This is the first time I really jammed up our DK2 wood chipper while chipping and in this video I take you along as I attempt to clear it.
Note that after a year of use and chipping brush in all morning before jamming it, I continue to be very happy with this machine!
I am just a regular guy using this on our 30 acre homestead. I am also not affiliated with the company in any way.

For the price range, the DK2 looks like a good purchase. All chippers jamb, so that shouldn't scare away people who understand machinery. If it is maintained properly and the blades are sharpened/changed, when needed, it should last you many years. Thanks for your videos. They are helping me with my decision.

Rich, I couldn’t unjam my 2nd Jam with your method. I used the method in the manual to unjam, it was much easier, as follows “Remove the cap on the bearing (opposite side from pulley ) and turn shaft using a wrench “. I made a quick video to show how to do this. I’ll send video to you if I can figure out where and how. You can republish if you like or make your own. Thank you, Paul

I think I see a small toolbox below the exit chute - same as my DK chipper mine came W/metric wrench set - 19mm (I think) was the one for the black drum nut. I've jammed mine several times chipping old dry pine after a forest masticator. Put the wrench on the black nut and crank it back & forth then fully counterclockwise until free. Just a suggestion

Thanks for this...however, I worry for your safety. I'm sure you read, where you can open the side plate (where the grease fitting you identified is), in the manual. I recommend that and it's what I plan to do, when confronted with the same situation. From what I've read, the blades are reversible. I recommend turning them around. Keep up the great work!

This is one of the reasons I bought the bigger OPC505AE. I has a roller drum that feeds branches in at a set rate. The drum acts as a barrier and things can't shoot back out the chute as easy, but also they can't get pulled in and jam. I was really thinking about a chipper like yours but I decided WTH, why not. So far seems like Detail K2 is making some good stuff.

The OPC505AE looks like a good unit. But, it costs more than twice as much as the one that Rich is demonstrating. My guess is when you get a feel for this machine, you'll know how much it can handle. At $2,400 extra, you could purchase two of these and have one for backup, vs buying the OPC505AE. We are all obviously different when it comes to our buying choices, so I understand why the OPC505AE would be the preferred choice for many.

Mine has a centrifugal clutch. Which makes it a bit worse. It will start so pull spins in belts (2). Smoke then fire if you don't shut it off quick. Wish my chip chamber had the clamp latches. Not bolted. Only takes a twig to jam them.

somehow i missed this video, i just got mine today and so far i'm not impressed. it struggles with 1" branches, i have to feed them one by one. a 2-3 inch log, forget it, i have to chip an inch at a time or it will bog and almost stall. and having to babysit a log every time i feed it is nuts. the quality of this, the assembly, missing parts, and lack of maintenance is nuts. i had so many quirks that it took me 3 hours of assembly before i turned it over. i took lots of pics and will release a youtube video soon. i've watched several videos on youtube of this machine and they all show to feed right in, not mine. i'll try to adjust the blade but if it doesnt improve i'll return this thing to home depot and rent a real chipper for $350, clean my yard and put the $1700 back in my pocket. it took me an HOUR to chip about 20 branches, mostly 1-inch, stay tuned....

@@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid yeah i'm not happy, there are loose (and stripped) bolts on the belt cover and below it on the drum housing, the drum was shifted to one side and the allen screws fell out, luckily i found them. wouldnt that have been a surprise the next time i started the engine and the drum didnt turn. there's something banging around inside the drum when you turn it manually, the engine already had some oil in it and the tank smelled like gas, there were scratches on the unit and the carton was damaged in shipping. overall i'm not impressed with this, there is no blade adjustment, the wheel bearings are already falling off, i'm going to try to get a refund, this is absurd. I took more photos and videos tonight.

Ironically enough, they had the chutzpah to file a lawsuit afterward claiming a defective safety mechanism and from what i hear tru da grapevine it was settled quietly outta court, but nobody can prove nuttin'. ;-) (only joking around as a fiction writer so no worries!

I see other brand like skarper, it has an anvil installed. The anvil on perpendicular position with the blade, that avoid the un-cut branch slip into under drum/blade. On your machine, after the blade cut branch, the un-cut brach will slip between the drum-blade and lower drum housing and it caused jam.

Listen, I'm saying this to HELP YOU...you need to be MUCH more careful with a wood chipper. These are not extremely sophisticated machines... its just an engine with a really sharp blade attached to it. I know you had the key turned off, but if this thing would have backfired when you had that 2x4 in the blade channel, you could have been seriously hurt. NEVER EVER tinker with one of these things without DISCONNECTING THE SPARK PLUG. A backfire can start the motor for a couple of revolutions and that's all it takes to cut off your finger. You really need to be more careful, because you're showing people how to clear a jam in a very unsafe manner (IMHO)....
@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid
@CreatingASimplerLifeOffGrid 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip. Your right others might think its safe to put their hands in there. The engine was cold and jammed so tight that the chance for a kick with the key turned off was very slim .Believe me I didn't like putting my fingers in there. Probably should have remover the spark plug altogether. Thanks for your kind words and for watching .
