The biggest quality test a knife has to pass for me to purchase is the inspection of the backspring alignment with the liners. This is because it is the easiest place to check the overall quality of the build. one it passes, I look at the way the scales, bolsters. and pins are flush with each other. THEN i check the blades and walk and talk. If at that point there aren't any issues then i am prolly going to be happy purchasing it. The problem i have with online purchases is they do not show the individual knife i am going to purchase, but rather a sample of what they want me to think i'm getting. and if i am viewing the individual item then the pictures are either not good quality or they avoid showing the detail necessary for me to feel comfortable purchasing.

I got a Case Peanut online in March that had significant blade rub and damage to the Delrin because some stoner on the production line felt the need to force one of the brass pins. And then another stoner let it pass QC. I get it, every company makes mistakes. What really bothers me is Case's warranty process. Apparently you used to be able to just mail a defective/damaged knife to Case with a work order form in the package. But now they've decided to add an extra step to the process by making you fill out a request on their website and then waiting for them just to reply to you BEFORE you can even send it in! It says to give them 2 weeks to get back to you. Basically now you have some hens in their customer service department deciding whether Case's screw-ups are worth their company's time to fix or not. And you can bet those hens will take their sweet time in doing so. Keep in mind this new step adds two weeks on top of the transit time to and from the factory PLUS the actual repair time! After waiting 3 weeks with no reply from Case, I ended up returning the defective knife to the seller and rolling the dice by buying another of the same model/steel/handle from Atlantic Knife. Fortunately, this one works. Idk, does this new gatekeeping step of the warranty/repair process also bother you? I like Case's knives, but it lowers my faith in them to fix one of my knives should anything happen. It also smacks of poor customer service, like Case is in no hurry to right their wrongs

RoseCraft knives are addictive love them! I just hope they can stay in the same price range and the same quality if they start making them here.

I've been collecting Case knives for about 50 years . Russlocks and small toothpicks are my main patterns that I collect . I have yet to find any flaws in quality . My favorite EDC is my green pocket worn Russlock with a pocket clip . I wish Case would make more of their knives with pocket clips . The Russlocks tend to wear holes in my pockets and that is why I prefer pocket clips . I only have one with the pocket clip , and would like to buy more . It seems Case only makes limited quantities with the clip . And when they are available , they sell out quickly . As far as quality , I find that weather older or newer , the quality remains the same ( at least up to 2020 ) . I also own a single blade assisted opening trapper with a pocket clip , but that's another story .

Firearms used to be really beautiful back in the day. I understand that modern pistols are more practical and all that, but in terms of looks they nothing on the old ones.

Case needs to slow down and focus on quality, even if prices have to increase. Tony Bose had them on the right track for a while but they fell off again.

Ok, so I have collected Case knives for 20+ years. I had over 100 in my collection. I didn’t like it but I was used to the $hitty quality, the gaps, the lame walk and talk. And then I bought my first Great Eastern Cutlery Knife. I sold 100 Case knives just to buy 25 Great Eastern. Great Eastern knives are without a doubt the finest production knives on the market. I still have a few Case but they are all pre 1980.

Man, I’m 60 years old. I’ve owned top of the line Shrade Old Timers, old Case folders, old Camillus knives, passed down from my father that were made in the 50’s and 60’s. Back when every knife we knew was made in America. High-carbon steel that required care to prevent rusting. Nothing you could do about the natural patina that formed over the years, but all great steel was that way. The Old Timers were sharpened at 10 to 15 degrees and absolutely razor sharp. One slip and you were cut. Nothing like this stainless alloy, “super steels” sharpened at this 20 degrees nonsense. The big seller is, “Hey, it doesn’t rust, it’s not like you’re going to use it anyway, and it’s made in China. Doesn’t get scary sharp and it’s cheap. We have thousands of them, get yours now!” And I remember when real good knives turned into okay knives, then total crap knives. It was when our old carbon steel was too expensive and brittle for the amateurs and nobody really used knives for important things like camping and carving a bear out of a pine burl. They’re all indoors playing video games and don’t even own a bicycle for Christ’s sake, and so of course knives became a novelty item instead of a necessary tool. But all we had is back spring folders and they were meticulously precision made with of course no gaps between the spacers and springs. Kinda sad how Case and Shrade as well, sold out and just got lazy. Lousy stainless blade steel, shoddy workmanship, and just no care. The reason is, the market for old classic remakes is dying off. Old collectors aren’t going to collect crappy copies and new collectors want to collect new knives. I have some very old classics that can’t be replaced. I also have some very new flippers and frame locks that are way more practical than any two-handed opening pocket knife. And it’s only more practical because I’m not competing with my cousin in carving the better bear. I use my new fancy knives to open envelopes and packages. Cut string sometimes. You don’t need a real knife for that. Love your channel. Just subscribed. Sorry for the rant from a grouchy old knife guy.

I have a NOS Schrade Old Timer Mighty Mite that I got off ebay last October. Apparently made in 2002 before the Chinese got their sneaky little hands on Schrade production. I was nervous about maintaining carbon steel, but let me tell you: after forcing a patina on the blade with a weak vinegar solution and giving it a swipe every couple weeks with a silicone gun cleaning cloth, those fears are no more. It's very sharp and the small size makes it one of the most comfortable knives I've ever carried. Love everything about it

I collect slip joints, mostly rough Ryder and vintage American. Only have a few case, and they’re nice cuz they’re old. Gapping never bothered me much, but for the price, it’s gotta be near perfect. Having said that, the gaps on your Russ lock are terrible. I won’t buy a new case unless it’s in person which is rare. The blade wobble is my pet peeve, especially the amount your girls has. I mostly stay away from case cuz they’re too collectible and that makes them more expensive. The vintage shrade, Kabar, Queen, etc, to me, are just as nice if not nicer than most case knives they make nowadays. GEC are way too hard to get, love B Howard’s stuff from Queen, but I’m not playing the games ppl play trying to get a GEC. This video is a few years old, so I think that GEC that you got for $80, is probably over $200 now. lol

I agree. I have a bunch of Stockmans. I have a 6344, middle stockman, and 6375, large stockman,Case. I do not go for acrylic knives. I like bone. I also like the 6254 large Trapper. It is almost identical to my large stockman. My large stockman fits in the bottom of my pocket in my jeans. I have found little knives bite you faster than large knives and I hate to be bit. My next Case is going to be the 64061, two blade Jack knife with burl maple sides.
