Hi so I learned the splits In less than a year so I'm gonna give you some tips! 1. Try the splits slowly I know it will hurt but it's worth it trust me! 2. Do the butterfly go as far to the floor as you can! 3. Stay healthy your diet really effects your strength and durability to hold the splits or and flexibility based pose are whatever you want to do!!! When do I do these? How long? Evey morning right after you wake up and right before bed everyday hold the poses for as long as you can but don't kill yourself in the process! 😓 Wish you the best!

Great. I like the emphasis on stability in the hamstrings stretch. Perhaps you can make another video along the lines of "how to get flexible if you are not able to do splits" :) I think the extensions series is a good start for that already, however, and will consider this as part 3. Consider working with someone as a demo who is not able to do splits yet. That will highlight specific challenges and ways to overcome them.

For those of you saying that this girl's already flexible yes she is, the number one thing I was taught in dance and still have to use as don't compare yourself to others just because a certain person is flexible does it mean that everyone Well be. If you do these exercises to at least what you're able to do each and every day you'll see drastic measures changed in your flexibility you also have to at least take yoga and pilates to do this to stay fit and much more, Don't use the I'm not flexible excuse you got to at lest try it , it's doing to hurt I'm not going to lie to you all .

Jayla Spivey I disagree. I only started dancing when I was 9, in 4th grade, and I was able to get all three of my splits down within a year. When I turned 10, I was already way more flexible than all of the dancers in my classes, most of which have been dancing since they were around 2. Keep in mind the fact that I’m not naturally flexible, it took a lot of hard work, but eventually I got all three of them down. The key to getting the splits is not how well you do them, it’s how much. Doing them for a couple minutes everyday, or honestly even every other day is enough. And make sure that you keep on stretching even after you get the splits. A lot of my dance friends had the splits but then lost them cause they never practiced. So yea, if you work hard enough, you’ll eventually get them, it might take some time, but the results are definitely worth it. Being flexible is really a huge advantage when it comes to dance. For me, I have higher grande battlements (a type of kick,) bigger leaps, etc.
@mchobbit2951
@mchobbit2951 4 жыл бұрын
@@jessicad5938 First off, you were child of 9 and growing children are naturally more flexible. Not everyone starts dance young. Second, if you started at age 9 and were more flexible than people who had six years of training on you within a year, you are naturally flexible to begin with. There ARE people that CANNOT do splits, period. It has something to do with their bodies. Just as some people are hyper flexible, others extremely inflexible. There is a limit to how far training can get these people and for some that means never being able to do splits.

I know this is for dancers, but I still love this channel and learning about ballet as a rhythmic gymnast. To me these stretches seem incredibly simple compared to our trainings😅 I know ballet doesn't require as much flexibility, but our teachers are like RIGHT GET YOUR 2 CHAIRS, YOUR LEGS SHOULD BE 270° AND OVER. BEND BACK SARAH! YOUR BUN SHOULD BE UNDER YOUR HIP! NO HANDS! 5 MINUTES! It's crazy to me that you aren't forced into oversplit every training😂 I don't have as much strength though, I'm working on it...

Flexibility is necessary as you get into more advanced training. It's not necessary when learning the basics because that's mainly learning technique, but after that it absolutely is necessary for when you're trying to get high extensions and work on ability.

Totally... always do the less flexible side and hold for at least 3 minutes.. or work up to three minutes plus because the muscle fascia will only stretch after 3 minutes.. usually. Yoga stretches offer balance in the body.. eg you want your hamstrings to be as flexible as your Quads..
@clray123
@clray123 4 жыл бұрын
It's definitely not true that you need 3 minutes. If anything, 3 minutes is a very long period which can overstretch and hurt you. Most asanas in Ashtanga yoga are held for just 5 breaths. Basically, these passive stretching techniques shown here are not healthy. The stretching should come not from gravity/weight or someone else applying force, but from active reaching movement and be paired with strength training of the supporting muscles (which is the case in properly executed yoga or contortion exercise). Of course, ballet/dance teachers don't really care, and the students end up injured fairly often.

Can you do tutorials for adults just starting ballet? That would be absolutely amazing, and would totally round out your channel. I know there’s a lot of us adults out there that have always wanted to study/dance ballet as a child but circumstances prevented that. Having an amazing instructor like you motivating us and teaching us would mean so much!

It's so annoying for me as well, I don't have that problem with my knees, I don't know how to explain, it's like...when I stand in parallel my knees have a bump on the inside and because of that, when I stand in 3rd position it looks like they are bent but they aren't, my teacher tells me to straighten them when I'm trying as hard as I can!!

@@LegallyBoopy Um the people most likely to watch a video like this are ballet BEGINNERS or people wanting to start ballet. In all honestly, do you think higher level ballet students, who know how to stretch and have teachers helping with all this stuff already, watch this? You think every beginner can do splits already, let alone people who are only considering ballet? Videos like this are actually discouraging if anything, because it makes it seem as if you already have to be able to BE flexible to BECOME flexible. I can see teenage girls who would love to dance ballet see this and be scared off because they cannot do this stuff already (when most people can't without any training, including kids).

Holding stretches for a minute or longer? I'm confused... I've been told that holding stretches for longer than 30 seconds increases your risk of injury. Even a dance physician told me that! Since I'm also a dance teacher now, I wanna do what's best for my students, but sometimes it's really hard to figure out what's true, because there often are equally qualified people with totally different views on topics like stretching, working with hyper-extension, turnout etc..

Violet Heroine If you stretch for less than thirty seconds then your muscles will still limber up but you won’t increase your flexibility. It is true that if you aren’t warm and hold stretches you can injure yourself though. Hope this helps! X

The key to touching your toes, for even a second, is just to keep doing it even when it hurts. Like Claudia said, your legs will hurt and get numb, and then they will just let you go down. It really works. If you go down for two seconds and give up, then it's never gonna happen. Don't give in!💜
