No disrespect to any creators intended, but I find it harder and harder to come across gun content/creators on youtube that I can consistently stomach. You're killing it, brother! Excellent, absolutely excellent stuff as usual. I do my part and mention your channel to likeminded guys and gals when I can, I have a gut feeling your channel is going to grow exponentially over the coming years if you keep this up. Impressive setup from a technical standpoint and you make a great "host." Look forward to the next one.

One of the best times I’ve had was clipping on my buddy’s pvs30 (refurb) in front of my ta31, using a wheelbarrow on its side as a platform, and shooting a C zone Steel at 300 yards in pitch black. It gets dark in Tennessee. I have a pvs14 now, and hope to add a 30 down the line. I figure for $10k you can either have one set of binocular nvgs or a pvs14/30 combo. For my needs, the 14/30 combo is just more capability and flexibility.
@MountainsMulletsMerica

Oh man the first time you connect on distant steel after dark you’re hooked! What a cool experience. I agree with you, I’m also sort of in the market for a pvs14 setup. Shooting long range in the dark is cool but it’s just awkward to not have the short range NV capability to go alongside the long rang capability haha

PVS-27 FTW!! Both are great units, but the PVS-27 is better for long range engagements as you stated. I think the 30 was more suited for semi-auto DMR purposes. Since the military doesn't to my knowledge use semi-auto magnum rifles, the PVS-27 was geared to more bolt action magnum rifles: 300WM, .338LM, etc. Don't quote me on that, just my 2 cents. Even though the PVS-30 is .50BMG rated, I'd still choose the PVS-27 for overall use from short to long actions. Thanks for the awesome video.

To start I already on a pvs 14, full power dbal a3 50/50/200mw illuminator, and a agm 384 thermal scope. In your opinion what is the progression? I have debated pairing my 14 with a iray rh25 or mh25 or picking up a pvs 30 (new wp eotech variety because I get industry discount). I’m really torn between the 2 because I’ve used dual tube nvg setups and duals don’t seem to be enough of an advantage to consider them an upgrade in capability. Keep in mind my majority use case is coyote hunting inside 300 yards and underlying use case is freedom and liberty. Thanks and love the content!

Just curious as I don't see anyone in the comments mentioning it. When you look through the scope, is your image clear and crisp? I have used NV quite extensively in my past career, and it was usually very crisp and clear. I ask because the images through the scope in the video look unusable to me and that could just be my monitor possibly or maybe the way the camera picks it up through the scope. Great video and the messaging is crystal clear.
@MountainsMulletsMerica
@MountainsMulletsMerica Жыл бұрын
I would say the image looking through the scope is for sure more crisp and clear. Seems like the camera struggles to record great video looking through the NV. That said though, neither the image through the PVS30 or the PVS27 is what I would call great. I think to get a great image I’d need a newer/ nicer NV setup. For the money though I believe both the PVS30 and the PVS27 that I own are very functional and offer acceptable performance for the money, especially when compared to a new unit. Thanks for watching!

I have an ar-15 5.56 with a 416r precision ss 18 inch barrel. My optic is a primary arms acss sfp 1x6 lpvo and an ATN Ps28-wpt. I have it aligned and within 3mm centered as the manual requires. It has no discernible POI shift at 150 yards that I can see. My issue is that the lpvo has a BDC reticle and is only accurate at 6 power. it does have a CQB horse shoe reticle for closer than 100 yards. At 6 power the image from the ocular of the ps28 cnvd is very blurry for a 20 inch IPA silhouette painted white at 150 yards. It is worse than yours shown here in this video. Ambient lighting conditions were poor in the woods with lots of canopy (Alabama). I have a bright illuminator but it doesnt help the "zoom blur". I understand my day optic is focusing on the ocular part of the tube and the resolution here must be high. I ask what have you done to maximize clarity in your day optic? pvs27/30 ocular resolution? ffp better than sfp for this application? You have the most informative video on this topic that I have seen. Long range NV videos are almost non existent. Most focus on 50 yards and less.

