Love these old ballgames, in particular the ones from the late 70's thru the 80's. Good stuff!!!!

Grant Thompson I agree with you. Being a kid back in the 70’s, I love watching these games in particular because this era was when I became a baseball fan. I don’t even watch baseball these days. It’s not the same. I don’t like players fisting each other and I don’t like how they don’t let pitchers go the entire 9 innings. The game has changed. Some of the players today look like animals and they don’t take pride in their uniform. They’re sloppy. Their uniform pants go all the way down to their sneakers. It’s more of a money thing today. The players aren’t loyal to a team. To them, it’s just about money. To the owners, it’s all about high ticket prices and how much they can price gouge the fans. Most of the stadiums are empty. The owners make their money on network broadcasting of the game. It’s way too commercial and there is something fake about it.

Ron Luciano was delightful, if a little undisciplined as an announcer. What a shame it is how things turned out for him. Merle Harmon is a bit pushy. He keeps insisiting that Charlie Lau should be a manager; and when Bucky Dent (who joins them in the booth due to his injury) says that not everyone wants to manage, Harmon just dismisses Dent's comment.

I couldn't agree any less.......Luciano was the worst color commentator I've ever heard.....and I've heard Art Donovan on Wrestlemania back in the 80's, lol It's no wonder than soon after this period, NBC upgraded by getting Bob Costas, Joe Garagiola, and ultimately Vin Scully.
@FerdinandCesarano
@FerdinandCesarano 9 ай бұрын
@@furnitureconsortium - Of course Luciano is not in the class of other great colour commentators on NBC, such as Tony Kubek (when Joe Garagiola did play-by-play) or Garagiola (after the incomparable Vin Scully came in to do play-by-play). He also was not nearly as good as Tom Seaver, who succeeded Garagiola alongside Scully. But for me Luciano, while raw and often clumsy, added plenty of interesting commentary. He was not even close to the worst colour man I have heard. That distinction belongs to Bob Gibson and Norm Cash, each of whom filled that role during the disastrous first year of ABC's Monday Night Baseball in 1976 (before the network brought in Howard Cosell, Keith Jackson, and Don Drysdale the next year to save the project). Nothing Luciano ever did on the air was as bad as that mess. Listening to Luciano is not listening to a seasoned broadcaster. It's listening to a rambling mind, with so many great stories to tell. This was compelling at the time; given the tragic fate of this unusual and endearing person, it is heartbreaking in retrospect.

@@FerdinandCesarano I never knew his story (Luciano’s) and it IS pretty sad to read. Seemed like a nice guy with some funny stories to tell. Perhaps I was a bit too harsh with my initial criticism of him
