Auto parts stores are my go-to for fuses locally. If they're a weird size or value, call up your local guitar amp technician. A good tech will sell you spare parts for very cheap, but still at a nice markup to make it worth his or her time. Get in good with your local guitar amp tech. They are a valuable resource for those of us who are fixing up old garbage all the time.

Went and picked up one last night after watching this video. $10 for all cables with controller & memory card is not bad at all! Thanks for the tip. Also, really digging the quality of this video. Are you using an LED lamp to give you that nice, bright shot?

Great video showing which parts must be unplugged in order to get under layers. But on my PS1 model 1002 (the European 1001) I had to unplug the powercable-connector from the right. And I definitely had a much harder time unplugging, than just snap click like in this video! Connectors were like if they were stuck! So I advice everyone to be careful! I broke off a piece from my Optical Drive-connector...

The laser cable on these early units actually uses a locking tab - this tripped me up a bit first time too.

@rurrywis
@rurrywis 7 жыл бұрын
of course it is imported,dunno where its origin. But I got my PSX from an ordinary electronic store in my town. Well, the lens is also very good in durability, since I hard to find original CD game in my country, so that more than 60% my game collection is copy CD. And when I was kid, I play in average for about 6 hours a day.

Still have my Playstation 1 with the compsite/rca that i got as a kid. However i put it aside after it started having problems reading disks, and i have to play with it upside down to make it work :P Wondering if there is a way to fix that laser track or if i have to replace the entire laser/drive assembly.
@SpeedDudeGTX
@SpeedDudeGTX 9 жыл бұрын
You can adjust the laser counter clockwise to make the laser brighter.Or you can replace it with a Slim PSOne laser and take a Phillips percision screwdriver and swap out the top cover. Unclip the ribbon cable. And also clip back in the ribbon cable and put the original black cover on and screw it back in. And i would also recommend adjusting the laser brightness on the Slim PSOne laser too. It'll read your games even better.

Great video! I still have my gray console, and a quick check reveals it to be the SCPH-7001 model. I think that's pretty standard. A couple of years ago, I picked up a PS One because it was cheap, complete, cute, and I had an extra space on my last composite splitter. I had to take it apart and give it and its controller a thorough cleaning, but it works perfectly.

My friend who works in a games store in the UK got an original Playstation (with RCA jacks) given to him. Some guy wanted to trade it in, but they didn't take original Playstations anymore so the guy just left it. My friend ended up giving it to me, and its tucked away under my bed. Didn't realise they were highly sought after...

its crazy how much of a beast it was back in the day and for the price? man, what a sweet deal then the games cam pouring in and it was a juggernaut. I got me an my brothers old original, very sentimental, but a few years ago i picked up the sought after original original, manufactured same year or within some months of the release. Has all the ports, i decided to buy it just for fun and to own. I dont game with physical media on ps1 much and sold off most of the collection bcz of emulation but man ohh man. This grey beast and the start up sounds give me more chills than ANY other console out there. Snes nintendo ding, ps2, ps3, dreamcast, gamecube whatever. Ps1 is so damn ingrained in my mind, i will always consider the absolute best console there is. #2 is the snes.

im not an audiophile but i still just dont understand why those certain ppl go ape shit for those ps1's, at least in recent years, theres no reason to as there is no way a 1995 ps1 can produce better audio quality than something made today. Thats just moronic to think that. Besides it has to be a dedicated cd player, of which noone uses these days. Its all digital.

+DjStiv3 Bear in mind that audio is subjective. Some people like the Beats by Dr. Dre sound signature and others prefer the "organic" sound signature of a tube amplifier while many could care less. It's the entire reason why Vinyl LPs are still sold. Newer does not necessarily equal better when it comes to subjective things like audio. Tube Amplifiers and Vinyl Records are older than the Solid State Amplifiers and Digital Files that replaced them, but some prefer their sound. Personally, while I've never used the PlayStation 1 as a CD player, many claim that Model SCPH-1001 is capable of very accurate sound reproduction in terms of depth even when compared to players sold today for exponentially more all while retaining the "organic" sound of a more analogue source, and others have modified it to make it even more accurate while maintaining that sound signature. So while "better" may be subjective, if that's the sound you're going for, the PlayStation 1 SCPH-1001 could be for you.
