We lamented for months about buying this excavator, but feel that it's the best way to make big progress here on our mountainous, heavily overgrown, and unmanaged hunting property. With another baby on the way, we're changed our plans & are building off grid cabin number 2. This cabin will be big enough for us to have live in for years to come, with beds for guests, solar, and a real septic tank (no more composting toilet).

Absolutely right!! We’re so close up in the national forrest, it felt like a worthwhile investment. Lucky for me, Woody is a grease monkey and loves to fix things, otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to gamble on a less expensive grey market machine.

If you build up there, make sure to put lightning rods on your home and ground them directly to the ground. I built on a hilltop in Western Pennsylvania we have had at least 3 lightning strikes since 92 and no damage to our home! Eddie

Not a bad thing to remember!! We bought a couple of EMP shield devices too just in case. They work for EMP’s and general lighting. Worth the money, especially when you factor in how crazy it’ll be to get stuff following a major storm or event.

Every surveyor I've delt with, has done a fabulous job with marking well established lines. Sounds like your guy got caught taking a short cut. Right on with calling him out on that. Good luck and stay safe !

There’s only 2 surveyors in our county and sadly, neither of them have enviable reputations. We picked the one who could get us in, and he did as little work as possible knowing we were out of state and could get away with it… for a while. I don’t think he expected us to hike all the way over the mountain to check the pins lol 😆 SURPRISE GUY!! According to our realtor “he and his wife seem to cover for eachother & neither ever takes responsibility.” 🙃

When you put the bolt into the shackle, make sure you back it off about about 1/4 so it doesn't get stuck.

Much aloha from Hawaii I love these types of videos, especially with equipment. I’ve seen other people use a log between the bucket and the thumb as a rake to smooth out the surface of the ground just sharing not armchair quarterbacking you guys are doing great and I’ll keep watching. Our survey, although expensive was worth it. The best part is that it had to be read into court records, not just a drawing and pins in the ground. The court had to reject or accept it and accept it they did. Especially since the original or last survey wasn't exactly correct. Back in the day, the County Surveyor didn't require formal surveying training. Just a win in an election. The neighbor at the time wasn't too happy that their property is divided by mine. Since they have road frontage access to all of their stuff, what they wanted to be their drive and junkyard is actually a parcel of mine, with acreage suitable for building. When the new neighbor bought the place divided by mine, he was made well aware that one day there might very well be a new home built on what may appear to be part of his property.

If you get a water windmill which goes inside your tank the water comes in makes a whirlpool spins and generates pressure then you can have water pressure in the house

Hey guys one of my relatives properties kind of like yours he has a couple Springs on there but most the time when it rains you got a lot of water running down Canyons and so what he's done he's damned up areas where the most water is flowing family basically reservoirs and he has five or six reservoirs and once the rain stopped things are full I'm pretty darn big and I think that's what you could do is keep looking for more Springs and you can build a little spring boxes for the water coming out of the ground and then the stuff during and after the rain is recently damn up the channels it doesn't have to be huge but you know like 10 feet down 10 feet across with a liner and you'll have a nice water catchment just a thought

YES! 🙌 we are on the same page!! We’ve been identifying good spots to dam up, I think once we get the excavator back over that’ll be one of our next projects. I’d love to get a some water to hold just behind the cabin. We haven’t had luck finding a water tank yet (the shipping on them new is INSANE)…

Was thinking a ram pump would be ideal for the drop you have with that spring, but not so much if you are gonna build at or above it haha A cool road smoothing thing I’ve seen is a panel of chain link fence roughly 8x8. Drag it behind whatever vehicle is convenient. I’m sure you’ve seen plenty of similar things! :)

@@woodysbarndominium hope it’s something easy to fix! I refreshed my memory on ram pumps, it actually should be a viable way to move water up the hill, just depends on the overall height changes involved. But could get you some water pressure to work with up there

At least you have tons and tons of firewood to sell and if you can haul it to a railway and brokerage it out to the right outfit, you could make tons of money. People are paying top $$ for firewood cause there's not many public lands left you can cut on without bidding on big projects and they end up being just piles of root wads and such. Been there and done that! Give you something to think about!

Surveyors are people too, and often times really lazy people at that. My lot frontage is marked @ 106' on the plot map, but it is really supposed to be 88'. My acreage is correct, but when frontage of 106' is measured, it includes my neighbors whole driveway.

