Thank you for the pool advice! We are shocking the pool and it is looking a bit better. We noticed that the bromine levels are high (on the test strip),but everything else looks normal. Is there a way to lower this bromine or should we not worry about it too much? We have chlorine tablets floating in the pool and are wondering if these should be removed for a bit? Its a 16x 32 in ground pool. We have the chlorine floating in the pool. We have added 4 gallons of liquid shock as suggested and it does looks better. We are also cleaning the filter as well and back washing. Still cloudy but looks better. Will it hurt to add more liquid shock or should we leave it alone? We don't want to over do it. We also ordered a new filter cartridge as we are wondering if this will help too. Ours is only a year or two old but its dirty and we are cleaning it all of the time so we ordered a new one. Thanks for all your advice. It is really helping and so much appreciated!! We are in NY state by the way and its really hot here. Thanks again for any additional advice you have!

Whenever you are shocking the pool the chlorine levels will stay high for days once the algae is killed. As long as the pool is clearing up and you are maintaining a good high chlorine level then there is no need to reshock now. If you see any visible algae then you will need more shock. I would not swim until the pool is completely clear and the levels drop down to 2-3ppm of free chlorine. Check out my clarifier video that will speed up the cloudiness. Make sure to run your pool no less the. 8 hours daily.

Did the opening process and now on chlorine. Frog system. Alot of the garbage leaves etc. Algae. Should I still super shock it. First day running pump and letting it go on high alll night. Hello, I got small pool with small light blue mosaic inside. I can get clear water but the water inside the filter gets light blue colour same as the mosaic after 8 hour filtering. PH and Clorum normal and using algicide. Can you tell me the cause. Can it be the mosaic tearing apart in dust particles? Or is there any kind of algae that has light blue colour? Thanks Jorge Dias

I have heard people call black algae blue/green algae. I definitely think it could be the mosaic that sounds more reasonable because the main types of algae are black yellow and green but I would actually call your local pool store and see what they think where I’m located the majority of pools are vinyl lined so I do not run into those type of issues most of the time but if you find out please let me know I would appreciate it thank you.

Hi I just opened my pool for the first time ever (moved in last year) it's a 33.5k gallon vinyl liner pool with a sand filter, there is a ton of debris in the deep end the problem is that I can't see it due to the water being too cloudy and as soon as I touch it with a net the pool turns black and makes it worse the pool is blue but cloudy I've been dumping in shock by the gallon (granular) and still not clear in the deep PH is good Cya is low Any advice?

I would get the stabilizer to 40ppm and keep treating to kill the algae. I would recommend using liquid chlorine since it doesn’t cause the pool to cloud up. Also I would clean the filter daily and make sure the pump runs 24/7. I normally would use 5 gallons a day on a pool that size in conjunction with 3 chlorine tablets in the chlorinator or chlorine float. Before you start I would try your best to get out as much debris on the bottom with a pool net because that will use up the chlorine quickly.

@@ClearlySeen thank you for your advice! It's been a few days since and it's clear-ish now! Thanks What's interesting is that there is a super fine dust like material on the floor that can't be neted out of the pool has to be vacuumed Did you ever experience this?
@ClearlySeen
@ClearlySeen 4 жыл бұрын
That sounds like calcium residue from the granular chlorine you added previously. I would make sure the free chlorine stays high like above 5ppm until the pool is totally clear just keep using liquid chlorine. I have seen a lot of customers get to the point you are at and then wake up to a green pool. Once the pool is totally clear then maintain 2-3 free chlorine and you should be fine.

I have a pool and am a chemist as well. Phosphate remover will get rid of your algae. I am not sure why this isnt advertised more but phosphate remover kills the aglae's food. Algacide is not going to solve your problem. Phosphate remover can be ordered at Wal Mart or Home Depot. Your water should become crystal clear after this. You can also add clarifier but no need to buy expensive chemicals because this will damage your equipment in the long run.

So I’ve got a pool that was really green.. that has now been shocked twice both with 1bs of granular shock as required on the packaging. It has changed from a green blue color but is still cloudy. I’ve put water clarifier in. And my levels are in the correct zone apart from the chrlorine of course because it’s just been shocked and it’s reading 10ppm. My free chlorine is reading 3ppm. Should I let it settle for a few days and see what happens? The chlorine seems to be maintaining a perfect balance in the pool. And after scrubbing it with a broom today nothing really came off the bottom of the pool as compared to 3 days ago

Ok I got one for ya! It’s got me stumped! We got a pool this year. INTEX 32’ x 16’ x 52” above ground. Water was crystal clear after it finally filled, went to local pool store and had water tested, bought $192 in chemicals and pool got cloudy, that was about 4 weeks ago. since then have been back to pool Store 2 more times and have spent total of $370 in chemicals, pool still cloudy, just got my bill of $200 for filling up the pool, took some online advice of pool owners and did a double shock and ran pump 24 hours for 2-3 days and now in on second suggestion from online which is to turn pump off and let everything settle and maybe try to vacuum it out! Everything is on level though, except chlorine is 10 and free chlorine is also high, so we can’t even get in to swim 😭😭. I am at a total loss as of what to do, ready to cry, need miracle! I backwashed it twice today and ran some water out of the pool. Please tell me what to do! We are in West Virginia and I just want clear water to swim in with my kids.

