In this video I demonstrate and explain how to remove and clean the Carburetor on a Toro 928 OHXE.
Although this was done on a Toro 1300 Snow Series engine, the same procedure applies across many different makes and models.
If you have any questions, please feel free to leave them in the comment section down below as I would be more than happy to answer them!

I used you video to clean my Toro 724 qxe carburetor. The only step I didn't see in your video was removing the spring on the linkage, but I did it without any problem. Now it starts on the first try. Thank you!!

I want to thank you so so much! We got 21 inches on Long Island and my new snowblower, which I left gas in it over the season didn't start. I checked out videos and came across yours, so detailed and I did it all by myself. I googled what I could use instead of carburetor cleaner and used 50 to 50 % white vinegar and alcohol. Put it back together and said a prayer. OMG. it started! Thank you and God Bless

Now that is a well thought out design Toro has engineered to get at the carburetor. Some machines are an engineered nightmare. Snow blowers don't have air filters, so if you do use gasoline with 10% ethanol and forget to empty the float bowl while in storage, moisture can more easily find its way into the carburetor and cause corrosion and blockage of jets and tiny orifices. Sea Foam works well to keep carburetors clean. I use it year-round in all my outdoor power equipment fuel. If possible, use ethanol free fuel. It does cost more, but in the long run, it is well worth it. Ethanol in fuel absorbs moisture. Not good for outdoor carbureted equipment stored during the off season. Great video, it defiantly shows Toro engineers designed the carburetor for easy access. That was a nice thing you did for your neighbor. I am sure she really appreciated your kindness.

I added seafoam to my fuel. I cleaned my carburetor for the first time and it’s still surging a bit. Do you think seafoam will fix my surging over time?
@russellmaddock3492
@russellmaddock3492 6 ай бұрын
@@user-ng9sv6rv6t Some carburetors have an idle jet under the black plastic idle screw. If yours is one of those carburetors make sure you take it out and clean the tiny hole in the jet. If you have done that already and also cleaned the main jet and emulsion tube and you still have surging, be sure you don't have a vacuum leak due to a bad gasket. According to Sea Foam, you can mix it as strong as 50/50 for extra cleaning of the carburetor. Make sure your fuel is fresh fuel when mixing with Sea Foam for best results. To answer your question if Sea Foam will fix your surging over time? It should, as long as your surging is not due to a vacuum leak. Some replace the carburetor with an aftermarket one. I have had mixed results with aftermarket carburetors. Some good, some not so good. Wish you the best with your surging carburetor.

Thanks for the vid. I have a Toro 621 qze, similar setup as the one you worked on. I didn't removed the carb. Instead I removed the plastic housing and this gave me better access to the cap, Bolt and the long inner pipe. I couldn't see though bolt pin hole ( clogged ). I also noticed the inner sleeve has smaller pin holes and half were clogged. I soaked both in carb cleaner for about 30 minutes then blasted them with carb cleaner and compressed air. The holes came out clean. Reassembled and the machine runs like new. Thanks again, saved me $$ from having it serviced.

My Toro 826 OXE that I used for just 1 winter would recently start roughly and then die shortly after. Tried Sea Foam hoping it would magically fix it and it didn't (I was lazy). Then I did exactly what you did in this video (carburetor is the same) and it worked! Actually, the 1st few times I tried to start after cleaning it was still rough and died quickly, not sure why, so I had lost hope... But I gave it another shot 15 minutes later and it finally worked well! So thanks for your video, it's great!

Saved my hide today with a dead snowblower. I took the bowl off and sprayed some carb cleaner on most of the bits. Changed the gas and checked the spark. Bone dry in the combustion chamber. Came back here to see how to properly clean a carb. Sure enough, I wasnt thorough enough. Took the jet out of the stem with a screwdriver (thanks for the word of caution about sensitive brass parts!) and sure enough, the back side of it was completely clogged. It came alive on first pull but still doesnt like anything less than 50% choke. Thoughts?
@everythingmechanical4638

Glad I could help! If your snowblower doesn't like to run without choke, the engine is running lean meaning it's not getting enough fuel. I would check to make sure that the main jet is completely clean and the carburetor is making a good seal against the engine where it mounts (check the gasket for any rips or replace it)

