 sq ft / 165m2. The i7 is also quite loud and annoying when working from home. After seeing the roborock it also bathers me the way the i7 bumps into things instead of stopping before hitting the objects. (Benefit of this is however that it cleans under the couch when the couch has “curtains” between the floor and couch, something I guess the lidar based bots will not do) Do you think the new roborock s7 will be worth the wait and do you plan on reviewing it when it arrives?
@MrRoombato
@MrRoombato 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I don't know if I'll review the S7, to be honest. After owning AI robots I'm not particularly interested in "dumb" ones at the price the S7 is going to sell for with that bin. Also, those rubber brushes (like on your i7) will scratch your floor if they are dirty (I have a video about both the Roombas scratching floors and the S7's brush design potentially doing the same if you're interested). I don't want to have to clean brushes every few days, it kinda defeats the purpose of the auto-empty station. If I have to take the robot apart to do maintenance every few days, I may as well empty the bin! If you're looking for a robot to compliment your i7, I recommend the T8 (AIVI or regular) with the auto-empty bin. The only real downside is that the app is buggy, but it's not so buggy that you can't set it and forget it (schedule cleaning). I'm looking forward to the new Samsung AI robot, and that will be my priority as far as reviews. I am currently testing the Neabot, and I'll have a video about that soon, so that may be a low cost option. So far it seems to be a great robot for a fantastic price.

Yes, I anticipate that, but I'm afraid it will be camera based. The j7 is still just as blind and dumb as the i7 when it comes to mapping and navigation (from what I've managed to piece together, I refuse to buy one), it just has the added feature of object avoidance. If a t9 (s + 1 :) ) comes out and has lidar...that will be the most exciting product. Unless it also scratches the @#!@# out of floors, like the s9 does.

nice video with descriptions, but if you keep a chart of all of them, I think your scoring needs work. For example, I would rather you give a 5 provided you vacuum during the day verus knocking off a point. Similar with mopping. Give it a 3 stock and 5 with attachment - a 4 is not correct for either. I would rather you give the exact quality score and add an adjustment with a comment. All the same, good to see the gripes.
@MrRoombato
@MrRoombato 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. All of these scores are always going to be somewhat arbitrary. I scored based on availability of options. For example, both robots have crappy stock mops. So 3 and 3. The T8 has an available mop that’s great (for a hybrid). That’s 5. But it doesn’t come with it. So 4. The availability of the better mop raises the score. Same thing with the auto empty bins. There will never be one for the S6 unless they pull some techno-magic trickery.

You just asked me, "Who is the best, Neil Armstrong, Albert Einstein or Earnest Hemmingway." :) The S9 is the best at actually cleaning, has the best app, is the worst at mapping and navigating and will severely scratch your floors. The T8 AIVI, assuming you have the auto-empty bin, is the best overall robot. Cleans really well, navigates really well (most of the time) and won't scratch your floors. It has an available mop that is actually not bad for a hybrid robot, but Its app is annoying and buggy, and its auto-empty bin sucks...but you can work with it. The S6...assuming you mean MaxV, is the best at everything except cleaning carpet, but has no auto-empty bin, so is out of the running unless you love emptying dust bins every day.

DO NOT ever buy a Roborock unless you want to be stuck with useless junks after just one or two years! The Roborock might be a good vacuum in terms of its functionality and features, but it has an extremely horrible and almost non-existent warranty. I have a Xiaomi that I bought about 2 years ago. It was working great keeping my whole house clean. Our whole family loved it. All of sudden, it started to have Error 13 and stopped being fully charged. So I decided to contact the Xiaomi support. They first made the pretense of checking if it was a problem with the charging contacts, making you take ten thousand photos to email them and then finally decided that it was the problem with the robot itself. And then they just toss you off to the dealer that you bought the unit from and have nothing to do with you. It was a dealer on eBay that I bought it from who is located all the way in Beijing and had no English support and according to my research was even fined for having falsified information. I contacted them several times via numerous phone calls, emails to both the dealer and Xiaomi support itself and no avail. They have stopped responding to my emails and refusing to speak with me. I have spent $600+ on the robotic cleaner and just after 2 years, it's now useless junk. And this is Roborock's strategy. They would rather spend $$ on people to promote their products (and this is why you see roborock reviewers popping up everywhere on KZfaq) than on after-sale support because they know their product is crap and they want to make you keep spending money to buy their products and that's how they make money. If they built a reliable product that never breaks and with excellent after-sale support that are ready to repair and replace the product for you throughout its life, then they will never make money. It's not enough that they force you to keep buying their accessories by giving you those indications on the robot to constantly tell you how badly you need to replace them no they have to make faulty products to force you to buy new one. Yeah I will buy new ones all right, but it won't be another Xiaomi or Roborock that's for sure. And this is truly Buyer Be Aware. This is what you can get from buying Chinese products in general. Fancy product but no support. And not to mention that they keep all of your private data down to the username, password and MAC address of your wireless modem, the floorplan, layout and square footage of your home on their server permanently.

