Did you know that you need to contact clearance when departing a class Bravo airport VFR. Flying in a class Bravo VFR can be challenging and fun at the same time. Follow along as I depart MCO Class Bravo for a return flight to Ocala VFR.

I am retired from the FAA having served as a journeyman controller at Orlando International (KMCO) from 1988-1995. I actually retired in 2013 from Tampa International Airport (KTPA). I have a lot of experience in Class B as a controller and a pilot. This was a great video to demonstrate the communications process. The initial call did not state "Orlando Ground" but was just "Ground" following the aircraft call sign as I heard it.

3:59 and there's my job. I've had to drive trucks there several times with air boxes in them so they wouldn't miss the plane at night. Hope to be flying for an airline in the next 3 years once I build up another 1100 hours. Keep up the good flying, I would love to fly into a bravo but I know MCO would love to swat me like a bug for asking to come in there!

Years ago I flew into MCO a few times a week in a 150 for a while. The controllers always did a fantastic job of getting me in and out, and I came away with some great stories. Enjoyed seeing this and reliving old times.

It's interesting that many new pilots talk about their anticipation of heading into Class B for the first time, but in a sense I never felt that anticipation because I did all of my student pilot training out of a Class B airport to begin with...which was surrounded by the D.C. ADIZ (now SFRA). So having to learn about its rules and complexities was day one for me. While it was a tremendous workload learning that at such a neophyte stage, it made everything else ATC-related that much easier later on.

As always, another awesome video. What I liked most was the walk-out music that played for your departure. Kudos to your editing team. I am also going to need the name of the designed for your clothes. The Schappert look is what I am going for next year at Halloween. Always stylin'. I am not shaving my beard though...haha

After working at many different airports including KDEN and KDFW for my old job, I prefer the bigger ones because everything runs like it’s on a predictable script. Sure, it’s a faster pace sometimes, but the controllers and most of the aircraft are experienced professionals that just want to do it right. When in doubt, call the tower to find out when their busy “push” times are so you can avoid those and you’ll have an easier time getting in or out in a slower plane. If you’re lucky, they might even line you up on a runway nobody else is using.

If you anticipated taxiing on a busy taxiway with multiple commerical planes behind you, could you do the run-up at the ramp as a courtesy? Is that even allowed? Or is the mentality that you have just as much right to be at the end of the runway as the next guy?
@MzeroAFlightTraining
@MzeroAFlightTraining 3 жыл бұрын
Usually, there are places around the airport that they allow run-ups. However, sometimes the FBO doesn't like you doing a run-up on their ramp. If it is a new airport the best thing to do would ask the FBO or tower where the best place for a run-up would be.
@basstbones
@basstbones 3 жыл бұрын
shouldn't you be doing a run up before taxi?
@coreymcdonald7745

A lot of airports have restrictions on where you can do a run up. It is generally not advisable to do a run up on the ramp due to propwash