@@everythingmechanical4638 Despite making the majority of the snow blower, Toro does not make the engine. Loncin Holdings, a power equipment manufacturer in China, produces all of Toro’s engines, including the ones in snow blowers. The HD line of snow blowers from Toro are commercial grade engines and are built to last longer while delivering impressive torque and HP along with good fuel efficiency. Nearly all snow blower manufactures now use engines made overseas. One must also understand that these manufactures have certain requirements such as reliability, ease of starting, fuel economy, torque and HP and even noise level requirements. Companies like Ariens, Toro and MTD have their reputations at stake, so not just any engine will due. The days of B&S, Kohler and Tecumseh engines made here in the USA are pretty much over. Some special built commercial engines are still produced in America, but most now are manufactured overseas. Reliability, torque and power are what really matters in outdoor power equipment. In my research there haven't been many engine failures due to poor manufacturing. Most engine failures are due to improper maintenance. Yearly oil changes with a quality engine oil are the key to a long-lasting snow blower engine. I personally use Toro 4 cycle 5w30 snow blower engine oil. Toro don't make the oil, but like there engines the oil has to meet certain 4 cycle small engine requirements. The same goes for Ariens and MTD engine oil. Hope this helps.

It should be fine as long as the O ring that goes around the bowl hasn't stretched to the point where it won't fit back on. It really just depends on how much you got on it. Either way these parts are very inexpensive, and can be found in a carburetor rebuild kit where you can get all new jets and everything. Let me know if this helps!

Hi, I am facing same issue I left gas in tank and now its not starting. I will follow ur instructions. Can u answer below: What we should do when winter is over, do we need to drain out all gas and put some stabiliser in it or what ? 2. Do we need to use regular gas or premium gas in snow blower ? Mine is toro dual stage auger bought new 2021
@everythingmechanical4638
@everythingmechanical4638 Жыл бұрын
When the winter is over, you should always winterize your equipment. This means draining all the fuel out of the fuel tank and carburetor, or even just running it out of gas. If your machine has a fuel shutoff you can add fuel stabilizer, then turn the fuel off and run the machine out of gas. Your machine should just use regular gas but if you can find it, ethanol free fuel wont go bad and will prevent any of these issues going forward. You also shouldn't need to winterize it if your using entanol free fuel

Just remove the spark plug, attach the plug wire and set it on the machine so that the metal threads on the spark plug are touching metal on the engine. That way its grounded. Then, use the electric starter or pull cord to crank the engine over and look for a spark inside the gap at the end of the spark plug. Let me know if you have any more questions!

Use a pair of pliers to squeeze the clamp and slide it upwards. Then try to pull the fuel line off. If it doesn't come off you can use pliers to lightly try and twist the fuel line at the base just to break it free. Then you should be able to pull it off. If it's really old and cracked its a good idea to replace that too, don't use it if it's leaking.

FYI: A brand-new carb can likely be had for about $25 on Amazon. In my opinion, replacing it altogether is a better option than rebuilding an old one. When I do carb work on motorcycles, I replace any clogged jets with new, because unclogging them isn't worth my time. This past spring, I had a string line trimmer that would no longer idle on its own after sitting for some time. I replaced the carb with a brand-new Walbro unit, to the tune of about 20 bucks and called it a day! Cheers!

Sorry, but i gave you a thumbs down. Your carb cleaning was fine and could have received a thumbs up if only for one reason. Whenever you have a carburetor needing repair, whether cleaning or parts replaced, you should ALWAYS clean all gas lines and TOTALLY clean (blowout) the gas tank. The gas you poured from the bowl was terrible looking. Therefore you may have it running well at this time but without completing the process you are asking foe additional trouble sooner than if done fully. If i had to rate your carb cleaning i would have possibly gave it a thumbs up, however, even at this alone it’s always better to verify the primary orifice (jet) and secondary offices (jets) are clean. Doing this it’s best to use wire as found in a welding tip cleaning set. My comments are not meant to be destructive but since folks look to KZfaq as training videos i felt you needed this input. Thanks for understanding.