If you are able to do a proper vacuuming to waste and have that function on the filter if they gave you a chemical called dropout you would use that follow the directions and vacuum everything that settles to the bottom after a day or two. If you do not have a sand filter or a proper vacuum that will allow you to vacuum everything off the bottom I would not do it. Drop out is a liquid similar to clarifier that works well if you can vacuum to waste if that’s not your setup run the pump 24/7 use some clarifier every other day and clean your filter thoroughly daily.

I started my pool late. And didn't open it a year or two before that. Because I thought it leaked and so had to add water all the time and start over.(because it unbalanced) Now was ready to fix what ever. But seems it doesn't leak. But now can't get it clear. Balanced everything. Although I found my Ph doesn't seem to go up. I add and it stays at 7.2. I did everything. When noticed it was cloudy green. Put algaecide (piscikill) I went to get more things. But the pool was already back to brown. Since it was a few days later and I finally got a good skimmer to get debris out better. Yesterday I shocked pool again. After trying to get my Ph to 7.4 without success. Hardness and alka is ok. Although I can't test hardness with my test kit it seems. But used expired strip 😬 now after putting 2k shock plus 454 lb bag shock. Into 23000 gallon semi inground pool. It's cloudy blue. Very coudly. Can't see the bottom. (been almost 24 hours.) cleaned again bottom. Vaccumed. Added 2 big bags of salt. (salt pool) think it's supposed to be 4. But Im not even sure if my zodiac works. So might have to add pucks. 🤷‍♀️ I can't give up after all this. Been on it for weeks. Since I started with debris with the wrong brush. 😭 Also so much products. Someone told me I should have just emptied the whole pool and started from scratch. 🙄 Maybe next year lol

Well if you have a vinyl lined pool I don’t ever recommend anybody draining it unless it’s a brand new liner because it can tear up on filling it up if it’s a Gunite pool you can dump the water and fill it back up as long as the water table is not high in your area. I mostly treat green pools because I live in a high water table area so if your pool doesn’t clear up within the next week you may want to use a flocculant those work really well but I only use it if it’s not clear enough on its own. Just make sure to clean the filter daily and run it around the clock without it shutting off make sure your salinity level is good and make sure it’s producing Corine I usually go with around 50% output. Sounds like you’re doing everything right keep up the good work it’s definitely a learning process and it seems like you have learned the majority of everything. 🙂

Usually if it says super chlorinate the button is set to super chlorinate if you have it where it says auto position put it there and if you have a dial or any type of output make sure it’s on 50%. If the pool starts going backwards you’re going to want to pour in liquid chlorine also remember if you’re going to add salt do you want to have the salt chlorine generator set to the off position until the next day Then put it back on auto.Yes I can imagine having a short swim season I have never been to Canada but I have spoken with people over the years! Glad to be of help if

Hello we have a 16x32 in ground pool and are having a hard time keeping it from getting cloudy. It was low on alkaline so my husband added what the pool store gave him to raise it. Everything else seems to be normal on the test strips , including alkaline levels now. We have been adding bags of shock and cleaning out our filter cartridge. We noticed green algae growing on the walls but even though we are vacuuming it and using the aqua bot the pool remains cloudy with algae present on the walls. Any ideas how to rectify this issue? Liquid bleach? I think I read that it works best instead of the powder. Oh yes my husband added a container of algacide too. Ugg nothing is helping and its hot in NY state.
@ClearlySeen
@ClearlySeen 4 жыл бұрын
I would recommend not overusing algaecide that could go against the effectiveness of the chlorine. Whenever you shock the pool and the algae remains after a day or two the first thing that comes to my mind is that more than likely you’re under shocking the pool. I would make sure that the pool is running around the clock without shutting off and I would recommend for that size pool three jugs of chlorine where I’m located there 2 1/2 gallons each so get equal to that and pour it in the pool after you do I would recommend brushing the pool to loosen up the live algae so it will die quicker. Then just make sure to clean your filter daily and keep the chemicals balanced. If the liquid chlorine does not kill it within a day or two you’re going to need to repeat the process.
@debbiesmith3633

You’re going to need to lower the total alkalinity in the pH wanna PH is at 8.2 and above the chlorine cannot do its job by sanitizing the pool. I would recommend getting some muratic acid To lower down the pH in total alkalinity to the correct levels. Try to get your PH in between 7.4and 7.6 and your total alkalinity around 90-100 and you should be good. But make sure there’s a good free chlorine level because anything less than 2 ppm you will run into issues with cloudiness so you may need to shock it with liquid chlorine.

