Beautiful artwork and I love these original covers so much. DC should issue reprints of these classic books with your covers!

I always loved that illustration of Adventure Comics #247. It looks like something out of a '60s sci-fi television series.

I also like the Crisis cover he did. Must have taken forever to paint, though, since George Perez was in overdrive for the original, it seems. Makes me wonder if Alex will ever recreate another Perez piece, the one from JLA/Avengers with every member of both teams (to that point) all there at once. Probably not, because dang that would take forever, but it's an interesting one to imagine being done as a photorealistic painting.

"You don't really need to redesign these characters" - So true. I wish DC had taken that approach the past three decades. DC is unreadable dreck at this point.

Looking at the art work of the Justice League... It's just one of those "Nigel Tufnel" reasoning things that always bothers me... "Batman" has to have black eye make-up, But the "Flash" doesn't has to have red eye make-up...
@RobertF-
@RobertF- 3 жыл бұрын
Interesting. You made me think.....I don't know if you are familiar with the basics of art but there's these three basic things about a color, the Hue(what color it is), the Chroma (how vivid or grey that color is), and the Tonal Value(how light or dark it is). The Flash, his outfit is obviously all about the Hue(red, Red, RED) and the Chroma (VERY VIVID). It's not so much about the Tonal Value (It's not too bright because it would get too light and pastel looking, and not too dark because then it would get grey and shadowy looking). Instead the tonal value is just forced into whatever serves the purpose of making the Hue and Chroma as brilliant and bold as possible. (I hope you're an art nerd and understand these boring technicalities, otherwise this must have just sounded like confusing nonsense. If so, so sorry.) Now, with Batman's outfit it's not about the Hue, or the Chroma. It's about the Tonal Value. It's about the darkness of his cowl and cape. It's about the contrast of his dark cowl against his relatively light skin. This I believe is why there is focus about putting dark make-up effects around his eyes, because the tonal contrast would be distracting looking otherwise. The tonal value of the Flash's red outfit is not as dramatically contrasting against his relatively light skin, and therefore no make-up effect around his eyes is felt to be artistically necessary. I'm not sure, but I hypothesize that this would be reversed if the two characters were dark skinned. If Batman was a black man, this make-up would probably be felt to be unnecessary as his darker skin would contrast in a less distracting way with the eyeholes of his mask, and if the Flash was black some dark reddish make-up would probably be more fitting around his eyes to lessen the distracting little slivers of unnecessary contrast around the eyeholes of his mask. This is somewhat of a tangent but I believe that the character of Bruce Wayne and The Batman will be popularly portrayed as a black man in the future. I believe the time of "Batman" being thought of as a white guy is one of the first classic comic book characters that will have a major overhaul and reimagining in American pop culture, and his race being changed from caucasian to African American I believe is inevitable in the pop culture lexicon relatively soon. Thanks for your comment and getting me to thinking. Peace ✌️ out

Minute 3:47 shows why the line stalled... Superboy has a defined schlong. That’s a no no in comics. How did that get past the censors and editors. LOL
