Apparently you fail to understand the difference between sloppy editing of a dissertation and plagiarism. There was no question because it was admitted that some citations were left out and that can happen as people are human and make mistakes. Yet, not picking these citation gaffes out in the editing process of the dissertation is sloppy work. This is definitely not plagiarism but rather an inattentiveness to details in the editing process of a dissertation.

In her op-ed she says: “My critics found instances in my academic writings where some material duplicated other scholars’ language, without proper attribution…. When I learned of these errors, I promptly requested corrections,” implying that it was accidental. This is an outright lie. There are several instances where she quotes an entire paragraph from someone’s book or article and then changes one or two minor words to try to turn it, technically, into a paraphrase rather than plagiarism. This is CLEAR evidence of the intent to plagiarize. When plagiarism is accidental, you quote the entire material intact. You DO NOT change one or two minor words in the middle of it.

In her tenure she got a brilliant black professor cancelled - probably because people like her cannot stand to be surrounded by brilliance (plagiarists are often plagued by envy). People need to see beyond the facade of ‘humility’ and nice-ness such people present to the festering envy and entitlement they carry. It takes a person without shame to steal another’s work. It takes someone heartless and cruel even, to deliberately profit over another’s sweat. Her writing a letter the day after and re-phrasing what plagiarism is, while throwing barbs at others shows what a mean streak she has, and I do hope people can see how terrible it must have been to have this person as a leader. It’s disappointing, and actually frightening, that she doesn’t seem to see that she did anything wrong whatsoever other than a couple of minor mistakes. Instead, she pulls out the victim card. And I am afraid that her attitude of arrogant denial likely reflects that of the Harvard Corporation in general. Harvard’s perspective, to summarize it, is this: “Sure, 85% of our faculty identify as liberal, and only 1.5% as conservative, because we don’t tolerate conservative viewpoints like being against Hamas. But there’s nothing skewed about that because we are simply right, and everyone we know thinks like us. Being liberal is being neutral. Conservatism is extreme. And anyone who disagrees with this is racist, bigoted, far-right, and an attacker of the truth.”

You know what gets me about all of this? All she had to do was sit in that seat in the congress and say that Anna semitism and advocating genocide is unacceptable at Harvard and she'd still have her job. This is how inured somebody like her is to her political views. She lost her job over it.

How dare she play the racial defense and try and change the subject. There was no trap. She just gave an absurd answer. As far as plagiarism goes, she simply plagiarized. It should be up to a committee in her field to determine whether that was serious or not. All I have to say is every plagiarist says "oh I forgot the quotation marks" when caught. Fell into a "well-laid trap"... which anyone who had an interest in diversity of thought, opinion and speech would have seen coming, because it would have been part of active discourse in the faculty, at the Board, student council etc. She was caught unawares because she has no idea of the range or depth of views which are not her own. And that myopia is a latent risk, now made manifest, that the Board should have been all over.

Here’s her future op Ed “ Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth, upon this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived, and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives, that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this..”

The whole debacle in front of Congress is what happens when you get a group of smug intellectuals together with attorneys who want to parse words very precisely. They concocted answers designed to stand up in the courtroom and as a 1st amendment defense. The problem however is that it wasn't a courtroom and they weren't being asked for a scholarly and legalistic response. They were being asked for a moral response and could not provide any. They failed to understand the forum and the nature of the question. They did however, reveal a lot about their character, or lack therof.

Isn’t their job to protect ALL students and not one group claiming another group is calling for genocide. It’s still unclear WHAT the nature of these comments were? The “River to the sea” chant isn’t an explicit call for genocide of Jews. Reclaiming land that was taken does not equate to genocide. Jews and Arabs, and other all lived in Palestine prior to 1948.