I'm sorry you had that experience. I've never had anyone tell me this about Roborock before. My own experience with their customer service was excellent. @felinequeen9243
@felinequeen9243 2 жыл бұрын
@@MrRoombato Yeah they responded to my emails promptly as well. That's not the issue. The issue is them ditching me to the dealer once they found out it's my machine's problem that's not charging properly by telling me to contact my dealer claiming that it's the dealer that services my warranty but the dealer doesn't even have any English support and they never answered my phone calls or emails, not even once. And when I went back to Xiaomi, they never wanted to have anything to do with me anymore. They are not even answering my phone calls, or emails or nothing just basically leaving me with an useless junk. I have never encountered this ever with any products that I have bought before and before I bought my Roborock, nobody told me this either. All the videos that I saw were all about how great it works, how it vacuums the floor so well and all the exciting features. Nobody told me that it's only great when it works and when it doesn't, nobody is there to help you and all the money that you spent is gone. So I hope your Xiaomi or Roborock would last you longer but should anything happens, this is what could happen to you.
@felinequeen9243
@felinequeen9243 2 жыл бұрын
I understand you must be paid handsomely by Xiaomi or Roborock to promote their products. This is obviously how Xiaomi and Roborock choose to spend their money. Instead of spending it on after-sale product support and warranty repair/replacement, they decide to pay people to promote their products. It's great you are earning some extra cash to help you out and your family, but you need to be aware this is what can happen with their products and people should be aware of this so they can have a sense of the real cost of purchasing a Xiaomi/Roborock. Do a simple google research and you will find out Error 13 with Roborock products is a real, serious and quite a common issue and neither Xiaomi nor Roborock is doing anything about it.

Have you used the T8 AIVI on multiple floors? I bought mine mainly to use on my lower level and occassionally vacuum the upper level too but I'm losing my nerves on how often that screws up the map. This time, I've had to reset the entire darn thing and will have to go through the nightmare of mapping again. I have used multi floor maps and even reverted to storing a single map. I left the charging unit downstairs but as usual when I bring it back down and put it on the charging unit, it is not able to figure where it is and determines that it is a new environment and wants to start the mapping process again. For the price (AUD $1299), this is completely unacceptable. I've had so many other issues that I regret not returning the unit within amazon's 30-day return policy.

@grrahul
@grrahul 3 жыл бұрын
@@MrRoombato Yup, latest issue is after updating to the new app only. However, I don't thik all these issues are with the app. I think they are with the firmware of the robot itself as I think this information would be stored in the robot itself. Let me list out some of the issues I have been facing: 1) Sometimes when I have cleaned some areas (rather than a full clean), it would end up merging some of the areas (I have already faced issues with the labels being lost, something you've also faced) 2) Two times, this has happened, where it would just make endless small circles around 1 particular area. The only way to get it out would be to pause it and resume it or pick it up and move it. 3) It detects weird things like the base of a stand I have in my pantry as a power cord and then would avoid it (like the plague) by more than half a metre or so 4) At other times, it would run into shoes, etc. I've basically disabled AIVI as it seems to be completely useless and I anyway's tidy up the areas before running the robot 5) However. my biggest issue is with it losing the map when I take it upstairs. It is just unforgivable. There is no rational explanation that why it can't detect where it is when I bring it down stairs and put it on the charging dock (not that the dock is not moved at all).

@@grrahul I have had all of these same issues. Add to that random wandering yet showing exactly where it is on the map correctly, and bee-lining for a chair leg, cleaning around it, and calling it done for that room and moving on to the next. Are you following whatever dumb procedure Ecovacs laid out for moving it to a different floor? I can't be bothered to remember what it is, but they did tell me the right way to do it. Despite all that, I still love the thing, and it cleans every day.
@grrahul
@grrahul 3 жыл бұрын
@@MrRoombato No, I'm not aware that there is actually a right way to do it. It's unfortunate that the thing is so lame that you need to follow things in a certain manner else disaster (as in map being lost) can strike. It also sucks that the map cannot be saved on your phone so one can easily restore it when disaster strikes. I do love it when I start it up and it cleans almost the entire floor (almost flawlessly) but then all these teething issues make me hate it due to the amount of money I paid for it. Absolutely not. The T8 itself is a very good robot but the Ecovacs self empty bin is trash. It can’t handle even small amounts of pet hair. Trying to pull hair clumps out from both sides is the reason. The hair clumps together and the suction isn’t enough to tear it apart, so it just sits there. The only problem I've ever had with the dust bin emptying is when there are big clumps of dog hair that got tangled into one large clump. When it tries to suck these out from both sides, it is trying to tear the clump in half, and often fails. More frequent cleaning fixes this. Otherwise I had considered duct taping one of the ports closed. What sort of debris is yours leaving in the bin?

And while they have shown some interest in fixing it, they have failed to make any significant chances (I was overly optimistic with my "ecovacs fixed their biggest app bugs" video, as it turned out). It's slightly better trash now, but still trash. I hate their app with a passion. It's so disappointing, considering the quality of the robot itself, that it's kind of a tragedy. @@sumitb269 Well, it depends how much you value the auto-empty docking station. If you don't care, Roborock, no question. The T8 is great, but it's buggy. The navigation algorithm is dumb (it works well, mostly, but it often does very dumb things), the app destroys the map every time it finds something new (it used to do it every time you left a door closed but they fixed that), and the auto-empty bin is not that great. I have to manually empty it about once a week (it cleans every night). If you do care about the self emptying, and you don't feel like putting up with annoying quirks, I suggest waiting for either the Roborock S7 and it's auto-empty bin (or S7 MaxV or whatever they'll call that thing) or the Neabot Q11.
