Classic Game Room HD reviews SUPER HANG ON for Sega Genesis. This sequel to Hang On arrived in the arcades as an awesome arcade motorcycle racer in the late 80's and made its way to the Sega Genesis (aka Megadrive) in 1989. From designer Yu Suzuki, creator of Out Run, Super Hang On boasts amazing 16-bit graphics, excellent sound and brilliant arcade racer gameplay. This CGRHD review of Super HangOn has gamplay footage from the Sega Genesis Mega Drive Super Hang On where you can race in arcade mode or original mode. The original mode allows you to earn money and upgrade your bike, you can get codes and even enter codes found online now to jump right into the race with tons of cash. Personally I like the arcade mode better but Super Hang On is brilliant no matter how you look at it. Race all over the world on 4 different circuits from Asia to Europe and the Americas and Africa. Original mode does start off kind of rough, but once you get further into it, it gets better and better as you continue to upgrade your bike. Eventually your original mode bike will be much better than the regular Arcade bike and I had a blast trying to beat my lap times time and time again on Stages 5-7. Its def worth the grind and it adds alot of play value to the game itself.

I still remember when I was 4 or 5 years old and I played Hang On on my big brothers Sega Master System. Ah, those memories... :)

Recently played this again as its part of the Sega Vintage Collection on XBLA its still as tough as balls and as addictive as it was way back in the day, I always find myself picking it up saying "just one quick race" then a hour later im still saying "just one more race" between Super Hang On and Road Rash they definitley dont make motorbike racing games as interesting as this anymore. Cool review.

Great review as always, of course the arcade version is superior but the Megadrive did a sterling job. Great game such a shame sega hasn't done a hd remix or something for modern audiences.

Great review. I love this game and I think it still holds up today as a bike racer. The Megadrive/Genesis version was pretty good and the pace was good also. The bike version of Outrun I always thought.

Oh man, I loved this game so much back in the day. This was the first Megadrive racing game I ever bought (after upgrading from my Sega Master System) and at the time it really did feel like I was properly playing an arcade title at home.

I loved this game when I played this in the local arcades when I was a kid! 10 years ago, I bought myself a Sega Genesis from a GameStop, as well as this game with the Genesis, because I love racing on a crotch rocket. This game made me develop a love for crotch rockets!

I was play this game at age of four in 1987, the arcade version still rocks today, I play in mame , I love the music sountrack, I have the 20th anniversary Re-arranged CD by Koichi Namiki, pure rock!, my favorite game of 80's

Have been looking for an Outrun substitute and overlooked this. Had Hang on for the SMS but it didnt provide the challenge and variety that Outrun did. Had this on the 6 in 1 pak and did even realize it. But now I have! Thank you Lord.

I went to my Mom's over Christmas and she still has my Japanese Sega Mega Drive with the blue Reset Button!! It was like seeing the holy Grail!!

Cool i had got this on part of the six pack my dad got me as part of getting the sega. The games on there are Sonic 1,revenge of shinobi,streets of rage,golden axe,columns,and super hang on. Ah memories, i still have it actually

I just downloaded the Arcade version in my Wii (Virtual Console) and i love it. It uses too motion control.

4:25 You could also have "FreeWheel Burnin'" by Judas Priest (on the Defenders of the Faith album from 1984). That song rocks, and I'm glad they put that in Gran Turismo 4. "Turbo Lover," the title track to Priest's 1986 album (and featured in Gran Turismo 3) would also work, as would "Rock Hard, Ride Free."

If you ask me, the quality of Sega's games really took a hit when they stopped producing first-party. They've gotten better recently IMO, but keeping on with the DC would have ensured a lot more high-quality games.

good game, haven't played it in awhile though. when I got the Sega it came with a collection cartridge that had this , golden axe, columns, sonic, streets of rage, and shinobi. damn good collection

The thing that I've learned about playing a lot of these old classic games, is that sometimes it's best to play them while listening to your stereo or custom-made soundtrack. For example, a song like "Fuel" by Metallica would be a good choice. "Kickstart My Heart" by Motley Crue would be another. These are all old songs. But either way, racing games call for some good rock music. Not some cheesy MIDI music, know what I'm sayin?

Bikers on fire through Antarctica would be sweet!! If you hit penquins crossing the track, you get 1000 points! And the penguins would stay in the spiked bloody wheels, then sling off while on fire, and hit the screen with blood and guts oozing off. Great review!

I recently got an original Megadrive. My process for finding good games for it is: -Searching for reviews of Megadrive games by CGR -If review is good, try out game on emulator -If I like the game, order it from retrogames :)

Nice review! Is there a way to play SUPER HANG ON on a Saturn? I have the GP version and I don't like it. Playing Hang On Arcade in Shenmue, on the Dreamcast, is pretty cool as well.
