I use to work in the Steel Mills for over 15yrs. I ran Overhead Cranes and Locomotives(Trains) daily. I always loved trains growing up. My parents kept me with a new complete set. Train, cars, and when i gotten older. They started letting me build little towns with people and all. I mean I was a fanatic. But let me tell you. Growing up and actually operating one. WOOOOO! Its a way different experience on a whole nother level. The force, the power, the actual sounds in your ears. Its incredibly unbelievable. We were only required to wear earplugs. I wore ear plugs and sound muffs. THAT THING IS LOOUUD!!!! And the rumble is enormous!!!! So please stay away from the tracks if you hear it coming. Even if you don't see it. Because its closer than you think. And its moving faster than it looks.

The most delightful way to travel long distances in the US. I sleep like a baby, the food is superb on every line I've had the pleasure to travel, and the people who work them have been [mostly] gracious and helpful. And you don't have to take off your shoes and stand in interminable lines with irritable handlers and fellow fliers, subject to unpredictable delays, to be packed into flying tubes with unpleasant air. Trains usually still manage to travel when flights are grounded by bad weather. Many times I have shared trips from Chicago to NYC with frustrated fliers who were lucky enough to get a seat on Amtrak. Fascinating lives cross in those dining cars and lounges.

@@fastdonkey9903 It's real big on KZfaq. Trains all over the world. Some have cams where you're the engineer, some cams are mounted outside of the train. It's interesting to view landscapes all over the world by train in a few hours and you're in control of your destination. Railfanning typically has a chat feature, don't let the regulars bully you. For some reason they aren't fond of newbies, they get mad if people ask questions. So trifling in my opinion, it's the only community that doesn't enjoy talking about and educating others about their hobby.

As a small child, trains on the nearby railroad at night, maybe 300 yards away comforted me since I felt that loud sounds had a way of driving evil spirits away! Primal feeling that has existed for thousands of years with many people.

Yes. Years ago on the Lakeshore Limited Amtrak bound for Chicago, our train came to a stop in Bryant Ohio. It was a beautiful clear day, and we sat there for four hours. I later learned that some man with his wife and two children had driven between the flashing lights on the arms of the crossing. The fire departments had to peel their car off the front of the train. I suspect that he thought he could beat a slow-moving, long freight train. He was wrong. Those Amtrak trains aren't so long, and they can fly.

To my mind, as an old new englander, those 2 or 3 cars that decided not to stop had to make an instantaneous rapid decision whether to try to brake on such icy, slushy road surface or to use momentum and proceed. Qu comes how did a driver happen to be sitting at the ready with a camera?--not random luck, I'd say, but familiarity with the situation . . .

Сказал, больно. Продолжал жить. Через недели две, начались проблемы с головой . Сделали рентген. У него было разрушение седловины. Умер. Прошёл ВОВ. Одно ранение было. Ни одного больного зуба не было. СУДЬБА.
