I remember hearing Tommy Emmanuel in a Sydney pub, play his reimagined version of Classical Gas almost 40 years ago now in the early 1980s. It was very inspiring to hear someone play a version that wasn't a carbon copy clone of the original. I always wondered what it would sound like if someone played a reimagined rendition of Tommy's version. It's taken me 40 years since then to find out, but it was worth the wait. This KZfaq guitar archive of guitar pieces created by Lucas will live forever. In years to come Lucas will be acknowledged just like Tommy, as being one of the greatest, most technically proficient and creatively original fingerstyle guitarists that has ever lived.

First time I've seen a cover of this song that nails the energy and nuance of Tommy Emmanuel's cover. This is one of the single best performances I've ever seen.

My Dad is a huge fan of Tommy's. I played your version for him and he was almost speechless throughout. His words " I can't believe it". Your ability, god given and self crafted, is incredible. Very well done.

Just. Wow. When I was a kid, seeing Mason Williams play Classical Gas on the The Smothers Brothers show made me want to play guitar. I always said that, if I learned to play Classical Gas smoothly, then I would answer the question, "Oh, you play guitar?" with something other than, "um, poorly". For some years now, I've said, "yes, I do". Now I've seen this, and I'm back to, "um, poorly".

Seen this 3 times now and am still blown away by the sheer level of skill. How on earth do you become this good. Every note and chord perfectly played and with such speed and dexterity up and down every inch of the fret board. A delight to watch.

This performance will be recognized for a very long time as one of the best if not the best of this song, no doubt! Absolutely out of this world!!

I guess that's about the most astounding performance on an acoustic guitar that I've ever seen. So many amazing things to say about it...like using every bit of the neck, standing up with the guitar with no strap attached and still continuing to play like that...surprisingly the guitar stayed in tune through such a vicious performance.....just wow.

I get a certain satisfaction from seeing and hearing someone play the guitar very differently than the way I do, in a way far superior than I will achieve - including in my own style. I’ve never appreciated a video more with every rewatch (dozens now, still true) more than I have this one. Everything onscreen is a performance and what a performance. If I’d have seen this guy when I was in my 20’s I’d have probably given up playing. Now I just appreciate him for someone of whom has mastered the instrument. He IS one of the very best I’ve seen.
