Hello. Should I every time put off cables from spectra? I pump 5-6 time per day and I only assamble flanges and bottles every time. But tubes and backflows are fixed. Is it dangerous?
@DoneNaturally
@DoneNaturally Жыл бұрын
The parts we wash come into contact with the milk or our breasts. The tubes carry air and do not come into contact with our milk or breasts. Nor do the backflow protectors. If they do appear to have milk in them, they can be disassembled and washed and dried.

Yes for micro preemies you can’t use this “hack” - not for any baby that’s remains impatient. Sterilization is only needed before the very first use. Other than that sanitizing is all we recommend. When putting pump parts in the fridge when at work (ziplock bag) is it ok to keep re using the flanges that touch my body with out rinsing ?
@DoneNaturally

The only thing that has touched the flanges is your body and your milk. Your own germs. If I was you, yes I would do it without worry. I mean I think about how often I wash my water bottle I carry with me everywhere and drink out of every day. And human milk is quite literally an antibacterial.

most efficient way to clean my pump parts at work? i work at a daycare and want the spectra S1. I am hearing mixed reviews on your tip about putting pump parts in the fridge, as it’s unsanitary because the milk is sticky and it could lead to bacteria growth. is this true?
@DoneNaturally
@DoneNaturally 2 жыл бұрын
Human milk is an antibacterial fluid itself. It’s very difficult for bacteria to grow in a antibacterial environment. In fact studies have shown that freshly expressed milk has less bacteria in it after sitting out than compared to immediately after expression. The mighty cells that kill bacteria, in human milk, go to work after expression. I’m not sure what you mean by human milk is sticky tho.

@DoneNaturally

I would not use it for a premature baby. With babies who are immune Compromised, premature or ill, following the “rules”, crossing our t and dotting our i is best. When I was working in the NICU with babies aged like yours, we recommended washing all parts with warm soapy water and air drying after each and every use. It’s a lot of cleaning I know. But best practice for these sweet early peanuts. ♥️

Sterilizing and sanitizing are 2 different things. Sterilizing is only needed one time before first ever use. After that, only sanitizing (aka cleaning) is needed. I can’t imagine chemicals leached into your milk. Formula has opportunities for chemicals, parasites, bacteria and (even been recalled for rocket fuel found inside)…so I’m sure your milk remains the safest option for baby.

@DoneNaturally Ай бұрын
Correct. You do not need to sterilize except before the very first use. In the NICU, health even the instructions are to wash with hot soapy water after each use. And that’s for immune compromised babies and preemies. A full term healthy baby that’s home it’s my opinion, and many, that doing the fridge hack is safe. Human milk is safe in the fridge for up to 8 days (ABM Protocol #8). So if human milk is safe for 8 days in the fridge and the only thing on the pump parts is your milk, then those too are safe in the fridge, in a covered container and not rinsed beforehand bc water introduced more germs). With the fridge hack - I recommend washing once every 24 hours.
@sabreen45

CDC does not recommend in refrigerating anymore. Anyone that still refrigerate their parts?
@DoneNaturally
@DoneNaturally Жыл бұрын
Almost everyone that’s home with a full-term, non-immune compromised baby. Common sense. Human milk is safe a room temp immediately after being expressed for up to 8 hours. The only thing that is on your pump parts is human milk. Human milk is safe in the refrigerator for up to 8 days. AAP also came out and made a statement late 2021 that all temperatures of human milk may be combined. Placing pump parts in the fridge between pump sessions, is no different.
