I agree. If given a dueling challenge by one of them, he could have at least equaled them if not surpassed them. Glen Campbell could do anything he put his mind to doing.

@@NancyM1115 It wasn't written for any show - the guy who wrote it (Mason Williams) was a writer FOR The Glen Campbell Show. He didn't write it for the show, it's on one of his albums. Generally regarded as a classical guitarist - had a crossover AM hit with it. Thought it was pretty well known, guess not.

Blue-collar Bostonians at the Garden for a Bruins’ game were ALSO stuffy people. It’s not like I don’t know - I’ve been - its a city where people take things (including themselves) seriously.

I was born and raised in the shadow of Boston on the South Shore. No, the Pops and its audience were not stuffy. They performed contemporary (at the time) music arranged for an orchestra. My parents were definitely not stuffy people and they loved going to the Pops. One of my life's regrets is that I never took them up on the offer to go with them to see Arthur Fieldler and the Boston Pops. I had no idea they were such a cultural institution. Such is the curse of youthful stupidity. There's probably a good chance my parents were at THAT show because that was in the right time period for their nights out at the Pops.

The typical Pops crowd would indeed be stuffy….and most would not be from Boston proper…but Newton, Brookline, Wellesley…Bruins fans are stuffy in a different way…

One of the best grass roots all American kid with incredible talent. His worst later years were a nightmare for him in Phoenix Arizona with a Sheriff named Joe Arpaio. He was arrested on a DUI, and Ol' Joe made him do concerts for the inmates. After that incident he left Arizona. You can see images of him being arrested on Google. Ol' Joe couldn't resist exposing him publicly with videos and photo posts of his arrest.

Saw Glen three times, the last being his farewell tour. He forgot the words but somehow kept playing. We all were silently rooting for him. Finally, the words came back, we cheered, and shortly after the performance ended. I am glad I went to hear him despite knowing what was before him. Seeing videos reminds me of happy times, but I will never forget how you could feel the audience silently saying, come on Glen, you can do it, and he did not disappoint. I watched as his daughter loving played by his side being his personal cheerleader. The rest of us just spectators of man whose gift from God was immense talent.

Grew up with Glen Campbell since I was 3. As Ace Frehley said, He's one of the Elder Rock Gods. Play this for and around today's kids, they'll get into it. I introduced my secretarie's 14 year old daughter to music by musicians like Mr. Campbell now she's calling today's "artists" posers.

I'm 57, and the first song I remember hearing from Glen Campbell as a little kid was the Jimmy Webb song "Galveston". His music was definitely part of my listening experience.

I'm not 90 and it would be a blessing to live to 90 years of age. My Dad is 97. Anyway, Pop still listens to all the great artists. Classical Gas is a gas indeed!

I wouldn't say, "arguably", either *Faded Blue Jeans*. I think UNDENIABLY would be a far better word to bring justice to Glen who was also UNQUESTIONABLY one of the greatest guitarists this world has ever known. RIP, Glen! You are sorely missed...

I didn’t know that he didn’t read music, it baffles me how performers remember how to play all the different songs at live concerts without music (if you can’t read it probably doesn’t matter). I’ve seen Chuck Berry, Hall & Oates, Springsteen & E Street Band, Queen, Elvis Costello, Steve Earle with & without the Dukes, Jackson Brown, Paul Weller amongst many others. I’m heading for 60 and think I could try and learn guitar, then I watch this 😂

Thank you for spelling Glenn correctly I was named Glen in 1962 due to the popularity of the name at the time. People ask me why only one 'n' instead of Glenn? First I was not worthy of having his exact name, one n was enough to complete a name for me. When I joke around about it I say " My Momma didn't st st st studder!" then appropriately change the subject. Phenomenal guitarist and performer, I watched his show on TV or anytime he was playing on others TV broadcasts including Hee Haw! Roy Clark and Buck Owen's pickin & grinin Glen made guest appearances all across the country with many different and famous people during the peak of his career.

From the very first time that I saw him on TV as a ten-year-old. He inspired me and made me feel happy joyful loved. I know for sure that God sent him there to be a salve for all of our hurts in life. Even though Jesus is supposed to do that for us, he allowed Glen Campbell to give that kind of love. Sometimes later in life he screwed up. But he was always a Christian.

It's funny how greatness recognizes other greatness, Campbell was no joke, his country bumpkin persona belied one of the greatest session guitarists of the 60s.

I find that to be a common misconception...he definitely was not underrated, especially among other musicians that understood his immense talent.

Glen was a renowned session man, had #1 records, movies, a TV show and toured almost to the end of his life. He got credit.

He’s known as one of the greatest guitarists ever, has 10 Grammy Awards, sold 45 million records, and is in the Country Music Hall of Fame, but somehow “never got the credit he deserved”?

Nunya Biz Glen WAS the best!!!!! If you do your research, you will find that he was the most sought after sessions players in L.A. Never read a piece of music, never learned to, but all he had to do was hear it once and he could not just play it, he played it with finesse. Yes, he could shred the living daylights out of a guitar!!! He has played for MANY of the top singers from Sinatra to Cash to Beach Boys and that is only a very tiny list. Elvis is another.

Musicians across ALL genres knew he could & he was in a class by himself in their eyes.

He is on the list an absolute underrated virtuosos not to mention a great vocalist r.I.p Mr. Campbell ur truly missed

So, I'm definitely not a "noob." What I meant was when these "lists" of American musicians are compiled, Glen rarely gets a mention, which IMHO, is total BS! RIP Mr Campbell. You are missed....

Glen was never an underrated guitar player. His guitar playing is on over 600 albums from the Monkees to Frank Sinatra.
