"The JouRNey" Series is a series where I am documenting my experience as a mom going to college, pursuing a degree in Nursing, AND working as a certified nurse assistant to pay for school and avoid getting into student loan debt. In today's episode (Ep2) I share 10 steps I had to do to prep for the CNA training program, which will give you an idea of what to expect if you're interested in becoming a CNA. I hope you found this video helpful!
Keep trying and keep thriving,
Mymy

I graduated 1967 from Kapiolani Community College. I retired CNA with state 30yrs service. Your program is invaluable. God blessings to you and your program of vital. I also enrolled in LPN program but found it too hard. Thank God for atleast I was a CNA. I took a practical nursing course through correspondence all I got was a fabulous diploma and cracker Jake like pin. Have a great day.

I'm going to be starting phlebotomy then I'm going to go become a medical lab tech and then CNA and then RN the event that moved me to want to go into the medical field was the fact that I just recently got out of the hospital back in September I lost my appendix I was admitted August 28, 2023 I spent the whole month of September in the ICU and the spent my 28th birthday in the PICU then I was transferred to the adult unit for 3 days then the night charge nurse came to me and said I have good news for your your going back to the PICU and that's where I spent the remainder of my time in the PICU. I enjoyed watching the nurses do what they did to me. I honestly never thought that I would go into the medical field but this last hospital stay that's what moved me to want to start out in phlebotomy.

Wow, this video was EXCELLENT! I am mostly interested in being a PCT and wondered if it would be smarter to become a CNA first. What are your thoughts??? Loved your idea about placing tabs on your textbooks, GENIOUS! I'm not good with math. Would you be able to give me an idea of the kind of math problems I would be dealing with? I just need an example. Thanks so much! I'm so scared of failing and I'm older. Right now I'm a teacher's aid and the transition is overwhelming. I've been watching videos for the past few years just to become familiar. Thanks so much for the video! I have my CPR card, so I guess that's one less thing to worry about. Also, you are beautiful and a great speaker. THANK YOU!!! Mima
@MymyTran
@MymyTran 2 жыл бұрын
Aw thank you for watching! Your support means a lot! It’s ultimately up to you whether you want to become CNA first. If PCT is your end goal, I’d say becoming CNA is not necessary. However, if you want to become a nurse but work as CNA then I’d say get your CNA license. In my opinion, having a CNA license/certificate will look good on resumes because it shows your qualifications when applying for jobs, especially in hospitals. Also it will help a lot when applying for a nursing program. Most nursing programs and their application process are a point based system and they will give you two points for having a CNA license and work experience in healthcare field. I hope this helps! Good luck with everything! ☺️

if you are working in a basic check-up part of the hospital is it possible for them to transfer you o a different department at any time? growing up my doctor's nurses or CNAs were always being moved to a different department or hospital I don't know if it was by choice or because they had to. Also, do you pick where you start off to work? or are you assigned the experience the school picks for you? I am thinking of going to school to be a Cna or pharmaceutical technician there are lots of perks and cons to them which every job has, would love to also have advice on tips to keep your composure during a stressful situation with a patient. I do have worries I won't be strong enough to keep myself in line without breaking down.

@MymyTran

It is a lot of information but I believe in you!! My advice is to take it one chapter at a time and review your notes daily! Repetition is key!!! I also found that everything I learned in my classes such as clinical, lab and lecture all related to each other. So, that helped a lot with remembering and applying everything I learned. Lastly, classes such as anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, biology and/or microbiology are not prerequisites for the CNA program, BUT it’s very helpful if you have to have taken any of those classes. Medical terminology is its own language in itself. 😄 I hope this helped! Again, you got this! Good luck with everything!!! 💕
