'95-'96 really marked the point where summer blockbusters - while never that smart to begin with - got really REALLY dumb. Twister, Independence Day, and Michael Bay started the whole trend of Xtreme misfits acting like douchebags during a crises while every single character had to have "wacky" lines. The dumbest disaster movies ever got before that was The Towering Inferno or Poseidon Adventure, and you sometimes got serious ones like The China Syndrome. All of those are outright brilliant compared to Twister, Armageddon, and Deep Impact.

Ugh I want to fight for opie, solely bc he’s not **as bad** as people say. He may not have been even slightly funny, and he did ruin quite a few moments, but he didn’t ruin the show at all… However, I can’t defend him when I hear “like he’s trying out for Weekend at Bernies 2! Wait they made 2 already didn’t they?” Jimmy or Ant could have taken that and made it at least palatable or possibly hilarious, but Opie has no confidence nor timing in his delivery. In this moment, he avoids making a traditional style joke with a punchline, and just throws out everything except “funny” And then as I’m typing, he does the SECOND most frustrating thing, making it hard to defend him…. Everyone is making jokes about the dead guy in the car, and Opie has a joke but HAS NO CONFIDENCE so he says “Steve from bay shore says…..”. And reads a joke without using timing… You were a naughty guy asking for a hook up and the guy..like…. (Then Opie’s unsung hero while plunging, Anthony, comes in and helps take over the joke and essentially jump in front of Opie and take the bullet, bc he knows Opie would have felt left out and made Gregshells more prevalent) Cmon Opie!! You’re not making it easy to defend you against all the people here who didn’t listen to the 3-4 hours daily for 20 years, but instead clips, where your value is not recognized and annoyances are amplified. (trust me, there were just as many complaints about Jimmy being annoying with Chip, Ant discussing politics and racism too much, and Opie not having a funny bone. The scales weren’t tilted at the time, but now these clips are out of context in terms of daily live radio, and only provide the funniest moments, which in return only highlights the unfunny people of the best humorous clips.) Alright if you read this far, I’m sorry for wasting your time. Also, I’m ready for the hate, and for people to misread the comment as if I said, “Opie is really funny and everyone is wrong about him! It was a special effects masterpiece especially for the time and it's a decent storyline overall. Some douchey dialogue of course but definitely an entertaining watch. Ant saying it's the worst movie ever, there are faaaaar worse movies out there and a healthy amount of them too
