This is a walkthrough video showing how Cal Anderson Park and the former CHOP protest zone looks about a week or so after it was dismantled. The City of Seattle has been doing a lot of pressure washing and painting in this area lately.

I hope that the police will reassure businesses in the chop zone to resume business by having a strong presence in the area, and encourage people from different backgrounds to talk to each other without fear. If the police can show the locals that they are for restoring the community, without friction, it would help.

John Mongani Why don’t you guys fight slavery that is going on currently? Slavery is a horrible thing that everyone agrees should not exist. When you try to get reparations for slavery that happened before all of us were born, it seems like you’re just trying to get money. There are real slaves today in other countries, and nobody is fighting for them.

I've been critical of the state and city for 'allowing' the chop zone to be established. But logistically it's not that simple, now that I've thought more about it. The mayor has to weigh the risk to officers, as well as possible casualties to protesters, which could even lead to genocide in the extreme. Not knowing how many protesters, or how heavily armed they are makes it a very difficult operation. Or even if they do know, and it turns out they're heavily armed and outnumber the cops. And where to jail them, if they outnumber the jails. Plus it happened so fast. Maybe better to wait them out and plan carefully how to extricate the protesters peacefully. Like going after hostage-takers. It's actually commendable that it ended up with no fatalities between the protesters and police in the end.

I love all these comments from people who have probably never been to Cal Anderson. I have walked through there nearly every day for years. The courts have always looked like that. The layers of graffiti are so thick and old that they are embedded in the surface. that cop you talked to obviously had never been there before. This is it's former state. The pool was disgusting, a brown yellow goop that had an office chair in it for months because nobody would go into the slime to get it. At least half of the square rocks on the river had been knocked off, the falls rarely ran and when they did a yellow scum frothed up. The pump house has been painted grey for years. It was not bare stone before. The field was dirty. It was super dangerous at night. Last year there were shootings, one resulting in death. A woman was stabbed to death. This was with the East Precinct open one block away. They never patrolled the area. Videos like this are misleading. Yeah, CHOP added more graffiti, but it wasn't some pristine paradise before. It was, is, and always will be a vibrant busy city park.

It’s a shame about the stone building in Cal Anderson Park...The fact it had to be painted grey (because it couldn’t be cleaned) is kind of a bummer....kinda takes away from its aesthetic. It looked much nicer when it was natural stone :( sans graffiti. Bummer, but they did the best they could I guess.

For everyone complaining about the graffiti, remember it could have been worse. I am sure the Minneapolis business owners who have to rebuild wish it was only the graffiti they were dealing with.
@Inkling777
@Inkling777 4 жыл бұрын
Quite true. The damage done in Minneapolis runs into the hundreds of millions. Some businesses will go bankrupt. Others will leave, never to return. The once-nice Minneapolis will have to spend huge sums to repair the damage and do so on a smaller tax base. We need to make sure that the rest of us aren't made to pay for the failures of the city's leadership. This was no natural disaster. It was manufactured from the top down. Let the top pay.

Here’s a documentary that shows Floyd and Chauvin and the club they were working in are all tied to Hamas. Most of the building burned were owned by the same person. I'm so angry. It's like a hostile takeover. I'm not angry at the homeless but the activists who are weaponizing them and the BLM cause. The Parks and Rec department wants the part to now become a homage to BLM. The park was great before. Given the open hostility I've seen from BLM I resent my park being taken over as a political propoganda park in their honor.