If the sand is coming back to the pool from the filter then your going to need it repaired usually it’s a broken lateral or improperly installed. I would call the company back out. Question: the pool I'm maintaining has some remnants of algae but not excessive amounts. The main filter was cleaned recently, and during the cleaning, the internal filter baffles were replaced with new baffles. Prior to adding shock, the water is crystal clear even though there is a very small amount of algae. Once shock is added, the pool immediately starts to get extremely cloudy. A day later it's a bluish cloudiness. Gradually over the course of 3-4 days the water finally clears up. What's going on with the pool to cause crystal clear water to turn cloudy for days after adding shock?
@ClearlySeen
@ClearlySeen Жыл бұрын
A lot of the times it’s from calcium in the granular chlorine that’s if you’re using calcium hypochlorite if not it could be from the granular chlorine raising the pH so if you already had a higher pH and then you shock it if it goes high enough it will cost the pool to turn cloudy.

Always add clarifier when the pool is filtering or it will not be as effective. The clarifier is going to coat particulates in the pool then when it gets to the filter, the filter will actually grab the particles and trap them.

I would wait till your pool clears up before you try to adjust the pH. PH up if you use too much of it will cause the pool to get cloudy so you want to be careful with how much you use. I do not recommend using Floc Unless you just recently had a green pool and you’re trying to clear up the cloudiness only use clarifier unless it’s for that reason. What I’m going to recommend is to make sure your filter is clean and to run it for a couple of days without it shutting off cleaning the filter daily maintain the chlorine level it’s OK if it’s a little bit on the high side that’s better than it being low. And clarifier is always best to use when the pool is cloudy Just don’t overuse any specific chemical.

Yes that is a important step to make sure it’s on recirculate instead of filter. What I would suggest is backwashing your filter really good and going to the rinse cycle after backwashing. Typically we throw 2-3 bags of shock in, problem solved. Not this time. I've put up to 8 bags (37k gallon) and nothing. pH is 7.2 but I'm not registering any chlorine? We've got two floating chlorinators 4 tabs each. Two tabs in the skimmer, + 8 bags of shock I should see something? Any help? Also, we've never used pH down. Never had to, it's usually on the low side. Grand total is 37k gallons, Hayward ec65a D.E. filter newly rebuilt by yours truly (plates got cracked)

For your size pool I would recommend 5 gallons of liquid chlorine minimum. Usually whenever you shock the pool and it’s already cloudy if it does not turn around within a day or two means you under shocked it. That’s a good size pool I would definitely double or triple that amount because once it’s cloudy the next step is to be solid green. If you have a pool store in your area may sell liquid Chlorine get 5 gallons if not I would double or triple the amount of bags you put in.

Make sure you have some cynaric acid in the pool too, about 40ppm. without it, your chlorine will just disappear. I would recommend that you run your filter nonstop for a few days at the very least do you know what kind of cartridge filter that you have? Then I can recommend when you should clean it you can try clarifier that works well to help clear up the cloudiness. I would make sure that your chlorine level is good if you check it and it’s not good the cloudiness is not going to clear up unless it’s definitely killed.

How many gallons is your pool roughly? I recommend that you use liquid chlorine because that will not cloud up the pool and make it worse. Once I know how many gallons your pool is I can tell you how much to use. Make sure your pool is filtering and not shutting off during this process.

I would put three 2 1/2 gallon jugs of liquid chlorine or equal to that where I’m located they sell the 2 1/2 gallon jugs. I would make sure your filter is cleaned daily during the process and I would not recommend Using any more algicide because that’s a lot that you’ve already put in. You can use clarifier during daily to help clear it up quicker.

Hello. When it rains, should the pump be turned off?
@ClearlySeen
@ClearlySeen 3 жыл бұрын
Hey there and thanks for the question and the answer is no always run your pump 8-10 hours daily regardless of rain. The only time I would ever suggest turning the pump and power off would be if there was flooding if you knew the pool pump area was starting to flood you would want to turn the power off at the breaker.

You can check the ph in 12 hours. If your ph is super high I would add roughly a half of a gallon of it to your pool if it’s over 20,000 don’t ever add more the a 1/2 gallon a day though. Also before you add it clean your filter that sounds like calcium precipitation which can cause the filter to get clogged. Hope that helps

Whenever there is a issue with clarity make sure to only shock with liquid chlorine. Granular chlorine tends to make the pool more cloudy. I would check your stabilizer level to make sure that is no less then 40ppm and not to high like 70+. If the stabilizer is high your readings for the free chlorine will not be accurate and will need to be maintained higher then normal levels. If you haven’t backwashed the filter today I would recommend it. and until the pool is super clear do not turn the pump off. Another thing to think about is how old is the sand in the filter?

Depending how bad the clarity as you would use about half a bottle that will treat up to 40,000 gallons. What is the pool green and is it totally cloudy? If not you could use clarifier to help it out flocculent it’s going to be for really bad cloudiness conditions due to dead algae usually.

You can't "chemical bomb" your way out of a dirty pool.....if your water chemistry is off, it's gonna come RIGHT back!(your levels are gonna be Swinging All over).... So Test the water first, figure out what's wrong......make sure Pump is running 8 hours minimum.....Filter is clean and Free of Holes and Leaks, make sure Pool circulation is working correctly.....etc. Then figure out which chemicals are needed.

If your pool went from clear to cloudy and you have shocked it and it’s remaining cloudy, you need to use more shock and make sure to run the pool around the clock on filter. Most of the time people under shock the pool and usually that will cause it to get worse.
