The barrels were chrome lined in the 60s and 70s to protect from rust caused by humidity and tropical conditions of Vietnam. Same thing was done with the M16 rifles.

Very nice! I have a WW1 1911 in a Shadowbox. I never shoot it, of course! It's just a preserved, piece of history. Cool video!

I am surprised someone didn't rake you over the coals for dry firing. John Browning, in his infinite wisdom, specially designed the firing pin so the pistol can be dry fired thousands of times with no damage to the main parts. The firing pin spring is the only part that might suffer damage. When I was in the army, I saw 1991A1 and M1 rifles dry fired thousands of times with no damage.

If a gun is quality, it can be dry fired. 22s are the exception (some Ruger 22s can be dry fired) Thanks for watching!

11/172022 I received my CMP M1911a1 " Service grade " a 1943 Remington Rand frame and what I believed to be a NO NAME "GI rep" on the card slide. Thought I got a "mutt" BUT, BUT, BUT I FINALLY found out the GI slide (7990314) and barrel (.45 AUTO 7791193 85) were Colt manufactured National Match Hard Slide for a USAF contract.. certainly changed my opinion of the gun I received.

The last half of 1945 we saw the transition to serrated parts; trigger, hammer, thumb safety, slide stop and MSH. Mine was a frankengun with all commercial parts except the frame which was the only WWII thing about it. Had I known that I would have bought from their auction for a 1911 with more correct parts. So I dumped it for a Colt 1911A1 WWII reissue. Much happier now.

Now that's what I'm talking about. lol Very nice 1911 James, a great representation of an old classic that can still be shot. I haven't had a 1911 since my Army days many years ago but still remember the nomenclature and the breakdown. Very reliable too.

Nice one. Just FYI the heat treated part of the slide is the dark portion. Back then there was no way to heat-treat the entire slide without warping it, so the front end was heated then quenched in oil. In modern times new 1911s and replacement slides receive full heat treating.

nice! ide consider this a win! its in much more sought after config than some of the ithica or rem rands with the imi replacement slides that are in great cosmetic shape so despite them being a less desirable config. is their a serial number under the firing pin retainer plate? nice score here!

Man, this is a great video. I was called on 6/30 and the gun was at my FFL on 7/7. I haven’t seen it yet, but I hope I’m able to get one like this that has a somewhat original finish. I’ve seen some of the CMP 1911’s that have a super heavy parkerization. I wish I could have chosen a particular model. Or maybe one that was in Marine Corps service. But still happy I got one nonetheless.

If you don’t mind me asking, I’m just trying to get an estimate! When did you send your packet in? And when did you receive the email with the rgn number? I guess you got yours in round 2, no?
@wheel1775
@wheel1775 Жыл бұрын
@@theimpaler2317 I actually assumed they passed me over. I don’t remember exactly when I sent in my packet. But my best recollection is that it was at least 18 months from submission to call. Yes, I was round two. The 1911 I received was a 1943 Colt frame and Remington Rand slide. Most of the components were fairly new. But the slide and frame are pretty dinged up. Regardless, it was still worth it to be able to own a legitimate piece of history.

If I saw that bent lanyard ring stud, I wouldn’t be satisfied with the pistol. Everything else looks fine though. You should have called the CMP earlier about it, I bet they would make it right with you if you showed a picture of that when it arrived first thing. Thanks for sharing!

Tanks can do that to a 1911! 🤣. 🍺 M60A1 TC and OH-58 pilot qualified here. Carried the 1911 in tanks and a pretty worn out .38 SPCL in helicopters.

No idea. I got the gun in 2020. I sent in The packet once. Took almost 2 years I think. Maybe 1 and a half. I didn’t know they did a second round to be honest. I figured they had so many submissions the first go that it would back log them for years.

If it wasn't for you tube I would not have learned of the CMP lottery. Even so I learned after the second round had finished. I was maybe hoping to get in on the third round if there is one. My question is how did you get qualified? When I was young I had a USPSA membership (decades ago) and I let my Marine Corp League membership lapse too. According to what I read my VA id doesn't help. I looked at local shooting clubs and the only one in my vicinity that is not an ROTC is expensive. How do most people get qualified?
