Clicking Noise from Dash? No AC? Blend Door Actuator Replacement! 07 Expedition (Minute Maintenance)

In this video I respond to a viewer's question! The Viewer described having intermittent cold air in her 2007 Ford Expedition...even after spending $2500 on a new AC system.
She replaced the AC Compressor, Blend Door Actuator, AC Lines, checked for full charge and still isn't getting any cold air on certain occasions. She also described hearing a clicking noise from her dashboard when trying to activate the AC that would go away when she hit a bump.
Hard to diagnose a Vehicle without being hands on but based on personal experience, and assuming the information offered was accurate, all signs point to a bad or stuck Blend Door Actuator.
I've had to replace my Blend Door Actuator in this very truck Twice in the past 2 years. They can become faulty very easily from strained use, overuse or just be bad or have a depreciated lifespan straight off the shelf
The Blend Door Actuator acts similar to a "Faucet" in your sink, allowing Hot and Cold air to mix, if broken in one direction it won't allow the proper and selected temperature to come thru! On my difficulty Scale this is a 4 out of 10 to replace!

TY VM, that helped. But there is another actuator somewhere that is clicking much stronger, when cool down the left side, somewhere on left i can hear it

So I'm hearing the clicking. But it seems to be two different "sets" of clicking. Is this the only actuator in there or are there more back there? The sounds I hear upon turning on the vehicle it sounds like two different actuators are making 2 different sounds where one stops after a few seconds and the other sound continues a bit more.

I have 2 different clicking noises, slow clicking on the passenger side and a fast loud clicking sounds like it comes from the driver side around the defrost vents but only happens when the air is set to auto

Sorry for Delay in Response! And thank you for watching. There are 2 actuators on this Vehicle as its "Dual Climate" it is possible they both have started to go out and are having trouble sticking. Hence the 2 different speeds of clicking.

So i had the blend door actuator clicking and the AC still worked. But when i changed the actuator then the ac just stopped blowing cold all together. Someone said you may need to recalibrate the actuator after installing a new one

Hey Boss! That is Definitely a Possibility! In This Video I Didnt Go Over the Recalibration...as I Wasnt Truly Replacing my Blend Door just Overviewing the Process for a Viewer Who had Asked in the Comments. Oversight on My Part! Appreciate the View and Comment!!

I have 2010 expedition limited clicking noise from the back i change the back and now the noise from the front. and i change the front one now both of them are clicking, but so far the air still working. what should i do?

Hey thanks for watching, so sorry for the delay! 1st question would be did you follow the instructions the "Blend Door Actuator" came with on how to "Calibrate" it before installing. Sometimes the Blenddoor gets stuck in a fully open or fully closed position and if the New Blend Door isnt adjusted for that it can cause it to break or get stuck and just click! If you dont think that would be the cause it's possible the noise is unrelated to the Actuator. If heat and air are still working appropriately it's unlikely the Blend door is the culprit. If the noise happens when switching the climate controls then it's most likely related to the Blend doors or even the "Blower Motor" itself.

Thank you for your question! If your car is stuck putting out AC or Heat when you change your setting then the Blend Door Actuator may he your culprit! Replacing it will allow the the vent to switch channel from cold to hot!

@@2315garcia Assuming you bought a new blend door Actuator instructions on how to "reset/calibrate" that actuator will or at least should be included with the box. Some vehicles require a obdii scanner to reset the actuator (meaning move the motor to adjust it and allow it to attach to the Blend door knob) others simply need you to plug the new Actuator into the wiring harness and then work the thermostat controls until the motor in the actuator moves into the proper position. Hope that helps!

Just pulled the blend door actuator out of my 2017 expedition, what a pain, but the clicking is still happening. Sound like it’s coming from whatever the blend door actuator hooks into. Sorry, complete novice here. Thanks.

Hey thx for Watching! So assuming you didn't get a bad/defective Actuator out of the box (has been known to happen alot these days) the "clicking noise" could be caused by a range of issues. Assuming your 2017 Expedition is Dual Climate Control..it maybe the 2nd Blend door Actuator (they'll be 2 if it is in fact a dual climate control 1 for driver and 1 for passenger). Clicking can also be caused by debris haven fallen thru the vents, dash and gotten lodged. The Blend door Actuator itself just connects to a "door" that the Actuator rotates back and forth..it's possible the door has some debris in its way or is somehow compromised but unlikely. Unfortunately there's really no good way to figure this out without listening and feeling around and inside the dash, trying to physically "feel" the vibrations from the clicks would help you determine which area or part is causing the issue. I wish I had a simple answer for you! Unfortunately this type of issue isn't as easy to track down as a...check engine code...would be. Good luck!!

Thanks for the question! I'm sorry to hear you're still having the issue, if it is in fact still the same.noise as before, and cause by a faulty blend door actuator... I've personally received cheap/faulty actuators directly off the shelf from an auto store before. They are plastic and cheap to make and can be bad from first use. Or the blend door itself could have become lodged by debris they the vents, rust, dead mice etc..and if stuck in place the small actuator attempting to...actuate..could cause the plastic teeth inside the actuator to break right away. Could always remove the actuator and before installing the new one, try to manipulate the Blend door knob by hand/tool to make sure it moved freely. Hope that helps, Happy Wrenching

I'm glad the clicking is gone. Does the Rear AC work? In the front is it that the air isnt cold or that it's not blowing... if that makes sense. Can you change the front blower motor speed (air flow) from low to high?
