I got the Cobra Wolf this Christmas and I remember you making a video about cleaning the stickers. I'm so glad you did because now I can go back and clean all the dirt and grime that collects around those stickers.

Kevin, yes, surprisingly it has, I removed it from the peroxide soak 12 hrs ago, it firmed back up.

I've recently been using a product called PlastX for cleaning canopies. It's real purpose is cleaning headlight lenses and can be found at an automotive store. Use a microfiber cloth and apply it to the canopy, working it in and buffing it. I've done several vehicles now, and while it won't get out the deeper scratches, it will give you incredible results. Takes the clouding right away. Stuff is only like six bucks. I highly recommend it if you want your collection to look its best.

Kevin, I recall asking about using peroxide on canopies, that have yellowed. I aquired a bunch of spare GI Joe parts. I used 30 percent hydrogen peroxide on it. The yellowing did clear up, but, the plastic softened a bit.

Yes, I was afraid of that. I know clear plastic reacts badly to chemicals in a way that solid colored plastics don't. I wonder if your canopies will harden back over time?

Kevin, I've found this video very helpful! Great job, the Arizona heat isn't kind to decals. The technique using peroxide, does that work on clear plastic? Such as vehicle canapies?

I've never used Hydrogen Peroxide on clear plastic before. Clear plastic has a different reaction to chemicals, so I'm not sure if it'd be safe. This is just another thing I'll have to try when I do my "Canopy Cleaning Repair Tips" video :)

Hey formbx257. What do you recommend for cleaning clear plastic canopies like the Hiss canopy for example?
@formbx2577 жыл бұрын
I use an automotive buffing cloth (which is just a really rough cloth with no chemicals on it). Some collectors use automotive headlight scratch cleaner liquid (which usually comes with a buffing cloth) - but I haven't tried this yet.

Kevin, The cape on my Dr. Mind Bender has curled under. Would it be safe to iron and starch it on a low setting? The emblem is the printed variation.
@formbx2577 жыл бұрын
If you're going to iron the cape, wet it with regular water and place a cloth over it. To straighten my cape I used warm water and placed it between two heavy books for a day... but mine wasn't curled too bad to begin with.

I tried your method first, and it worked very well. Thank you!

Kevin, are stickers available on the after-market?
@formbx2577 жыл бұрын
CobraStickers, TFKingdom and RattlerRepros all make good quality repro stickers. CobraStickers are computer generated and may be inaccurate in size and font, but they are pre-cut. RattlerRepros are scanned from original sheets, but variety is limited and you have to cut them out yourself. I've never tried TFKingdom - they have an even smaller variety since they focus on Transformers stickers.

Kevin, the glue you are using, is that a type of superglue?
@formbx2577 жыл бұрын
No, one is a clear-drying all-purpose glue and the other is a clear-drying rubber cement.

Thank you! I will pick some up, I'm glad I asked.

Maintaining originals is noble and there is a certain quality to them to last over 30 years. But, how do you feel about reproductions?
@formbx2578 жыл бұрын
As long as the reproductions are accurate to the originals, I'm fine with them. CobraStickers and RattlerRepros produce some fine stickers, but sometimes the sizes and letter fonts are wrong. Most sellers say whether they've used repro stickers and they still sell for full price.

is there a place to get replacement stickers?
@formbx2578 жыл бұрын
CobraStickers.com and RattlerRepros.com Cobra Stickers has a huge variety and the stickers are pre-cut, but computer generated. Rattler Repros uses scans of original sticker sheets, but you have to cut them out yourself. I've used both.

TFKingdom.com also does several repro GI Joe stickers. They're mainly aimed at Transformers decals, TF toys and some other product lines, but they have a decent Joe section from 82-90 plus some emblem sheets. Strangely, no HISS or HISS II sheets are available, but I did ask them and they indicated they'll hopefully be selling those in the near future- though they do have individual HISS number sheets for those with multiple tanks. I'll share my overall experiences, I'm not fully endorsing them one way or the other since I wouldn't say things are perfect. They are US-based, their prices are generally cheaper than the Toyhax brands and they have free shipping on sticker sheets. In terms of quality, I haven't used too many of their sheets but they're generally decent. The TF decals can fluctuate depending on the material used(their basic silver looks a bit flat to me, but their Minibots set is perfect shiny material) and they sometimes don't do factory-applied stickers which can be annoying as I found when trying to redo an Ultra Magnus. Joe decals are printed on clear vinyl, I've got a few Cobra emblems and they're nice and clear, and of a better quality than some of the more recent Hasbro-made sheets I've used. I can't say how accurate the proper repro sheets are since I haven't compared any of them, though, nor did I really think to compare any of the TF decal sheets I used. Generally they ship in 1-2 days but I did have to "remind" them about an order a few months back that got hung up for unknown reasons. They also had to shut down due to flooding a couple months ago but they doubled quantities on pending orders to make up for it. I like them enough to not pay the extra that Reprolabels/Cobrastickers wants, just keep in mind that their selection is rather limited by comparison since they don't do anything 91 or after, and they really need to get the HISS sets up for sale.
