Cleaning my van's wood stove chimney - Throwback Chevy: "Chim-chimney, chim-chimney, chim-chim cheree, a chimsweep's as lucky, as lucky can be". Michael Coughlan pulls a Dick Van Dyke on the roof of his '85 Chevy G20! Disney film references aside, Michael shows you how he cleans his chimney/flue pipe to maintain safety and improve performance. As part of Throwback Chevy's ongoing 'Winter in a Van' series, we capitalize on some mild mid winter weather in Canada to illustrate this procedure.

Excellent video , big thumbs up! If anyone wants to sound like Dick Van dyke just say "Maori Parpens". As a English man , Dicks "mockney" (Fake cockney) accent always had us laughing as kids when "Mary Poppins" was on.

Always suspected those folks in the UK would be suspicious of ol' DVD's vocal interpretation of overseas dialect.

Some US actors can pull of a British accent, unfortunately DVD wasn't one of them. However he is affectionately loved by the British, particularly for the fact that his British accent is so ludicrously awful. :D

I wonder if you use carb cleaners to clean it?

I just use the brush, but who knows? Would carb cleaners help? Anyone? Maybe I need carb cleaning from the carb intake from my beer! lol.

worth a shot. I just have cleaned car intakes before and carb cleaner rips through carbon build up. so I think it would work, like on the cap of your pipe. But on the other hand as it dissolved the carbon it is a liquid, so doing it down the pipe might make a mess in the stove with liquid carbon. maybe first put a bucket in the stove to catch the liquid? My set up will be easier because i built my stove myself from a charcoal grill and my pipe is easy to take apart and clean outside. but as I'm installing it in my van I wonder what i should do at the roof.... I see in your other video you got a wood panel ceiling, i do as well. i got like 1 inch of insulation spray foamed in between the wood panel and the sheet metal of the roof. Its a 1977 van i bought used and someone already foamed the inside. Im wondering what to do where I put the pipe through the roof thinking the hot pipe might melt or catch fire on the foam or the panel. What did you do. looks like you have a thicker pipe right at the roof? Maybe i should just remove the foam around that area anyway, but still wondering exactly when going through the roof if the area around the hole is in danger and how you rigged this part with your friend.

jha shua Yes, I have a separate pipe segment (just 3 or 4 inchess), which is a larger diameter piece, around the main pipe to create a cooling air barrier as the chimney goes through my roof. Thanks for watching!
