Just a quick functioning mock of a fully automated workpiece Z probe system using as simple (reliable) and cheap (easily replaced) an approach as possible. Laser is haphazardly strapped onto dust boot for now as all this will get redesigned into a purposeful, cohesive mounting system with air assist for the laser.
Tool offsets (in all 3 axes) are used so that it works for the laser, spindle tools, and the probe itself. This way the probe and tools also position as expected when commanding it a location on the table.
Based on a microswitch so it can be used on any material with consistent results. With a decent switch and proper debounce/filter its easy to get 0.001" accuracy levels.