THANK YOU! I have a pair of nods and have been wanting to experiment with clip-ons but its really hard to find info on this topic and have confidence in what you're buying. Not cheap gadgets to just be throwing money at without being knowledgeable. Since this video was made, have you been able to look through a known FOM white phosphor filmless tube to see how they compare? Maybe get a bit more performance on the very low light days but not sure if its worth the up-charge. Lastly, do you have any thoughts on the PVS-24/M2124? That's the other option I see suggested.

Unfortunately the only experience I have with NV is looking through the 2 clip ons in this video. I've never had the chance to look through any of the newer WP options but hopefully I'll be able to give something like this a try down the road. Similarly, I don't have any experience with the PVS24. It looks like a solid unit that would perform very well, however my hesitation with it is it's only rated for 308 recoil. While that's likely fine, it just feels like it could limit where you are able to use that unit. I hope to suppress one of my magnum calibers later this year and run at night so I need that magnum recoil rating haha. Thanks for watching!

There are some devices on the market but to be honest I'm not sure I can name them all. I know one of the most affordable options is the silencerco radius given its only a LRF with no IR capabilities but they are long out of production and command a premium on the used market. From there I know there are several models of the raptar out there which are priced much higher but buying used helps with that. I'm sure there are other newer options out there but I'm not really studied up on them. @@MountainsMulletsMerica Heck yeah man. I'm actually in the Tri-Cities. Small world man. It most definitely is a long range paradise. We've been kind of losing out spots out here though. People dumping trash and being destructive in general. I don't think the spot where I could push a mile is open any more and I don't really know any of the farmers out here. I actually stumbled across your video because I'm building a 308 for a trainer (been out of long range awhile) and as a project for my blog and I was consider NV for it. I'm really having a hard time gauging what level of magnification is usable and the capabilities of these things via the internet. I think thats a camera/internet thing because pics don't ever do my nods justice. When you were making some of your longer shots I was having a hard time actually seeing the target until you hit it. I'm assuming you could see it as you were hitting it. Where do you find the limitations of your NV as far as the magnification goes?

@@bradchenoweth7584 man that's the cool thing about youtube, allows you to connect with folks from around the world or right next door haha. As you mention, I believe the camera does degrade the image slightly. That said though given my NV units are older green units I don't feel like they put out the quality image that newer higher FOM gear will. That said though, I feel like 12x is the top end where I feel comfortable with either the PVS27 or the PVS30. If I go above that the image gets a little more grainy than I like. The other thing is the illuminator you're using, this will have a significant impact on the image you're able to see, how much magnification you can use and how far you can push your setup. Really appreciate you taking the time to wach and comment!

@@MountainsMulletsMerica Yeah, I've been trying to gauge what these units are capable so I know what I want and how much I'll be paying when I'm ready to drop the coin. The internet just sort of makes things muddy, but from what I can tell, most people do say 12x is about the top end before it gets bad. I kicked you a follow on IG. Really enjoying the content man!

@@bradchenoweth7584 yeah I’ve seen folks say upwards of 20x mag with some clip ons but I really think that’s with the newer/ nicer higher fom stuff. Def not with what I’m using haha. Glad what I’m putting out is relevant for you!

Hey bud any opinions on the Pvs-26?
@MountainsMulletsMerica
@MountainsMulletsMerica Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I don’t have any experience with the pvs26 so can’t say I have any kind of opinion on the unit. From what I’ve read though I’d guess performance would be similar to the pvs30. Wish I had more info to offer you on this one but dont want to mislead given I don’t have experience. Thanks for watching!

I picked mine up used for just under $5k. Seems like that's pretty run of the mil on the used market.

Yessir, located in eastern WA. I don’t farm myself but I’ve got connections with farmers in the area which is how I landed access to this ground. Not in the market to sell the PVS27 at the moment but will for sure keep you in mind if that changes! Thanks for watching!
