I haven't been able to get my snowblower past the second click on the choke for several years which meant I was hardly getting any power out of my machine. My son and I worked on it today using your video and it seems like it's working like new. Now we just need some snow to test it out on... 🤣 Thanks so much for the great, easy to follow video!

Today I finished cleaing the carb on the same make / model in the video. I was not in a hurry, and it was a beautiful day here, so I took my time. A couple hours later, it started on the first pull. Thanks for the video. It's surprising that so few people have watched it. I watched the video serveral times before tearing into the machine. I was a little anxious, as it is not my snow blower, but all is well now, and thanks so much for the help. You Rock!!!

J.B, This is the best step by step how to clean your carb video I've seen a a long time!! You explain everything perfectly as your doing it. Most channels that show how to do it flap off at the lips for an and don't really explain it. I know how to work on all small engines but for the people who don't this video was awesome my friend!!! Can't wait for the videos with the monster lake effect you guys just had. Be safe and stay warm good sir

Hello there Garage Gear! I was really hoping you could give me some advice. After coming across your channel today, I think you'd be one of the best people to ask. Funny enough, I also live in the Buffalo area. I moved up hear about 2 years ago (this is my 3rd winter here - 2nd with house instead of an apartment), and I have a pretty unique situation/predicament regarding snow removal from my driveway and walkways. I moved up here from Texas to care for my father, who is wheelchair bound. I am still learning about how to properly handle snow in general, let alone meet the needs of a person who needs to get through the snow in a manual wheelchair. The previous owners of my house also had a relative living with them who was wheelchair bound. They gave me the number of a snowplow guy who they said they used during their few years in this house. My experience last year with the plow guy, was that it'd leave a pretty decent layer of packed down snow/ice - which could be walked over and driven through. But the major issue is that I cannot push my Dad through even a thin layer of packed down snow and ice. We can only move his chair if we can see the pavement. Last year I just ended up chipping away a path with an ice-breaker tool all the time, leaving the majority of the rest of my driveway looking pretty bad and lumpy with packed down snow and ice. Plus chipping away at that stuff was really tough work that tore up my back. Even for a young 27 year old guy like myself. So as you obviously know, we had that major snow storm last weekend. I hastily signed a contract with a new snow plow guy that our last guy recommended, since he retired. I was hoping the packed down snow was an issue with the old guy's plow. Plus the new plow guy said that packed down snow was just an issue of the type of snow, and salting the driveway regularly. I don't know if I believe that now. Since the stuff the guy plowed during this storm, got packed down immediately, and a lot of it to ice. I had to do the same thing as last year and chip away a path for my dad to get to the garage so he can get in the car when we need to travel. I noticed however, that when shoveling the ramp to the front door, if was very powdery and there as no packed down snow to chip away at, at all. I came to your channel to see what would be the a good snowblower to buy (since I've been too stupid to purchase one by now, thinking a plow guy would suffice), and trying to figure out if a snowblower would even cut through the packed down snow and ice that the plow guy will leave every morning. I'm also wondering if a snowblower would damage a metal wheelchair ramp. I've seen things such as snow power broom, and I'm curious if that would solve the issue of the packed down snow - but I doubt it would cut through ice. I have also been trying to salt as much as possible since that big snow fall - but it doesn't seem to have much of an effect. After seeing my neighbors with their very clear driveways where pavement is visible throughout - I'm worried I made a big mistake with signing a 600 dollar contract with a plow guy. I'm starting to think that the plow is leaving a layer of packed down snow that causes me more problems than solves - and that even a snow blower won't get through that packed down stuff, and I won't be able to cancel a contract with the plow guy. If you could just give me advice if weather a snow blower would solve the issue of packed down snow from a snow plow - or if a snow plow will create packed down snow that is nearly impossible to remove, please let me know! Because as I said, my Dad cannot move anywhere in his wheelchair unless he sees pavement. And if you could give me any other tips with how to have a driveway that is super clean and clear of snow in these Buffalo winters, it would help immensely. Thank you so much