Just an idea.. Since you got such a great property, could build rental cabins. There's a place in Pigeon Forge Tennessee we've been staying at annually called hidden mountain resort east. It you're in Ozarks by lake my guess you can make a bundle off rentals. Could pay back what you put in.

hi there. i have a suggestion about one thing you can buy but that thing cost a alot depending on the size off it. and it is something that is called " gorilla cart " it is build to take a beating and can help you transport things from a to b and you can even hook it up to the four wheeler if you dont like dragging it. gorilla cart is a cart that is basically like a small trailer for a four wheeler or if you dont want it hook up to the four wheeler then you can drag it. just a tip :)

@@woodysbarndominium If you really want to go into debt, check out the new-ish CASE Minotaur DL550 compact dozer loader. One of the dirt channels I watch recently got one to demo for a few months and he really misses having it around now that it’s gone back to case.

Yeah we are not happy. There’s only 2 surveyors that serve our county, so it’s a real leap of faith when you hire one. I’ve not ruled out reporting, that’s for sure.

www.pels.arkansas.gov/ is the link to the Professional Engineers and Surveyors office in Arkansas Register a complaint with the State. I don't know the specific rules in Arkansas but suspect they are the same as in Texas and a failure to properly document the corners and changes in direction is not acceptable. In Texas the survey is a legal document and has specific requirements. I did find this link www.labor.arkansas.gov/wp-content/uploads/Minimum-STANDARDS-Of-Practice-2020-08-07.pdf From the Arkansas Standards of Practice for Property Boundary Surveys and Plats - Standards of Practice No. 1 Monumentation. The surveyor shall cause monuments marking the corners of a parcel to be set as follows: 1. Location. The surveyor shall locate or confirm the prior location of permanent monuments at each boundary corner of the lot, parcel, tract or line being surveyed. When the placement of a required monument at its proper location is impractical, an offset monument may be set. The location of said offset monument shall be clearly shown on the plat. The correctness or incorrectness of previously placed (existing) monuments shall be confirmed by the surveyor, and they shall be shown and referenced on the plat.

Its not a bulldozer, the best way to level up with that blade is to back drag, you may be able to float the blade thats the best way to backdrag , you'll be an expert in 2 weeks.

we're going to build a little 20x30 2 story cabin, probably with steel siding (I havent decided yet). it will have 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, plus a small kitchen. We realized quickly here just how important a screened porch is during the summer, so that will be our first addition, and maybe later a room off the back of the house for laundry, storage, and a sleeping loft. we should be able to cool it with 1 centrally located mini split

We own it! The property extends over the ridge & the surveyor was LAZY & didn’t actually physically hike over the ridge to locate the old iron pins & place new visible markers on them. We specifically paid him to do that, which he did on all the easy to get to points up by the cabin. Because he didn’t do that (but insisted he did) we wasted several days last fall out there looking for markers that didn’t exist. The cabin was 1’ inside of our property line, and we later contacted the owners (who were very hard to find) and they agreed to sell it to us for a good deal. Total of 9 acres added! 🙌 now we have the ability to really clean up around the cabin.

That's why you have a GPS unit and find the corners yourself. The guy was just lazy and I would confirm anything he does via GPS.

hey! GPS units aren't as accurate as a surveyor, even a crappy one. Our longest property line is against the national forest, which is super well marked, but even that super district boundary is off by 20 or more feet from where the old iron pins were located, and 15 feet from where GPS says it should be. Add in there our extreme topographical changes and tree density, and youre up creek without a paddle.

I really dislike the (fish eye/wide angle/whatever) lense you’re using on your camera, especially on the walk up to the spring. I find it ‘confuses’ the scene and puts it out of balance in many shots.

This problem with your suveyor, unfortunately, has become a common problem the last few years. I see it on a regular basis. There are a few reasons for it, but they are all excuses on the surveyors part. We mostly run into it when we are staking for new development and find the property not monumented by the original surveyor. We call them and tell them that we would hate to have to make a report to the board of surveyors. After that, the turnaround time is always within a day that there will be a fully monumented property. The board can be very heavy handed….

What a lazy man. That's all he was doing, not wanting to hike up to actually do his job. He's just asking for lawsuits. I'm betting it's not his first time.

Seriously! He’s going to get himself in some real trouble when people start developing on lots he’s surveyed.
