I find myself talking about a lot of movies on this channel that seem to be remembered fondly, yet they’ve somehow narrowly escaped full blown cult-classic status. Some of these are films I’ve mentioned briefly in other videos, some I’ve avoided mentioning specifically so I can talk about them more extensively in this new series: (Almost) Cult Classics.
First up is Clifford (1994). There is no other movie quite like it. This surreal comedy stars Martin Short as a ten year old boy and Charles Grodin as his uncle, who's tasked with babysitting him. I take a look at what makes this film so unique and why it's worth watching close to three decades since its release.

Id love to see a video on the actor who played Wesley in the Princess Bride, I just adore him in everything hes in. Seconding the request for So I Married an Axe Murderer as well. And...maybe to tossing in Earth Girls are Easy for consideration. I also found Natutal Born Killers to be a hilarious movie. I cant even tell if its intentionally so, it's just so meta and good.

This is easily one of my favorite movies as a kid. I was born the year this came out but my dad showed it to me and I feel like it’s one comedy that is excellent at having funny stuff for kids and adults which can be hard to find that balance and do it so well. Apart from Martin Shirt playing as Jerry Lewis some skits. This is the funniest thing I’ve seen him in. Secondly, you gotta do So I Married an Axe Murderer! Another underrated comedy gold mine from Mike Myers!

Severely underrated actor. No one can convey distain better. Midnight Run, Taking Care Of Business, and his cameo in So...I Married An Axe Murderer are some of my favourite "almost classics". I love this love for Chuck Grodin. In addition to the films you've mentioned, he's probably the greatest late night talk show guest in the history of the medium. Check out a few clips of him on Carson to see how he delightfully baffled audience members in the same way Clifford did. Also of remarkable note is how ageless the man is, he was 32 when Rosemary's Baby was filmed, 37 when The Heartbreak Kid was filmed, 54 when Clifford was filmed, and 57 and 58 when Beethoven 1 and 2 came out and he looks the same in each movie. (Note: he's also the best part of the TV show 'Louie' whether he's playing the titular character's neighbor or doctor). The man is gifted.

Clifford is easily the funniest movie I have ever seen. Martin Short is a comedic genius. 😂

This movie was way too epic. Found it randomly being played on some Saturday afternoon when I was12. My siblings and all enjoyed it and still reference it today!

Just wanted to say I've been watching some of your videos, and enjoying them. You have great taste--Laurel & Hardy, Three Stooges, etc. and these almost cult classics. Glad someone else likes some of these offbeat movies as much as I do :)

When "Clifford" was in the theaters, I paid no attention because I thought it was about the cartoon giant dog. About 10 years ago, a friend got me to watch it. It became one of my favorites. Such an odd, hilarious, & touching movie! I puzzle over how it ever got green lighted from the studio.

Well played. This flick is a gem and indeed worthy of this series. My bestie and I used to laugh endlessly at this one. The Tabasco scene remains a running joke.

Saw this as a kid and forgot most details except the bizarre awesomeness of the dinosaur world scenes near the end and was looking for it for years! Thanks for letting me know it exists and wasn’t a fever dream of mine.

Agreed...This movie is hilarious one of my favorite scenes is where he tells him "look at me like a human boy" the looks that Short does then he says "you can't do it can you??"....HILARIOUS...I can't 🤣🤣🤣

This movie is insanity and I LOVE it... with the whole secret sadistic dynamic between the 2, it was like Fargo for kids before Fargo even existed 😆

So happy that someone did a retrospective on 'Clifford'. I was so confused the first time I saw this one, but enjoyed it more each time I watched it. A few years ago, it was streaming and I just had to show it to my wife. She also assumed it would be about a big red dog.