Hey Goalie! Welcome to Buffalo! I would recommend a 24” snowblower. Gas will be the way to go since you have extra things to clean up. They should not damage the ramp unless you bang in to it. You can also set the scraper bar to its lowest setting two the skids on each side to help you snowblow right down to the concrete! As far as brands I would look at the ariens compact or deluxe. The compact would probably be small enough to turn on the ramp without too much trouble. Hope this helps my friend! 👍

This was amazing. Exactly matches my snowblower. Issue was in the track of the carbeurator face butted up to the snowblower. Underneath the gasket on that side at the end of the track was reddish orange goo the consistency of the sticky stuff that attaches new credit cards to the "Don't forget to activate" paper from the bank. Peeled that off, scrubbed it out, and removed some more from along the o-ring gasket. Did the rest of what the video said for good measure, and no more pulsing. Snow blower is running smooth again. THANKS!

I own a 1986 MasterCraft model #1026. Will your instructions in this video work for cleaning the CARBURETOR on it as well? My machine starts but backfires, and surges. I couldn't get any "power" out of the unit when I used it the other day. example: no speed while moving and a slow trickle of snow out of the chute. The machine would speed up occasionally, then slow right down again, "sputtering" the whole time.

Hi Christine, you have a very old model. These instructions will not be the same because this was done on a newer engine. It sounds like cleaning your carburetor is necessary. I would definitely have it serviced. Thanks for watching!

Want at least 10 years between carb cleanings? Ethanol free gas. If you can't help yourself and must add stabil just add a tiny amount. Ethanol free gas will easily last a year without additives. Great video. Very methodical.

And that, dear viewers, is how you do a fiddly project. Step by step, organized and with note-taking if you need it. I have one place I can buy ethanol-free fuel near me, and it’s usually two cans per year between the mower and the snow blower. But I still add some Sta-Bil and a little SeaFoam to the fuel can, in accordance with the instructions they provide. Do you think this is overkill with ethanol-free fuel? (And, if course, end of season means running until the take is dry and draining the carb bowl). Another great video, JB.
@f62darkstar
@f62darkstar Жыл бұрын
adding stabil to non-ethanol fuel I think is a waste....I have seen what stabil can do to carbs. Now seafoam is a good idea but I would mix like a cap fuel to the machine instead of treating a whole can....But that's just me....If it works for you stick with it.....But I would stay away from stabil.
@OlivierCaron
@OlivierCaron Жыл бұрын
Sta-Bil is overkill if you use the gasoline within 3 months. It is an antioxidant that will slow down the gasoline breakdown due to oxidation, simple as that. It may help with water absorption in both E10 and ethanol-free fuels, reducing the risk of phase separation (e.g. water sinking to the bottom of your gas container or worse, the carburetor or gas tank in storage). Ethanol is a solvant so it is actually good against varnish in carburetors, but on older models it will also dissolve gaskets, o-rings and that will end up clogging your jets. That is why it is advised to use ethanol-free fuel, better on newer engines, necessary on old ones, and Sta-Bil cannot help with that.

Hey JB, great content - been following for a while! I used your video to clean the carb on my Ariens Pro, it has a very similar carb if not the exact same one (it's a 2014 or 2015). My blower still has minor idle surging and I'm pretty sure the pilot jet/idle air jet (the black plastic jet) is the cause. Saw other videos online that recommend enlarging the small hole of the pilot jet ever so slightly with a micro drillbit to fix this issue. I'm also looking to replace its 2 small o-rings since they have desintegrated over time - those are really hard to find! Ever heard of this fix? Gonna attempt it soon and report back, thanks again!

@@GarageGear Happy to report back : I replaced the 2 o-rings (amazon) and ran a micro drill bit with a snug fit in the pilot jet hole.
