Chris, Excellent series for the heater channels! I can't emphasize the importance of proper installation enough. I nearly died once in a 71' Super from CO poisoning. (passed out while driving and rammed a "Welcome to Virginia" sign) ~take care

Glad to see Zito Pereira's Pieces been used is the US. They are very well known here in Brazil. My bug doesn't have the heather channel because it was produced for the tropical area that's where I live, Nice serie Chris!

Yeah it is most likely the inlet hoses in the trunk where the gas gets poured in. They get moist as time goes on. Might have to replace those. let me know

I wish they'd make some of these fundamental panels, floor pans and heater channels out of stainless steel!!! But I suppose then we mess too much with the originality. Have you ever come across alternative materials to negate rot over there in the States Chris?

Using a torch fatigues the metal, only moisture is all it takes for it to rust away rapidly. That's why muffler shops use them... compromise the good pipe to get you back for more $$

Not really, you just have to treat them with a good rust prevention. Plus, these cars will be fair weather cars, they are not going to see the rain and snow.

Is it possible to replace sections of the heater channel without removing the body off the pan? The exit ports on the floor have been completely sealed by the previous owner. Thank you
@classicvwbugs7 жыл бұрын
depends where you are repairing, topside? Bottom side?

Chris Vallone well, the portion after the door (where the vent was) is all covered up.

If you use a plasma cutter, no other tool will do...they are awesome and faster than a torch...

I see this comment was six years ago, I'm a vw bug 1963 owner, look at Mike fn garage, here on KZfaq he has several tips and history with theses cars. 👍

Sounds like your evaporation system is faulty. 74 models had a complete emissions system. Could be a vent hose from the fuel tank is rotten. Or the evap cannister has plugged up. On my 71, it is located under the right rear fender. Good luck.

OMG!! you really screwed up a nice rare car! torch?? Im cringing...smh high end restoration shop my ass. Why would you show this to the public? Ive seen better work at the local "local body shop that use a tree as a frame machine.

Oh really? Well that car came out looking like this www.classicvwbugs.com/2013/03/28/1953-oval-window-vw-ragtop-euro-beetle-bug/ It also WON at the Greenwich CT Concours D' Elegance and was featured in Air Cooled magazines. Would a crap job win at a Concourse? Hell no, you would be lucky if it even got accepted. The car came out stellar in the end. Do some HW first.
